unRaid not resuming fiber direct connection when link is available

  • Closed

I'm not even sure this is a bug but I'm having a problem in resuming a direct fiber connection between unRaid (both 7.0.1 and 7.1.0-rc1) and a Win11 PC.

I'm using 2 Dell x710-DA2 NIC with SFP+ adapter, one in the unRaid setup and the other one in my local Win11 PC. NIC are both using latest firmware available on Dell support website. On unRaid the NIC is set as eht0 (DAC connected to a 2.5Gb switch) and eht1 (SFP+ direct fiber connected to the PC on a different subnet). After a few hours that the PC has been shut off unRaid drops eth1:

syslog: Apr 19 00:44:24 XXXX kernel: i40e 0000:01:00.1 eth1: NIC Link is Down Apr 19 00:44:26 XXXX ntpd[1754]: Deleting 1 eth1, [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]:123, stats: received=0, sent=0, dropped=0, active_time=22051 secs

but is does not resume it when I switch back on the Win11 PC.

I tried many network commands (see the entire discussion):

but the only 2 actions that work to wake up eth1 is either a reboot or unplugging/plugging back the SFP+ on the unRaid side.

Could it be a driver issue?
