  1. i did the compute button on appdata share and only see the cache listing. i am also checking dockers that are pointing to a share other then user/appdata or cache/appdata. its a long process of waiting but am manually turning on 1 at a time to see if i can see which 1. im narrowing it down and i think it might be nextcloud for some reason but i am not sure as i am the only user on it and its a brand new install but havnt configured anything on it yet after installing it a couple of weeks ago.
  2. i have my drives set to spin down after 15minutes and have lately noticed that a docker is reading/writing every few minutes enough to spike it on netdata and spin it up. is there a way i can check what docker is doing it besides turning them all off (only the dockers pointing to the array) and waiting? i already checked the most common things like plex's auto update and all that is disabled. i also dont have any autoscan scripts. the only thing i do have is mover but that runs every hour and i dont believe it would trigger it as there is nothing to move on the cache. hoping that there is something out that will list all the containers and show data similar to windows task manager where it shows the usage for cpu, disk, network etc so i can see the spin up on the disk.
  3. wow! this would have been a great script to have when i lost 3 hard drives. dont know what data got lost.
  4. he appears to be the main git author for photoprism and said "We just don't have the time and energy to deal with all the problems MySQL has when only a few people actually use it."
  5. yea im giving photoprism a try and was getting a bunch of errors when adding photos on a new setup and was yelled at for using the latest mysql 8 which they said isnt supported because lack of users using it.
  6. im using a docker container that is giving me errors and according to its devs, mysql isnt supported anymore. ive been using mysql for years. how do i go about switching everything over?
  7. im not sure where to post this in the forum. i have an oculus quest that uses bigscreen app to watch 3d movies on via plex's upnp/dlna service. i have port forwarded all the ports given on discord and have upnp/dlna enabled on my router. the issue is, when i change plex to custom network, plex's upnp/dlna isnt found. when i change it to bridge, it finds the plex server fine. how can i fix this besides manually changing each time since i followed the hardlinks guide to make everything compatible with plex?
  8. i had 8 disks and 2 parity disks but when i had this setup, 1 sometimes 2 disks would get disabled and thought it was a power supply issue. i left the 8 disks alone and removed parity 2 and didnt have any issues after. once i had 2 more drives, i know i couldnt add them without putting in a new psu. i build a new gaming pc a couple of years ago so i had my older bigger psu sitting there and thought id put it in unraid. 1 of the last modular cables didnt belong so it fried the last 2 drives. i sent in the drive to donor drives for a pcb swap for $90 but they said both had too many issues. that 1 was clicking which is weird because they was working fine as in no sector errors or anything like that. the total to repair both drives is about $2200 lol. no idea what is in the drives. my unraid consists mainly on movies but no idea if a few docs or personal pics or videos uploaded from my phone are on them. tbh i dont even know how they got its clicking because the drives dont even power up. i dont know if they swapped the pcb and tested it then swapped it back either. only paid $12 to ship them back.
  9. this is a stupid question and i am too afraid to try it for myself but i am wondering if each drive has the share directory on the root? for example, if i take out disk 4 and mount in in ubuntu, would i see the exact same shares as i do when browsing using the webgui at http://tower/Main/Browse?dir=/mnt/disk4 ? just asking because i might need data recovery done on a couple of drives. it looks like all my shares are in the root of the drives so i can tell them to recover /pictures and /videos.
  10. when adding drives to my server, i access them from the top down so the top drives get in the way. it holds 15 drives with 3 racks holding 5 each. in unraid, i have disks 1-8 so far but i want to skip 9-12 and start filling the last rack from the bottom up as to have easier access to connecting the drives. would it cause any issues if i leave disk 9-12 as unassigned and go backwards from disk 13? im talking about this picture below but only up to disk 13. i want to assigned 13, then later on add assign disk 12 and so on. just want to ask if its will cause any issues with unraid if doing so.
  11. turns out they use another company called outsource data recovery. for replacing the pcb was going to cost under $100 so i sent in 2 drives and they quoted me around $1,000 per drive. i then called and spoke to a rep and they said the drives had way more issues like clicking and something surface related issues. i honestly thought they was bsing me because they didnt even show anything in unraid before and i went a little overboard with packing them so i dont know where they got clicking issues from. since i was hoping that it was a pcb board issue, i spent the last month praying that i could get 1 of 2 drives fixed so i can at least rebuild a drive since i only had 1 parity disk. the reason i only 1 parity drive is because every time i had 2, i think the psu couldnt handle it and would disable disks. im pretty devastated. so since 2 disks are gone, does that mean i should look into removing those missing disks from the array and starting a new config?
  12. ah ok next time ill just say linux desktop xfs filesystem. you are an MVP in this forum thanks for all the help!!!!
  13. thanks ill give them a call tomorrow they are closed. just got off the phone with DriveSavers: Data Recovery and the guy was a total asshole and didnt know what unraid was. i told him how it worked so he kept saying it was some sort of raid and if it was mirrored. i did my best to explain to him that while all the drives work together, they are independent and if i take 1 drive out, the files are accessible. i the last thing i told him was that the unraid sees 2x 4tb as 8tb, fills up 1 4tb, then fills up the 2nd 4tb but it sees it as 8tb. im not sure if i explained it correctly lol. in my head i know what unraid is but i cant explain it to people good lol!!!
