Success! Took me a minute to figure out how to access and use the IPMI (I have never worked with dedicated server hardware before, but that is a neat system). Just strange that they want a license key to unlock the ability of BIOS update via IPMI, after you have already spent 400 bucks on the hardware. But getting around that was also not difficult, so what is the point? Anyway, via the IMPI the installation of the 1.6 BIOS worked without issue. Then I booted again with the unraid stick, it went up to /bzroot again just long enough to tease me and shout at the screen (because I thought it would hang up again). But then it continued booting to the GUI. So I think this is finally fixed for me. Now I can start to get familiar with the actual OS. Thank you so much for your help, it is much appreciated!

Hello, I came across a small issue regarding the version status of an image that apparently was in OCI format. Unraid wasn't able to get the manifest information file because of wrong headers. As a result, checking for updates showed "Not available" instead. The docker image is the linuxGSM docker container and the fix is really simple. This is for Unraid version 6.11.5 but it will work even for older versions if you find the corresponding line in that file. SSHing into the Unraid server, in file: /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/dynamix.docker.manager/include/DockerClient.php change line 448 to this: $header = ['Accept: application/vnd.docker.distribution.manifest.list.v2+json,application/vnd.docker.distribution.manifest.v2+json,application/vnd.oci.image.index.v1+json']; And the version check worked after that. I suppose this change will be removed upon server restart but it will be nice if you can include it on the next Unraid update 😊 Thanks

Wanted to document this for others, if your Unraid system has Docker enabled there are very simple ways to stress your CPU and system for checking temperatures, cooling and stability. Even without prime95, stress or stress-ng being easily available as an Unraid “app” if you can access your server via ssh you can easily stress test and max out your server. A Docker image is available specifically built to stress the system made possible by DigitalOcean. 1) Login via SSH - Access your Unraid server via ssh. You’ll login with your root credentials. 2) Docker Command - Enter this command at the prompt to do a quick first test: docker run --rm -it progrium/stress --cpu 2 --io 1 --vm 2 --vm-bytes 128M --timeout 10s On first run Docker will download the Docker image from DockerHub and the command tells it to run on 2 CPUs for only 10 seconds. 3) Tweak For You Needs - After you are successful with your first run. Press the up arrow and your last command should be shown. Go ahead and tweak the "cpu" and "timeout" values to what’s appropriate to your system and the test you are looking to run. I wouldn't max to your total threads on the first few runs get a feel for how it effects the system. 4) Watch CPU Usage and Temps - You should be able to see your CPU ramping up on the Unraid Dashboard tab in your web browser and if you install Dynamix System Temp in the Apps tab you should also see your temps. You should examine the files on disk1 to make sure you don't need them. system share looks like it might be duplicates, less clear about appdata

Team Work

appdata, domains, system shares should ideally be all on fast pool and set to stay there so Docker/VM performance isn't impacted by slower array, and so array disks can spin down since these files are always open. Leave these cache:prefer. Nothing can move open files. You have to disable Docker and VM Manager in Settings then run mover to get these moved. Also, mover won't replace files so there may be some manual cleanup to get these all off the array. No need to backup docker.img since it is easily recreated. You can backup appdata and libvirt.img using that same plugin. You will also need a way to backup VM vdisks. There is a plugin for that too.

Thanks @endystrike. I went back to 2.10 and was able to run benchmark on drives individually. When I try and benchmark all drives at once, I check the box to ignore speed gaps yet during the benchmarking it gets hung up.

I would agree as far as disk health is concerned, but using a scheduled monthly parity check has the additional advantage of checking that parity is still in-sync with the data drives as it is possible for them to get out-of-sync for other reasons than just disk issues.

