  1. Hey all, Pretty proud of my first Unraid machine. Finally have it to a "finished" state. I wanted to share some good photos but I'm no photographer. I scored all 10 14TB HDD's from shucking Seagate external drives a few months ago, before the price boom, so $225 apiece. Hoping price comes back down because I have space for a few more. I'm still in the learning phase but I have set up OpenVPN, Nextcloud with reverse proxy, Plex, Windows 10 VM, and Ubuntu VM. Running headless for now until I have a need for a GPU assuming they come down to MSRP. I have a 10Gbps card in this and my regular PC, so they're directly connected without a switch. All-in cost right now is north of $5k, but I am also interested in upgrading to a Ryzen 5900/5950x when those are available at MSRP also. Before anyone gets concerned, the drive power lines are not all chained together.

  2. Standards are so good that everyone wants their own, so that's what Microsoft did: See here: https://tldp.org/HOWTO/CDROM-HOWTO/x1186.html#AEN1328 Perhaps Joliet support is not included in the Unraid kernel but it is in the Ubuntu kernel. That would make sense because Unraid is not a general purpose Linux and has a lot of unnecessary options removed. If that's the case then your options would be: re-create your .iso with Rock Ridge enabled; use a different image file format that supports long filenames and mixed case natively; use an Ubuntu VM to mount the .iso file; make a feature request for Joliet support to be included in a future release; investigate the possibility of compiling your own kernel with Joliet support included.

  3. I was able to connect to Unraid by providing static IPv4 to Unraid in Settings >> NetworkSettings >> IPv4 address assignment <-- static ip Thanks all for your co-operations and help! @SimonF looking forward for E1000 and vmxnet3 in upcoming release! It will make life much easy!

  4. @ghost82, you are correct! I hadn't updated this post since I figured that out a day ago, but I actually just rebooted unraid all-together, and I could then verify the USB-serial through the Home Assistant VM. Thank you!

Nochmal Danke

  7. It's an Unraid/GUI bug, you can still do it manually using the console.

  10. From the mount(8) man page: What is the origin of your .iso file? Is it Rock Ridge compatible? Using a standard Kubuntu installation image, it works fine for me: [email protected]:~# mkdir t [email protected]:~# mount -t iso9660 /mnt/user/isos/kubuntu-20.10-desktop-amd64.iso t mount: /root/t: WARNING: source write-protected, mounted read-only. [email protected]:~# ls t EFI/ boot/ casper/ install/ pics/ preseed/ README.diskdefines boot.catalog dists/ md5sum.txt pool/ [email protected] [email protected]:~# ls t/casper filesystem.manifest filesystem.size initrd filesystem.manifest-minimal-remove filesystem.squashfs vmlinuz filesystem.manifest-remove filesystem.squashfs.gpg [email protected]:~# umount t [email protected]:~# rmdir t I suggest you try the same (or similar) standard file.

  11. I just solved this issue using btrfs repair. This was my last resort before going for a full reformat of the cache pool, so I would recommend attempting everything else first and also backing up your cache pool before attempting this. I started the array in maintenance mode, then ran the following command (targeting my specific device, /dev/sdg1): btrfs check --repair /dev/sdg1 It seems like it worked and everything is back to normal including my docker containers. Again it seems like this isn't a tested method, so use with caution and ensure you have a backup before attempting.

  12. br0 is the bridge interface that is used by Qemu, what is the hypervisor that runs your pfsense VM. Where checking if the interface is running correctly on the host, in your case unraid. If u do in the shell of unraid: virsh iface-list You will get the list of interfaces that are used by qemu, that u can link to a vm and if its active or not. My guess its up based on the ifconfig. So its active, then its a issue is likely inside the vm. But seeing your trying to configure the interface in pfsense from the shell menu and listed down is not normal behavior. (not for me atleast, when i run pfsense) You could try and configure it in pfsense and see if it comes up then.

  13. I wont use the Q35 untill bug 238922 in BSD (https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=236922) is properly fixed, there have been commits done to fix it, but this is on BSD 13.0, and PFsense / Opnsense are still on the 12.2-STABLE train. There are indeed some workarounds to run a virtio device under q35 on a PCi bus. But i gave up on that, i had similar issues like you have and weird behavior with packet ordering under in my case opnsense. Opnsense still has the advice not to use the q35 either, so if u get it working.. dont get your hopes up it will be error free. So basicly im fallback running virtio-net (10Gbase-T) under i440fx-5.1 and have no issues getting 1GBe on my internet pipe and routing traffic over my 10GBe network with decent speeds. My personal advice will be switch to i440fx-5.1.

  15. @The Fantastic Loki Are these source vhd files from an legacy or uefi vm? This is besides missing hdd drivers for the guest the most common issues. When setting up your VM the next time, using an converted vhd file, try switching between the 2 different BIOS versions OVMF(UEFI boot) and SeaBIOS(legacy boot) and see if this helps. Missing drivers could also be the cause. If you install a VM inside Virtualbox for example, installing the guest additions, you install special drivers for Virtualbox. Drivers for virtio or scsi controllers used in Qemu/KVM aren't included and are missing trying to boot these vhds in unraid. Either you install the drivers from the virtio iso inside the source VM under VirtualBox for example, or you set your "Primary vDisk Bus type" to sata or IDE. When creating a new VM in unraid to install a fresh linux, arch ubuntu or whatever, don't use an existing somehow converted vdisk, creat it new from scatch with unraid with the gui. Simply enter 50G for a 50GB vdisk, leave the rest as it is and you should be good to go.

  16. try docker exec -it -u33 /bin/bash and run it from there - you can just hit y then. or try to type -y after your command

  18. I've had no issues with Duplicacy. I did test some extensive restores and all worked out and checksummed correctly. However, for such a small amount of data, I would just RClone the differentials. That way you have direct file access (even though they are encrypted). Another thought is that I REALLY love TRESORIT. It's pricey but it is THE ABSOLUTE BEST box type sync with high quality encryption out there. It blows DropBox out of the Water. If you are under 2TB, I'd go TRESORIT and use a Windows Machine with a program called SyncFoldersPro. This is how I backup my NFO files and metadata for Kodi, etc.. I use SyncFoldersPro to simultaneously backup (with advanced filters) to my onsite backup server and Tresorit online backup. Works like a charm!
