• Dual Port NIC - One port plugged in, both ping

    Marshalleq

I've only just plugged this card back in, though I am now on a different computer.  My setup is displaying peculiar behaviour as follows:

Onboard NIC Eth0: Cable plugged in - ping works

Dual Port NIC Eth1: Cable plugged in - ping works

Dual Port NIC Eth2: Cable unplugged - ping works

If I swap the port the cable is in:

Onboard NIC Eth0: Cable Plugged in - ping works

Dual Port NIC Eth1: Cable unplugged in - no rely from ping

Dual Port NIC Eth2: Cable plugged in - no reply from ping

Anyone have any bright ideas why an unplugged port responds to a ping?  I don't think this is a hardware issue - seems more like a driver issue?

I assume having the onboard ethernet mixed in this IOMMU Group would only matter if I wanted to pass it through to something, that this wouldn't be causing the interface to go up and down as it has been.

    Many thanks for any advice.

According to the main intel NIC driver download page linked below, a dual port NIC should not have the e1000e driver, it should have the e1000 driver.  If I'm reading correctly and I think I am.

Therefore my dual port NIC is getting the wrong driver from Unraid.  This might explain why I'm getting weird issues with this NIC on Unraid - I've just had both ports show up with the same Mac address a moment ago too - even though it lists them as different below that.

    Diagnostics required.

I recommend you open a topic under General Support and explain what you try to achieve with your set up.

People can give you help and recommendations there first before opening bug reports here.