Entweder viel Geduld oder ohne Parity einrichten und Parity nachträglich erzeugen. Der zweite Weg sollte aber beinhalten, daß es von den wichtigen Daten immer ein Backup geben sollte. Mit meinen mehr als 300TB kann ich sagen, ohne Parity aufkopieren udn die Parity später erstellen lassen, wenn alles da ist, wo es hin soll, ist defiitiv schneller. Ja, hatte ich auch gemacht, weil ich sonst die TBW der SSD direkt beim Erstzbefüllen signifikant angekratzt hätte. Ich würde (bei vorhandenem Backup/Original der Daten) Paritybuild abbrechen, das Array ohne Parity neu erstellen, dann Befüllen und im Anschluß Paritydisk dazu aktivieren und dann Parity erstellen lassen. Wenn Du sicher gehen willst, daß zwischenzeitlich auch nichts schief gegangen ist, nach dem Paritybuild Deine Datenquelle mit Deinen unraiddaten (binär) vergleichen. Lesend ist das Array ja so normalschnell wie eine einzelne Festplatte. Ja, sowas (Images von Backups) mit sogar einigen hundert GB hatte ich auch dazwischen. Das Array in unraid ist wegen der Parität nicht schnell. Deshalb nutzt man ja als Cache eine schnelle SSD, die als Zwischenouffer im normalen Betrieb fungiert und dann in Offzeiten in aller Ruhe auf das Array umkopieren kann. Dafür ist unraid im Array auch eher auf Stromsparen angelegt. Es laufen notwendigerweise eben nicht immer alle Festplatten im Array (an), wenn man ein paar Daten aufkopiert. Mit Reconstruct Write sind Geschwindigkeiten fast bis an native Geschwindigkeit einer einzelnen Festplatte möglich. Aber dann laufen eben alle Festplatten in einm Array und unraid frisst soviel Strom, wie man es auch bei einem Raid haben kann. Ich habe durch "Most free" Regel und ohne Parity (also roundrobin Verteilung der Schreibzugriffe) auf sehr viele leere Festplatten unter zunraid am Anfang sogar viele TB mit mehr als 500MByte/s schreiben können (als ich vor ca. 1,5 Jahren mit unraid anfing). Aber das ist eben nicht der übliche Praxisfall, sondern war eine Sondersituation, weil eben nie eine Festplatte dauerhaft beschrieben wurde und der riesige RamCahe auch gut mitgeholfen hat. Dafür liefen dann in dem Array alle Festplatten gleichzeitig und das System fraß dafür mehr Strom, als wenn die Festplatten im Spindown waren. Vielleicht solltest Du nochmal überdenken, was Du wirklich willst und anhand dessen entscheiden, ob unraid das richtige Mittel der Wahl ist. unraid (out of the box/normalbetrieb mit Festplatten im Array): stromsparend und kein RAID, sondern Parity andere Systeme: Raid, dafür nicht so stromsparend.

The only requirement in this case is that it not be larger than parity. We are going to New Config/Trust parity anyway. It is not going to be a replacement disk, it is just going to be a placeholder disk1 so New Config/Trust parity will have a disk1 we can disable and access its contents if necessary.

So it looks like my problem was that I didn't assign a local IP to the container. I skipped over it because Spaceinvader skipped it in the video and it was listed as (optional) in the config. I was able to get a result from apt-get update using both dns=1.1.1.1 AND dns=192.168.111.6 (Lancache-dns) I think I should be able to continue from this point. Thank you so much for all the help! Deine Parität ist doch noch gar nicht aufgebaut, wenn ich das richtig sehe. Da ist ein Ausrufezeichen. Dann kann Reconstruct Write denke ich nicht funktionieren. Lass die Parität erstmal erstellen.

Das hat bei mir auch geholfen. Ich hatte ständig mal Hänger ohne das wirklich was in den Logs stand. Ohne die Stromspareinstellungen läuft er ohne Probleme durch. Wahrscheinlich habe ich durch die ganzen Neustarts mehr verbraucht wie durch die Laufzeit mit Powersaves.

Probier doch mal ohne die ganzen Powersave Einstellungen. Einfach mal testen.

FYI: I think you mean disk1 in the main Unraid array? Just checking as that array is not using RAID5 (and hence the name Unraid). In terms of checking/repairing disk1 then the easiest way to proceed is to do it from the GUI as described here in the online documentation. If you must do it from the command line then you should have used /dev/md1 as the target device since this would preserve parity. Luckily your command was wrong in that it had the wrong target device (it should have been /dev/sdf1) as that would have invalidated parity.

This is tough since AV1 isn't even working properly on Windows (stutters, artifacts and even crashing the whole system) and on Linux there needs some serious work to be done too to get the HW transcoding working. The next thing is that on Linux you need the Intel Media Drivers package too which needs to be integrated into the containers themself to even support encoding/decoding in the container. I've seen some serious progress recently in the Intel Media Driver GitHub but it's a long way that those things work reliably (on Windows too) like for the already existing Intel iGPUs with QuickSync for h264 (AVC) or h265 (HEVC). EDIT: I'm also not sure if much devices can decode AV1 currently, at least I think Apple devices, especially iOS lacking support for AV1 currently, but that might change in the near future.

Guys for anyone having the issue of some HDD models recognized as SSD, I found a temporary fix: rollback to version 2.10. How to do that? Just edit the docker settings and set this field as follows: if the issue still persists, just remove the docker, delete the following folder "/mnt/user/appdata/DiskSpeed/" or wherever you've saved the app data of this docker, then when you reinstall the docker, set the repository field as "jbartlett777/diskspeed:2.10". In the future, when the bug will be fixed you'll just have to edit the docker again and set the repository to pull the latest version as follows: "jbartlett777/diskspeed". Hope this will help!

