  1. More clarifications: in Unraid OS only user-defined pools can be configured as multi-device ZFS pools. You can select ZFS as the file system type for an unRAID array disk, but will always be just a single device. The best way to think of this, anywhere you can select btrfs you can also select zfs, including 'zfs - encrypted' which is not using zfs built-in encryption but simply LUKS device encryption. Also note that ZFS hard drive pools will require all devices in a pool to be 'spun up' during use. IMO where ZFS will shine is in large flash-based pools (SSD, NVMe, etc).

  3. That did it. Thank you. May I ask what was the problem with this? Why did it keep trying to find a trial key when I am already running Basic key.

  5. Well, at least you got my age right. I work in front of a computer all day and there is always a browser tab with the forums open. When I need a break from real work, I just check what is going on in the forums. I can't help on a lot of deeper topics but I figure I can help out by picking off some of the easier things and freeing up the real rockstars to do their thing more. 😀

  6. I was able to get this working. It actually was as you said plex itself. It corrupted my DB. Just stopped plex container -> Went to the DB in plex folder structure -> Backed up current DB and then restored one from a few days ago -> Started Plex Container and boom started scanning and loading my missing stuff. Appreciate the guidence.

  7. Pool is back, to use it you first need to reset it, so unassign all members from this pool, start array, stop array, re-assign both pool devices and start the array.

  15. You can use the remount option, e.g. have a user script after array start: mount -o remount -o compress=zstd:10 /mnt/cache P.S. I've asked LT to enable compression by default when zfs is available and Tom suggested he might do the same for btrfs, so soon there might be two filesystem compression options.

  18. Yep. re: performance, preliminary testing shows that when used as a single device pool writes to zfs are a little slower than to xfs and btrfs, this for a large file transfer with disks, it's around 5 to 10% slower depending on the disk used, but still needs more testing, and still need to test with single pool flash-based devices and also compare performance with the various multi device pool options between btrfs and zfs.

  29. A multi-disk pool is a single volume. You can't access these disks separately. So /mnt/cache2 isn't a path to storage (it would be a path created in rootfs, which is in RAM). The correct path to that pool would be /mnt/cache

  30. You need to do the following: Remove "statistics.sender.plg". It's part of the old preclear. It is no longer needed and is not compatible with 6.11. Remove "modprobe i915" from the go.txt file, Unraid takes care of that in 6.11. Remove all the stuff in the smb-extra.conf file and install UD to create a rootshare. Put "[global]" and "logging = 0" in the smb-extra.conf. Reboot.

  33. You definitely want your main Plex Appdata folder on an SSD for the best browsing experience. My current Plex library is using ~8 GB in its Appdata folder: - Movies: 2248 - TV Shows / Episodes: 444 / 12269 - Music Artists / Tracks: 31 / 1537 The Transcode directory should only have the current active streams and only for the amount of time you have set for transcode buffer, so unless you regularly have 20+ streams that your server is transcoding, you don't have to worry too much. I think mine with 4 streams once hit about 7 GB of usage, but that is purely me trying to remember something from years ago. With that said, and with Unraid supporting multiple pools now, I personally have my transcode directory mapped to an old Intel 660p SSD on it's own pool just called 'cache_temp' so that I'm not wastefully writing to my good redundant SSD cache pool. You could mount it to the linux temp file system at /dev/shm, but that is in your memory and if Plex does do something weird and doesn't delete previous transcode streams, then you eat your memory fast and cause other issues. The large Plex usage in my experience is mostly attributed to a few things: 1) Video Preview Thumbnails (Individual Library Advanced Settings > Advanced > Enable video preview thumbnails): This takes up a ton of space per video 2) Chapter thumbnails (Server Settings > Library > Generate chapter thumbnails): Takes up a good amount of space, less then video preview thumbnails, but still a good extra chunk 3) Lots of TV shows: Each episode gets meta data and with more scene changes, typically 3 or 4 episodes of TV will take up more space then a single movie

  34. The correct answer to this is to set up a VM environment with all the appropriate tools and such. Unraid is NOT designed to be used as a general multipurpose linux box, it's an appliance with limited command line tools. Only root is allowed access to the command line. I know you can force it to do things it's not designed to do, but you will be fighting an uphill battle with each update possibly breaking your workarounds. Much better to let the Unraid OS be an appliance and host your containers, VM's and storage. Set up a VM as your daily driver.

  35. I tried to research compatibility for an i7 x10 Supermicro I built from a mix of spare parts I had and refurbished ebay buys that I told myself I will post the results somewhere. Maybe someone can benefit from the time I spent on this, especially because there is so much conflicting information out there regarding the X10 boards and their requirement for ECC ram due to the C224 chipset (which makes no sense as the CPU does not support it). So here goes: - intel i7 4790K CPU - supermicro x10slm+-f (supports i7, 6x onboard SATA, 4x8b=32gb ram and has ipmi on board) - I had 2 x 8gb non-ecc 1600 ram from a previous build. Description: Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) CL9 @1.5V UDIMM 240-Pin Memory BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00 - I bought two additional SK Hynix sticks on ebay. Description: SK Hynix 8 GB non-ECC DDR3L-1600 PC3L-12800U 1.35V HMT41GU6BFR8A-PB Both are non-ECC, however voltage is different (which I didn't pay attention to when purchasing off ebay). So I tried my luck and lo and behold the system posts and works for 48h so far and passed memtest. I paid $30 for the ram and $60 for the board, IMO a decent investment to get additional onboard SATA slots, double ram and IPMI capability.

  38. Is there a reason why you don't simply use SSD / NVME for your working directory when you're editing? I have a 1TB Gen4 NVME that I use exclusively for photo / video editing. It's mounted as a single drive cache pool, with my /workingdata share set to "only" for cache, with that NVME selected. It has zero issues saturating the 2x10gbe connection in to my Unraid box. When I'm done with the edits, I move it to the array (which subsequently moves it to another NVME cache pool, then gets moved by the mover when I'm sleeping). Mechanical disk RAIDz will never touch the throughput and scrub speed that modern NVME can do. And they're cheap! I just picked up another 1TB Intel (granted, PCIe3, not 4) for $69 at Micro Center the other day.

  39. I have 2 unraid servers, both running 6.11.5 connected locally via a ubiquiti switch and 10g ethernet. I have the media shares mounted via NFS on both servers via the unassigned devices plugin. I have noticed every few days though that the shares seem to disconnect? It is weird though, dockers can continue to use the share, so like Plex still has access, but if I restart a docker that uses that share, it will fail and I will need to unmount and mount the share again. I am attaching my logs and diagnostics when it happens. I am mostly referring to the "Media2" share. 9900k-diagnostics-20230108-0125.zip 9900k-syslog-20230108-0124.zip

  45. One thing I would try first is to delete all of the codecs in your Plex appdata codecs folder. It has been a long running issue with plex, where a codec gets corrupt and causes a playback issue. When you restart Plex, it will go out on the internet and reload the folder with the current set of codecs. This issue is specific to Plex, on all platforms, not just Unraid.

  46. Each individual pool can have encryption or not, just like the array. Stop the array and go to the pool (cache) settings and change the file system type. Note: when a pool consists of 2 or more devices, it will always use btrfs.
