  1. Catalina Mojave and HighSierra - new video 28 october 2019 MOJAVE 10.14 . (Update 24 October 2018) _______________________________________________________________________________________ OLDER VIDEOS ABOUT MacOS VMs _______________________________________________________________________________________ High Sierra 10.13 (Update 24 September 2017) So now High Sierra is here its time for a new video. Things are a lot better for OSX VMs now. Since qemu 2.9 we don't need to use a patched clover. We can pass through the CPU frequency to the guest from the XML. This video although for High Sierra will also work for Sierra HOW TO INSTALL HIGH SIERRA OR SIERRA ON UNRAID CREATING INSTALL MEDIA (Update 24 September 2017) Video guide here >>>>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFPiK1Ggbks INCREASING PERFORMANCE IN AN OSX VM . (march 2018) Advanced techniques for hardware passthrough etc. (Update March 2017) This video is about advanced OSX VM techniques in KVM with unRAID. You will see how to pass through physical devices to a KVM osx sierra VM such as GPU, sound and USB. You will learn to what hardware that you can use and how to edit the XML template to add the hardware. You will learn how to use a Nvidia GPU in Sierra by installing the Nvidia web drivers. You will see how to get your HDMI sound working using an HDMI audio kext. I will quickly run through using virt-manager to avoid manual edits then discuss common osx VM problems. Note if using High Sierra as of 24 September 2017 Nvidia have not released web drivers for this OS so we cant have them working in 10.13 (but soon we should) Advanced OSX VM techniques in unRAID. Get everything working!

  2. Has anyone been successful in getting Open Manage Server Administrator running on unRaid? Edit - I was able to get this running. I pulled the kamermans/docker-openmanage image from the docker hub and installed it in host mode with shell. Mapped ports 1311, 161, 162 This image uses a systemctl replacement, but the script to do it wasnt running properly by itself. I changed journald to run in volatile mode and then ran the entrypoint.sh located in the root. After that I was able to browse to https://host:1311 and run OMSA operations.

  3. 2 servers would probably be quicker. If the second server is easy to set up, that's what I would do, for several reasons.

  4. Read the thread backwards. Unfortunately, the advent of hard drives that have humongous storage capacity has virtually wiped out the demand for cases with provision for large numbers of hard drives EXCEPT for server applications. You could look at the rack mount cases but they don't tend to fit into the normal home decor and, if you actually use a rack, the install becomes expensive!

  5. Hi @shydunraid- We are discussing this internally and will get back to you. Thanks

  6. Yes you could use the 14TB separately by mounting it outside of the array with Unassigned Devices plugin, and then you can access it via SMB just like normal.. but just know that you would never be able to add it to the actual parity protected array because it would be larger than your parity drive. So if you wanted to do that then you could do something like this in Unraid: cache: 1x 512GB SSD - the other SSD could then be used as a parity protected fast disk in the array where you run VMs off of, or whatever.. limiting writing to the disk to only specific things. or cache pool: 2x 512GB SSD (basically a RAID for the cache drive itself, better option for protection of the cache drive) parity: 1x 4TB array disk 1-3: 3x 4TB unassigned devices outside of parity: 1x 14TB

  9. ok, I imagine you are thinking that developing that SAS support has a cost. Let's try to help. I'll buy 1 PRO license if you support it. Thanks, Ruben

  13. That suggests there could be a real problem with the NVMe device, try the copy again, if you get the same errors probably not much more you can do, you can try reformatting the device but any more similar errors probably best to replace it.

  14. That's a brilliant idea, didn't even think of that! I tried, but it's throwing this: `It is not possible to use a Trial key with an existing Unraid OS installation.` So, can't do that.

  18. With those drives you would need to make the Slot 6 drive your parity drive, if you wanted parity. Parity always has to be at least as large as your largest drive in the array, so you could not use a 4GB drive as parity for a 14GB drive... make sense? You'd also have to add the drives to the array one by one or something like that if they have data on them already. You'd need to move all the data off a drive before you can add it to Unraid. That's the most tedious process of all. For example, if that 14TB drive were empty, you could move all the data from the 2 SSD's and 2 of the 4TB drives onto the 14TB drive, then add those SSDs and empty drives to Unraid, then move the data from the 14TB drive onto the array, and then move the next set of 4TB drives onto the 14TB drive, add those and repeat until eventually you got all your data onto the array and all the drives added. It's a process for sure.. Other than that you'd be good to go. As far as the benefits of Unraid.. for that you'd have to do your own research and comparison to what you use now. Unraid is very cool, I like it. That's all I can tell you...

  21. Thanks for the mock up. I have been working on something like that while I have time on the side. It goes into more details like yours but includes photos. I also want to expand gaps beyond traditional collections and add support for finding all movies by an actor or director. Attached are a couple of mock ups I've done so far. Let me know what you think.

  22. Good news, i split up my cache and changed the filesystem to xfs, now downloading for 15~minutes @ 50megabytes/second and my cpu is sitting at around 40% with periodical 100% spikes on any of the cores, which is pretty normal usage. @SundarNET do you reckon the btrfs cache pool was your issue as well? perhaps your appdata folder is stored on the cache pool? edit: i've actually noticed that all of my dockers are more responsive now, definitely seems to be an issue with btrfs cache pool...

  25. I recently built a new system using a used Antec Twelve Hundred I got on ebay. This case is in near perfect condition and the auction for it went up to around $450. I suspect a fellow unraid user had similar plans with it as I did. I decided to go with 3 x 2 hotswap bays for a total of 18 slots rather than the 4 in 3 or 5 x 3 caddies. Better air flow, but only 18 slots instead of 20. Close enough! The main reason is so I wouldn't have to modify the slots on the inside of the case to accommodate the flat sides of the 5 x 3 caddies. I'm attaching an image. 152TB usable storage now with room to expand. 4 empty slots, 10 x 12tb drives, 4 x 16tb drives (2 are parity).
