  1. Only add drives to the array as you need the capacity. Don't populate all 18 data drives, only put in what's needed to hold your current data load plus 1. So, if you have 50TB you are going to load, only put in 8 data drives, for a usable total of 64TB leaving 14TB free. When you get down to 8TB free, add another 8TB. Leave the rest on the shelf if you already bought them, or better yet leave them on the store shelf. ALWAYS keep one physical drive slot empty, if that means sizing up replacement drives, then do it. The number of times I've seen on this forum where it's been useful to have an empty slot for troubleshooting or recovery purposes is countless. One of Unraid's great strengths is the ability to add drives as needed instead of trying to plan far into the future. Fewer drive slots in use equals fewer failure points, less power and heat, ability to pivot to newer technologies as they emerge, both hardware and software. When you land on a format and encryption decision, you can change your mind as you add new drives, if the tech or your needs shift. Each new drive can use a different format and still participate in the array as a whole, either in the parity array(s)*(7.X?) or cache pool(s)*(6.9.X). You can use new drives as you add them to move data from older obsolete formats and strategy, keeping the ability to refresh your array as things progress. You asked about what formats and such, but I'm giving you the answer to solve the long question, because information that is current will be old news soon enough. Good news is that Unraid has the long term solution, whatever that happens to be. That's how I personally would set up a new build.

4. مرحبا The Arabic language pack is now available for Unraid in Community Applications. To install, please go to the Apps tab and search for Arabic, or click on the "Language" section on the lefthand navigation bar and you will find Arabic available! Big thanks to @albakhit, @Zyzto and the rest of the Arabic team for all of the hard work! 🙂

  5. There is Help in the webUI. Clicking the Help (?) icon on the main menu bar will toggle help on/off for the entire webUI. Clicking on the label for a specific setting will toggle help for just that setting.

  6. I may be jumping in over my head here but I seem to recall that most home routers don't require 'turning off' dns rebinding so it is not an issue for most folks. The problem rears its head when a user is using a more secure router setup than the normal consumer router provides. (You can see the list of the identified ones by going to Settings >>> Management Access and turning on the 'Help' feature.) If you feel this would be a desirable addition, why don't you undertake to provide this documentation. After you have written and thoroughly checked it out for accuracy, post it in this thread: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/46803-faq-feedback-for-faq-for-unraid-v6/

  7. I switched from AFP to SMB in preparation for 6.9. In my environment (High Sierra, Mojave and Calatina) with regular shares and Time Machine, SMB is reliable but with consistently worse performance, and yes I've made the recommended client tweaks. It's Apple's fault for dropping AFP without improving SMB, can't blame Unraid.

  9. @mani3321splitted your question here, since it's not the same, turbo write only helps with write speed, not reads, please start by running a single stream iperf test.

  10. It depends on what actual hardware you have, if both side have expander blackplane, spare port, you may simple conect blackplane to blackpkane ... ( also need consider the bandwidth ) Yes, pull power from mainbiard. I assume there are some power wire which direct connect to R510 blackpkane to the PSU. Pls provide more info. and photo.

  11. Depends on the blackplane, you may - Connect in SAS, expander to expander - SATA if cable can shorter then 1m - Remove the blackplane and direct connect to HDD. Of course, unplug the power for mainboard, make PSU always on or remote power on.

  15. Quick update. Got the replacement PDU yesterday and it works perfectly! Starting to preclear my nvme and parity drives!

  16. Of course it will not work to update to 19.1 if you download version 10.0.0. Latest should give you latest. It does not download version 10.0.0 here. If you are using a subfolder for the reverse proxy, the webui usually doesn't work.

  17. i changed since v18 to this manual update in nextcloud shell sudo -u abc php /config/www/nextcloud/updater/updater.phar and since then no more issues at all, at the beginning webui update worked always, then from some version up it stuck on backup old, the manual update procedure from post 1 link also works, but this is simple and working.

  18. I was messing with adding in a new drive I will be using for parity and it had write cache disabled, I decided to try a fix I found after finishing the last drives by using a more advanced smartctl command and what do you know, it worked! Much easier then using windows, don't even have to reboot. smartctl -s wcache-sct,on,p /dev/sdX I edited the OP with this command.

