• 6.10.0-RC2 - Reduced read speeds, but normal writes

    • Minor

When running the current prerelease 6.10.0-RC2, I noticed my reads are limited to about 750Mb/s, regardless if from the array or ssd cache. While the writes are normal and maxing out my 1 Gb/s network.

I can reliably reproduce the issue, returning to the stable release the reads return to 1Gb/s, switching back to the prerelease back to the limited speed. Attached my diagnostics.

My set up has a 10G connection and reading a file (16 GB) from the array goes at maximum speed of 240-250 MB/s (1.9 - 2.0 Gb/s), which is about the highest speed the HDD can do. It certainly is possible to get high speeds in 6.10

Your log shows several retransmissions due to connection failure. I don't know if this is RealTek related.

You should try rc3 when it comes out, it has updated network drivers.

There are no strange things in your log.

A couple of things you can try

    1. Disable bonding - you have a single interface and bonding is not applicable/needed

    2. Install the "Tips and Tweaks" plugin and disable the rx/tx flow control

    3. Change your RealTek NIC for an Intel NIC

Disabling bonding seems to have done the trick. Thank you. Seems like the newer drivers don't play that nicely with the default settings.