Ok- I *THINK* this should fix things. For some reason, rich text pasting was enabled (maybe a system change from a recent forum update?) but I changed it to "Paste as Plain text" which I believe was the default before. Please let me know if this issue persists.

As far as I know no, hope that answers your question. A few things to keep in mind: Even if the M-Chip powered Mac Minis are about 40W you have to add power for external storage devices if you want to use it like some kind of NAS and that's maybe why someone recommended a Odroid SBC because for a low power NAS such a board makes much more sense because of the built in SATA ports and expandable storage. Another thing is that not every application on DockerHub has a ARM version and building a translation layer like Rosetta for the M-Chips on Linux must be done first to support x86_64, of course you could maybe use QEMU and run a VM on your M-Chip powered Mac Mini for your x86_64 Docker applications but that kind of defeats the purpose of Docker. Besides that there are also multiple ARM revisions out there, v7 and arm64 are the most common ones, every application has to be compiled for each individual ARM version and created a Docker container for, not to speak that the M-Chips also have some kind of special sauce (instructions) which can be maybe used to further improve performance <- since there is no documentation on these chips no one has knowledge how they are working and everything has to be reverse engineered. I looked myself into that and what is possible with a bit more powerful ARM hardware than a RaspberryPi on Linux, but it turns out that you can't do much because of lacking support (especially Rockchip) for Linux. Transcoding is a bit rough (no support for the SBC that I used back then) and the container maintainers would need to implement every codec/dependency to support each individual ARM GPU <- this is in my opinion a really convoluted space. ARM is cool tech indeed and can be of course be power efficient but consumer based powerful ARM hardware that is truly Linux compatible is not released as of today AFAIK, please correct me if I'm wrong about that, of course except for M-Chip powered Macs but these are not really of better speaking fully Linux compatible, at least not as time of writing. From my perspective ARM needs to establish itself a bit more and needs to be more widespread in the consumer space to become a viable option, especially for some kind of NAS with lots of storage and transcoding capabilities. I would really hear what your thoughts are about that, please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions on ARM powered hardware and how far they are as of time of writing.

I believe 5600X supports PCIE ver 4, the 5600G supports PCIE ver 3. It is also my understanding both support ECC memory.

Has anyone found a solution for that yet? I tried to update my Nexcloud via WebUI, but then it got stuck. When I try to open my Nextcloud there only is the text: Update in process. After that I have seen a post in the Nextcloud forum, where it was said that I should delete the updater Folder in my Nextcloud Share. I did this but it didnt work after that. Then I found this post here, and i tried the upgrade via terminal as @Maticks described, but then I get the same error as @TekDRu. Can anyone help? Hello, I'm having an issue with VLANs on unRAID. On my network I have VLAN 3 setup. Anything I plug directly into the switch ports functions as it should with the VLAN. If I try and use the VLAN on unRAID, it won't work (no network connection). I tried with a VM as well and had the same result. Docker and VMs work just fine if I use br0. On unRAID I created the VLAN on my eth0 connection. VLAN Number: 3 Connection: br0.3 Protocol: IPv4 Address Assignment: None Docker: IPv4 custom network on interface br0.3: Subnet: 192.168.3.0/24 Gateway: 192.168.3.1 DHCP pool: not set If I configure a VM to use br0.3, it does not pull an IP from DHCP. There is no connection even if I assign one manually. Let me know if you need additional info. Any ideas as to what could be going on? Resolution: I was overthinking the issue. Recently I swapped out my gateway for a new one. During configuration, I tagged the eth0 port on the switch to use only LAN instead of All Networks. A switch of that setting resolved it. What can I do to keep my Ryzen based server from crashing/locking up with Unraid? Ryzen on Linux can lock up due to issues with c-states, and while this should mostly affect 1st gen Ryzen there are reports that 2nd and even 3rd gen can be affected in some cases, make sure bios is up to date, then look for "Power Supply Idle Control" (or similar) and set it to "typical current idle" (or similar). If there's no such setting in the BIOS try instead to disable C-States globally, also note that there have been some reports that with some boards the setting above is not enough and only completely disabling C-States brings stability. Also many of those servers seem to be running overclocked RAM, this is known to cause stability issues and even data corruption on some Ryzen/Threadripper systems, even if no errors are detected during memtest, server and overclock don't go well together, respect max RAM speed according to config and CPU listed on the tables below.
