  1. Tried that shortly after writing my last post. Checked with my backup Win 7 client and it got the same problem. (can't save/delete, permissions tower\nobody) The credential manager (or like the German Windows wants it: "Anmeldeinformationsverwaltung", heh.) only shows my own Windows Live login for Win 8.1, nothing else. Edit: Poked around a bit more and found out, that I can't access any of my private shares anymore - as it wouldn't accept my username/password. Public "secured" network shares work like they should (adding/deleting stuff). So I guess something fucked with the rightsmanagement on unRAIDs side.
  2. Just to have mentioned it - because I don't know if there is a deeper difference to it than showing how much space is left on a network drive and giving it a drive letter- there are 2 ways of adding a network share to windows that I know of: 1.) -> Right Click on Computer -> "Netzlaufwerk verbinden" / TL: "Connect Network share" -> Add via IP-Adress or via name of the server "tower" 2.) -> Open Computer -> Right Click into the "free white space" (just not on a driver or something) -> "Netzwerkadresse hinzufügen" / TL: "Add Network address" -> Add via IP-Adress or via name of the server "tower" I just did that in all 4 combinations : 1.) with name and IP 2.) with name and IP No change in permissions, but "gerry" is now "nobody" (for all 4 new network drives).
  3. Yes S3 is enabled and forgot to mention that rebooting was one of the first things I did.
  4. Hi, really weird problem: I wanted to copy and delete some stuff on my unRAID server, but don't have the permissions anymore. If I want to delete something, Windows 8.1 nags me that I don't have the needed rights/permissions ("You need the permissions from TOWER\nobody...." wait...what?). If I want to copy something on it, TeraCopy (just a better file mover than the Windows integrated one) gives me the error that it "can't find the path". Right now the only way to copy/delete anything is via FTP directly onto each disk - FileZilla can't access / doesn't display the SMB network shares anymore as well. Under "Properties" all permissions for every user are gone as well, I guess normally it should display at least some? unRAID: 5.0.5 Pro + Dynamix, didn't update/install anything before the problems started, just worked fine. Already tried to search around for "Unraid permissions gone" etc., didn't find anything that matched. So yeah, definitely need some help here. syslog.txt
  5. Like the title says: As soon as I turn on/wake my unRAID machine or hours later, there are constantly reads that are keeping the drives busy (not spinning down, even when forced, the just spin up again). No one is accessing the machine (except for me looking at the Web GUI ofc). For some reason, it sounds like there are accesses even when the array is stopped. I have no idea what's going on there.
  6. Hi, as my write speeds are often only ~10-12MB/s (and jumping up to 16-20ish), I wondered if exchanging my parity drive (SG ST2000DL003 with 5900rpm) to one of my ST32000641AS (with 7200rpm) would give better/more stable write speeds. In case of a yes: What would be the best way of doing so? Taking out the ST3200, put in a spare HDD and let parity recover that drive and then taking out the ST2000 exchanging it with the ST3200? (Letting parity be build) Or is there some less hassle and time consuming (it takes like ~24h+ to recover a drive via parity) way?
  7. Hi, I want to move my current unRAID to new hardware - already confirmed that the HW works with unRAID. Is there anything I have to worry about / keep in mind before doing this? Or is it really just about taking the HDDs out of the old machine and plug them into the new one?
  8. For the TL;DR people: In case of this problem choose USB-FDD instead of USB-HDD. (in my case with "BOOTICE v1.1.5 x64" -> "Parts Manage" -> "Re-Partitioning") Phew... good thing that Joe L. reminded me of older Hardware having problems with USB-Sticks of bigger size. Somehow that stuck in my head all the time. "Why could it boot a 60GB external HDD but not a stupid USB-Stick of smaller size?" ... "Let's check BOOTICE again". This time, instead of making a 4GB FAT16 "USB-HDD Single Partition" or a "Multi-Partitions" with the first partition being smaller than 512MB, I chose to good old "USB-FDD" Mode... and it works like a charm, even with 4GB!
  9. Already updated the BIOS as mentioned in the post before. The problem with the 512MB drive is the Plus License. If I remember right, the license was connected with the drive ID or not? (I want to move everything to the "new" machine, including the needed 512MB drive - else it wouldn't work )
  10. Found a 512MB USB-Stick, formatted it FAT16, copied V5 Files on it, used the make_bootable.bat... aaaaaand it works. Tried to format the 4GB Stick with >512MB and FAT16... doesn't work. I really would like to use this Hardware/USB as my "new" unRAID Server, making my current one into a semi-passiv Linux everyday PC, is there any way to get my Plus License changed to this USB? (The License was connected with the USB-Sticks ID if I remember right?)