  14. no suggestions from anyone here?
  15. has anyone used a company to swap out pcb on a drive? if so, around how much was it and who did you use? thinking about sending in 1 or 2 drives from my unraid but i fear that they will charge more due to it being for unraid and them saying its because its a server drive.
  16. ok this explains a lot! so i disconnected EVERYTHING from the psu besides the motherboard cables and only have 1 modular cable for molex and put the 1molex to 4 sata and i only used the first available connections on each cable. i went down the rack 1 drive at a time to test them all alone and each single drive shows up in the array assignment. here is where i have a 2 older drives that do not spin up at all. i think a splitter caused a short or something because both are not spinning. if i send these two drives in to a company to replace the pcb, will unraid think they are new drives as the pcb changed?
  17. After seeing the drive once, I don't see it with the molex anymore after continue test on other drives. Not sure why this first drive is giving me issues. There are so many combinations of cables to try ugh! I don't see it on the bios but I do see a flash during post after the sas cards that days physical disks and it lasts a drive. I assume this is the 1 with the direct sata cable to the motherboard and the molex to sata but I don't see it as a bootable drive in the bios. I'm noticing that the keyboard also doesn't wanna interact with the bios. But I don't see it in the boot section where drives are usually at. Is there a way I can use a dock with the raspberry pi just to see if it recognizes it?
  18. I tried a new molex to sata for the hard drives and it saw the drive but I only tried it with 1. If it's the cable, which I'm going to try and switch next, how do I replace the modular cable if they have so many different combinations for different power supplies? Also, I have a sata y splitter for 1x2 but when I bought them, I was new to knowing about quality and I see that these are 4 pin molded on the SATA side. Do you recommend I replace these? I need 3 of them splitter do each rack having 5 hard drives and the modular cable only have 4 connections. Appreciate your suggestion for trying the direct connection thank you!
  19. Yes. The old PSU that I was using for unRAID was none modular. I did transfer the y splitter that I got online from a recommendation here.
  20. i build a new gaming pc and decided to upgrade unraids psu pulled from my older gaming system. the psu never gave me issues. but after crossing my fingers that everything works, i got 4 missing disks that dont show up! -parity 1 doesnt show up -parity 2 sometimes shows up which looks like its the same issue from my previous psu. not a priority right now as it could be an issue with pin 3. -i put the cache drive where parity 1 is, the cache drive was assigned as normal so the cables (power, data) are fine. -i put the parity disk on windows, spins up fine and i see it in disk manager. -i also added 2 new drives which are not assigned yet, they show up fine so i put the parity 1 in place of these 2 working new drives, goes undetected. it is headless so the things i have to do is get a working video cable and see if the drives show up in bios. other then that i dont know what else to try. suggestions please!!! the disks assigned that are showing as missing are: parity 1, disks 1, 3, 8. note: parity 1, parity 2, disks 1-2 are 4 to 1 with the sas and i already got a brand new cable. i figured if it was a cable, disk 2 woudlnt show up but it does. i havnt yet tried to go back to my previous psu as im afraid and for the reason i am upgrading is because 1 disk every now and then gets DISABLED due to the power supply. but besides that, i really cant explain why if i plug in a different drive where those missing drives are at, it gets detected but none of the missing drives get detected no matter what slot i put them in. but again thinking maybe they got fried, they spin up fine and show up in device manager on windows.
  21. i tried upgrading my power supply from a new psu that i had ordered as a backup that doesnt work when adding new drives to unraid. so i left it without all drives being in use till i got psu to add drives to the array. i pulled my old gaming pc's psu knowing it can handle the load but after changing the psu, some drives are not being detected! the weird part is i tried testing with putting the cache ssd where parity 1 is located and it detects the cache drive. windows also detected thee drive in disk management but wasnt accessible due to filesystem. what does this mean?! fwiw the sas and power cables hold 4x1 drives so i dontk now why some work and some dont.
  22. im in the same step. i honestly think that we didnt specify what database in the connection. so we put in the db username and pw and the server address and port but nowhere did we put in the database name. we did change from sqlite to mysql. unsure if its in THIS step where we put in the database name? edit: fixed it. it was a database name. in the connection string, change /photoprism? to reflect the database name. so the instructions should read: 'DBUSER:DBPASSWORD@tcp(DBIP:DBPORT)/DBNAME?parseTime=true'
  23. any help with this? i need dlna to work for my quest 2 to watch plex in vr but i dont want to change the custom network and update all the containers that use plex in order to work.
  24. so i followed advice to put all the plex and containers that communicate with plex under a custom network. it took me a couple of hours to figure out why dlna on plex wasnt working till i changed the network type to host instead of custom. changing it to host instantly showed plex dlna with no issues but breaks connection with other containers. i have all the plex ports forwarding on my router correctly. how can i fix this?
  25. did u find a fix? i am also not able to see dlna. when i boot up a raspberry pi with kodi i can see that devices dlna just fine but rather use plex.
