Stopped the VM and removed all the modifications from syslinux config but now I get

internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2019-12-11T18:50:02.481030Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device vfio-pci,host=0000:09:00.0,id=hostdev0,bus=pci.1,addr=0x0: vfio 0000:09:00.0: failed to setup container for group 9: Failed to set iommu for container: Operation not permitted

I used the mods to get Pfsense running and it worked before the upgrade but not since.

Your description says you have an issue with VNC, it is unclear to me why you made modifications to syslinux.

It seems you have now a mismatch between XML settings and hardware passthru. Easiest would be to restore your syslinux as before.

By opening and saving the VM editor, you force the re-assignment VNC ports. I expect this to solve your VNC issue(s).
