  • Unraid OS version 6.9.0-beta1 available

    limetech

Welcome to 6.9 beta release development!

This initial -beta1 release is exactly the same code set of 6.8.3 except that the Linux kernel has been updated to 5.5.8 (latest stable as of this date).  We have only done basic testing on this release; normally we would not release 'beta' code but some users require the hardware support offered by the latest kernel along with security updates added into 6.8.

Important: Beta code is not fully tested and not feature-complete.  We recommend running on test servers only!

Unfortunately none of our out-of-tree drivers will build with this kernel.  Some were reverted back to in-tree version, some were omitted.  We anticipate that by the time 6.9 enters 'rc' phase, we'll be on the 5.6 kernel and hopefully some of these out-of-tree drivers will be restored.

We will be phasing in some new features, improvements, and changes to address certain bugs over the coming weeks - these will all be -beta releases.  Don't be surprised if you see a jump in the beta number, some releases will be private.

    Version 6.9.0-beta1 2020-03-06

    Linux kernel:

    • version 5.5.8
    • igb: in-tree
    • ixgbe: in-tree
    • r8125: in-tree
    • r750: (removed)
    • rr3740a: (removed)
    • tn40xx: (removed)

Ran into a very quick almost show stopper (but will be an actual show stopper for many users)

Unassigned Devices is listed as being incompatible with this.  Since this release is identical to 6.8.3 except for the kernel, UD has to have it's maximum OS value changed. @dlandon

For my work flow it's not an explicit show stopper as I can manually mount the SMB shares, its a bit of a PITA right now.

Have to downgrade until there's no one wanting to use the server.

EDIT:  Just edited the .plg on the flash instead

In 6.8.0-rc7 ( first 5.x kernel ? ) have md/unraid driver Introduced "multi-stream" support. But this seems not available after that ver.

Does this support again or only available in 5.x kernel ?

@Squid Why has UD been blackisted by CA in 6.9?

Edit: I see it.  Looks like CA hasn't caught up with my plugin update.

The md/unraid 'multi-stream' changes were included in 6.8 and thus also present in 6.9.

installed over 683, so far looking ok for unraid.

my main win10 VM aint booting anymore (blue screen, diagnostic, start issues ...) but i guess its just bad luck cause the 2nd win10 vm boot just fine ... so i guess its not 69 beta related ;) also the ubuntu mashine spins up fine.

so i look to check if i can repair the win10 vm somehow

May I sugguest to use 5.6 kernel (even RC one) for 6.9 beta/RC;  5.6 really includes a lot of new features, (wireguard for example), it is better to test it eariler

Updated from 6.8.2 -- Took 3:27 to get the gui back

No issues as of yet... My temp sensors are showing up now for my ryzen 3900x

I updated my UD plugin before my upgrade and no issues

+1 for @Jerky_san! I am using a ASUS x570 Strix E and would love that. Given how many peeps run ASUS consumer/gaming stuff I think an addition of this would be well worth it!

I’m running Asus X470 Crosshair VII so I’d love to have WMI working as well!

Tested inside a VM running within UnRAID. Everything looks as expected, nothing exciting to report. That's a good thing 😄

https://github.com/electrified/asus-wmi-sensors <- this would be nice to for 6.9 for ASUS peoples. It directly reads the WMI interface that ASUS has moved to and displays all sensors properly.(Supposedly)

If you use asos x570 board it might work if you add this line to syslinux configurator on the flash drive. acpi_enforce_resources=lax

Earlier I only got the k10temps but now I get voltages, fan speed and other temps on my asus prime x570-p pro.

6.9beta1 works great for me so far.