  11. Damn... still doesn't work for me. Downloaded BOOTICE and tried pretty much everything possible. FAT16 with 4GB, Multi Partition with only 9xxMB Partition Size and FAT16 (even tried FAT32 as well), tried using MBR and GPT, even tried all this with 4.7 instead of 5. The only thing that changed: I don't get any error message at all, only the blinking pipe after the device listing. :\ Edit: Even updated the BIOS to Version F14... still nothing. btw I tried my 2,5" external ~60GB HDD with Win 8.1 on it... that boots perfectly fine into the Windows installation setup.
  12. Hi, I wanted to do a few (software/add-on) tests with unRAID and took some "old" spare Hardware (Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev. 1.0 + C2D E6600), shoved it into a case along with a PSU, a passiv Geforce 7300LE, 1GB RAM, Samsung SATA HDD and voila unRAID testing machine... The problem now: I copied the newest unRAID files (V5 Final from the main site) on a 4GB USB (the same model I use for my regular unRAID) and at boot, the "SYSLINUX: No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found!" error message pops up. I checked Google and the answers I found were about renaming the syslinux files, but they are already correctly named. Any suggestions?
  13. You must be fuc-... thank you. That solved the problem, Disk4 and 5 were simply not set under the settings. Derp. Edit: Great now my first disk died(?) "not installed" it says for Disk1. >_>
  14. Doesn't explain why the already existing Shares aren't getting expanded. (Even after writing something to them) Anyway: Did a further Test after upgrading. Writing to Disk 4 / 5 directly -> Works Creating a Share that includes Disk 4 / 5 -> "Not enough space" ... Existing Shares with Disk1-3 -> Works Existing Shares with Disk1-3 and Disk 4 / 5 -> Works, but it doesn't use Disk 4 / 5 (Share set to Most Free and Disk 4 / 5 ARE the most free ones) Do I maybe have to do any "initialization" or anything like that?
  15. Upgradet to RC16c and deleted all my Add-ons (only SimpleFeatures and PLEX anyway), booted into safe mode, created a new share... nope, still not working. The new share I created (disk4 and 5) is shown to be 5,45TB big, but thats the size of disk1-3. Actually it should only be like 1TB (640GB + 500GB). After that I created a new share called Test8, included disk4 and 5 and excluded disk1-3 -> that shows up as 1,81TB. If I add disk4 and disk5 as their own as network shares, their correct size is shown... (trying in non-safe mode doesn't work as well) Added a Syslog again if that helps. syslog.zip
  16. I stated that in Post #3, it doesn't get created. No error message, nothing happens.
  17. Parity + 5 Data Disks (Plus License) Simply over the Shares Tab -> Create New Share oder Edit one by clicking on it.
  18. Done. Yes they are formatted and of what do you want a screenshot? Main / Devices? Everything Green "Normal Operation" there.
  19. Hm... the 2 Shares I tested stuff with where set to High-Water... dunno why, normaly I use Most Free - changed that for now. (Not without going "HOLY SHI-" unRAID: "Share XYZ was deleted" Me:" WAIT WHAT!?" It didn't got deleted, but why the hell did unRAID say that? o_O) Interesting, if I make a Share that only contains Disk4 and 5, it doesn't get created. If choose Disk1-3 it gets.
  20. Hi, I just added 2 new drives (precleared and set them under devices) to my unRAID Plus (5.0-rc11). But can't get my shares to use them. I tried it with "Include Disks: All" and "Include Disks: Disk1, Disk2, Disk3, Disk4, Disk5" - Exclude Disks is set to None. Already tried stopping/starting the array and rebooting, that didn't help as well. Meh. Don't know what else to do. Edit: Even if I create a new Share, it doesn't use the new drives.
  21. Thanks for the answers guys. Just to be sure, I checked the transfer speed without the Parity Drive - 60-80MB/s+. But I'm still wondering why exactly is it so slow? The CPU doesn't seem to have a problem with the parity calculations (only ~60% CPU utilization) and the HDDs normaly have a Read / Write speed of 100MBs / ~ 60MBs.
  22. Hi, I hope this is the right Forum section for questions like this. I just build my first unRAID (Intel G530 on a ASRock B75M with 4GB RAM) and for testing purposes I installed 2 HDDs (Seagate ST2000DM001). Formatted the drives, set a share and made a network share on my Win 7 PC. Now I copied some stuff over and... 30MB/s max. transfer speed over GBit LAN. Uh not nice, internally installed on my Win 7 PC these would write with ~80-100MB/s. Did I overlook/forgot something in terms of configuration or where my expectations of GBit LAN just to high?