  19. I looked through this forum topic, github, and the discourse site, so I apologize if this has been answered in the past. How would I go about doing an auto backup of the database? I was to try and schedule this to happen regularly.

  21. Hello @binhex and others, I have been successfully using Sonarr+Radarr+Deluge for a while now, but for a variety of reasons I recently tried to switch from Deluge to qBittorrent. I have qBittorrent installed and can access it, download, etc successfully. However when I try to add as a Download Client in Sonarr or Radarr (or presumably Lidarr) I get the error "Unknown exception: Failed to connect to qBittorrent, check your settings." This is no doubt an issue with my configuration of qBittorrent because Deluge worked without issue previously, but I cannot figure this out. Could someone provide guidance? Thank you!

  22. So I'd just like to point out for anyone else starting from scratch this is the way to fix it. I had self resolved but couldn't update as I was post limited! But thanks for the help! Is there any command/method to see current sync status?

  23. The entire /mnt/user is a FUSE filesystem called shfs - which is what Unraid uses to merge all the disks together into a single virtual filesystem. Dropbox is being anal by just checking the fs in use and rejecting "unsupported" ones out of hand. Also if Dropbox wasn't being anal, storing your Dropbox files on the array would cause issues unless use cache disk is turned off, else watch Dropbox delete your files when the mover kicks in. The workaround for this is to locate the Dropbox files on a specific disk ie /mnt/disk1/Dropbox or /mnt/cache/Dropbox (like I do). Another workaround, if you must store it on the array, is to create a loopback disk image on the array and format it ext4, then mount it ie /mnt/disks/Dropbox then point Dropbox there.

  24. for people who booted up fine the first time around, decided to give more cores or ram and went back to find the apple logo upper left and weird graphical anomalies try restoring the <os> section of the xml with what was originally there when you first installed. You're welcome. <os> <type arch='x86_64' machine='pc-q35-3.1'>hvm</type> <loader readonly='yes' type='pflash'>/mnt/user/domains/MacinaboxCatalina/ovmf/OVMF_CODE.fd</loader> <nvram>/mnt/user/domains/MacinaboxCatalina/ovmf/OVMF_VARS.fd</nvram> </os>

  25. After a ton of troubleshooting, yes. Unfortunately, Cloudflare official documentation is at least 16 months outdated. Also, the official README for the ddclient Docker container says to look at Cloudflare documentation. Anyway, here's the ddclient.conf that FINALLY worked for me! This works with the latest linuxserver/ddclient as of August 19th, 2019. Pay close attention when commas are used and when they are not. ## ## CloudFlare (www.cloudflare.com) ## use=web protocol=cloudflare, \ zone=mydomain.com, \ ttl=10, \ [email protected], \ password=CLOUDFLARE-GLOBAL-API-KEY \ sub1.mydomain.com,sub2.mydomain.com

  26. I managed to fix this eventually in the following way: Mounted Let'sEncypt config files to inside the Plex docker config in the following manner: /letsencrypt = /mnt/user/data/letsencrypt/ Plex settings in browser > Network > Custom certificate location = /letsencrypt/keys/letsencrypt/privkey.pfx Custom certificate encryption key = /letsencrypt/keys/letsencrypt/privkey.pem Custom certificate domain = plex.XXXXXX.com Custom server access URLs = https://plex.XXXXXX.com:443 In the file in /mnt/appdata/letsencrypt/nginx/proxy-confs/plex.domain.conf > change the line "proxy_pass https://$upstream_plex:32400" to proxy_pass https://UnRaidServerIP:32400 Optional - 301 redirect so that it forces https - Go to /mnt/appdata/letsencrypt/nginx/site-confs/default > remove the "#" signs next to the code: server { listen 80; server_name _; return 301 https://$host$request_uri; } Optional - Plex UI in browser > Network > Secure connections = Required. Hope this helps someone out there.

  27. Open device manager You will see your unknown devices. Right click the unknown device and select "update driver". Select "Browse my computer for the driver software" Click browse Select the CDROM Drive virtio-win-x.x Then click next. Windows will scan the entire device for the location of the best-suited driver. It should find a RedHat network adapter driver, follow the prompts and you're in business. ** I never bothered to locate the actual subfolder of the driver on the virtio-win-1-1 image, I just let windows do it for me. ** Hope this helps.
