  1. can the stable ver 6.8.3 get the latest nvidia drivers? PLEX betas (and likely next stable) now require 450.66 or later drivers to keep nvenc operational -- hw transcoding is broken on latest versions because of this. i prefer to not run betas, so essentially i am stuck on a previous working plex version (1.20.1.3252-1-01) https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/j0bzu1/it_was_working_before_but_now_im_having_issues/ https://forums.plex.tv/t/help-fixing-my-broken-nvidia-nvenc-driver-config-ubuntu-20-04/637854 https://forums.plex.tv/t/nvenc-hardware-encoding-broken-on-1-20-2-3370/637925

  2. No change required. (Assuming that you have a cache pool named "cache", which is the default)

  3. It would be easy enough to write a plugin that detected if overheating of drives is happening. Whether that should just send a notification or force an automated shutdown is an interesting philosophical point. I guess it could be configurable. I could easily enhance the parity tuning plugin to send a notification on drives overheating even if no parity check is running. Not sure if this would be the right way to handle this - a separate plugin seems a better solution. I might look into putting together such a plugin if sufficient interest is shown as I should already have all the bits required to assemble it. Time to start thinking of a good name for such a plugin

  10. I would have thought that you could have just made another win10 instance, but I guess not. You could try to create it again but just change the UUID in the raw xml before saving. And yes, you would manually tell it to point the disk image to the vdisk location. You have a gpu with a bios file so be sure to set that up the same. It might be easier to take some screenshots of your configuration so that you can refer to it as you make the new one. Finally, you have 20 of your 24 cores assigned to the VM. Is that really necessary? Sometimes less is more. Remember that unraid needs cpu cycles to emulate the base hardware for the VM and to take care of other tasks. If you are worried about performance then you could try passing fewer cores but isolate them so only the VM has access to them and thus won't have to swap processes on that core. EDIT: and I personally use whatever the default USB emulation method it provides

  13. This should definitely be updated, all p20 releases except 20.00.07.00 have known issues.

  14. Not really. If you're verifying whether or not to install a container or not, then it's no biggie since they're all basically sandboxed from the server itself. And I would think that most people aren't actually running test servers, even when utilizing the beta software.

  16. Looks like your LSI card is resetting - may need to check cooling/ reseat it in the slot. Also, not sure if it's related, but your're running an older version of the firmware (20.00.04.00). You should look into updating that. does the emulated drive appear mountable?

  17. SMART looks OK, but syslog seems to indicate these may be actual disk problems. Which controller is this disk on? Since it passed extended test, you can try to rebuild to the same disk and see if it works. Not necessary to remove, just Stop array Unassign disabled disk Start array with disabled disk unassigned Stop array Reassign disabled disk Start array to begin rebuild of disabled disk On Main, you should see Writes to rebuilding disk, Reads from parity and all other array disks, nothing in the Errors column. If there are problems post new diagnostics.

  18. Current plan is to revert back to libvirt-6.5 but we are going to try and test libvirt-6.8 today though I don't see any commit that references this issue: https://gitlab.com/libvirt/libvirt/-/commits/master Not even sure how libvirt team manages post-release bug fixes. Their "maintenance" branches seem to end with v5.3.

  19. The 'tainted' keyword is because of the out-of-tree nvidia driver which was loaded. Its nothing bad or to be worried about - just lets people know that you are using an "unsupported" configuration due to that oot driver so kernel-level tech support would be limited. The call trace appears to be a kernel bug relating to kswapd and several other people are seeing this issue - according to google. It *may* not be a critical issue and can be ignored, but I don't know for sure. You could always try the beta version to see if the newer kernel fixes things.

  20. Cheers limetech. So i tried as you advised with 0.1.189 and windows updates this on its own made no difference. I then wiped away the entire VM. Reinstalled from fresh with windows 10 pro 2004 media and received update errors. I then wiped away the VM once again and created from fresh once again however this time i went with i440fx-4.0 instead of i440fx-4.2 as i had previously. The VM is working and these are them configurable used: hyper-v enabled, OVMF,USB controller 2.0, vdisk with SATA/RAW. My network card is virtio-net (as i would see a GSO error in logs when using just "virtio"). Along side the VM changes i have append kernel arguments: "vfio-pci.ids=10de:1c02,10de:10f1 video=vesafb:off video=efifb:off". For the GPU vbios i dumped the vbios in another system and removed the nvflash header in a hex editor as per spaceinvader ones youtube guide. I used virtio-win-0.1.189 again for this build and fully updated. This this time my USB audio device and then passing through the GPU was also successful. Before tearing everything down and changing the virtual hardware template i would notice that if i pass through the GPU windows would have no audio outputs (not just the HDMI out but every audio device was missing) and if i stopped passing through the GPU then the USB audio device would automatically appear in outputs working as expected. What the single solution was i am not so sure either the hardware profile from 4.2 to 4.0 or wiping away the windows install completely would be my guess since that VM i had tried passing through the built in HD sound card thats very difficult to get functioning it would seem and may have impacted windows sound for anything else thus why i brought a USB device to then that didn't work either! Thanks for the reply/ help and the complete answer is for anyone else that may get some inspiration on a similar issue since i have spent days at it!

  21. Parity can only emulate a disk at the disk level. if the disk itself has corruption (file system corruption), whether or not it was due to a write error, then chances are that the emulated disk will have that corruption too. It's not the end of the world though, the file system just needs to be repaired and many times that can be accomplished with little or no loss of data. What check are you referring to? A repair of the file system? It sounds like unraid is writing that 'emulated' disk back to the physical disk, which will not in itself fix the unmountable issue, that requires a repair of the filesystem. Your data rebuild may fail if there are continued errors with that Marvell card and port multiplier. Its best to replace those ASAP rather than waiting. As for Marvell; their drivers for linux seem flaky at best and is the reason that those controllers are not recommended for unraid. Pretty much any LSI card will work, just make sure it is flashed to IT mode and has the latest firmware - you don't want to use unraid with a RAID card. EDIT: -and avoid 'new' LSI cards from China as they are most often counterfeit. Best to get used cards pulled for servers.

  24. I suspect you will be rather disappointed by the performance, given the slowness of those drives, but they should work ok. If your hardware is rock solid, use BTRFS on everything. However, if the hardware is marginal, or you don't have a proper UPS in place, I'd use XFS. It seems more resilient to hardware crashes.

  31. Those would all be wrong to start... because linux is very specific on the format of things... there's no such thing as mnt/user because it would actually be /mnt/user/ with a preceeding forward slash.. maybe you just left that out while writing and actually know that already but figured I'd just point that out in case... No, everything exists already. No, /mnt/ is not under /root/. Open a new console window, you might see root@TOWER:~!# assuming your user name is root and TOWER is your Unraid name. type ls -- you probably only see mdcmd@, right? This is your root directory.. it's not really used for anything at this point.. that I'm aware of. type cd /boot and then ls --- that's your flash drive. you shouldn't really do anything here, just showing you a location. now type cd /mnt and ls -- now you see your disks. type cd user and ls -- now you see your shares. from /root you'd type cd /mnt/user to get to your shares So in the case of creating a VM, I'm not actually sure what your problem is .... in the template you'd select an existing iso which would look like /mnt/user/isos/ubuntu-20.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso

  46. With a macOS vm it has custom things in the xml. If you look at the end of the first xml you posted and the second you will see. Because of this any changes that you need to do to the template cant be done in the Unraid template manager as it removes custom edits at present.
