    To Cache drive or not to Cache drive?

    Wow, I am impressed,

    Just received my Plus license key and rushed to install an old Seagate Momentus 5400.6 drive as a cache drive.

    The increase of data transfer speed is really dramatic. I am writing from the cache drive to a user shares  with ~ 75-80 Mbyte/Sec...while before my peak was something like 35 Mbyte/Sec. I suppose with faster Cache HDD the speed will be even higher.

    My CPU is an old Celleron G530 @ 2.40GHz and non fancy at all Mainboard Asus P8H61-M-LE/USB3 + 4gb cheapo RAM.

    Thanks for your efforts in developing this plugin.

    Just managed to install your 5-th version and was surprised about the overall smooth performance.

    I would be glad to test your latest non public version and to send you some feedback.

    EDITED: May I change the encoding options for the subtitles? I use Cyrillic  subtitles for my movies and never mind what options i choose from the air-video backend in my device I have always get some strange characters. Probably I have to chose koir-8 but haven't found such options in the config menu?

    Dear all,

    I have been using unraid 5, rc3. Then decided to upgrade to rc5. I did the upgrade replacing the bzimage and bzroot files. After starting the server everything worked great and didn't noticed any problems.

    Two days later I have noticed that I can't perform smart tests from the web interface anymore and I got the message that disks need to be spinning in order to perform the test. This message appeared while all my disks was spinning. Restart didn't help at all.

     

    Second problem: I can't install plugins anymore neither from unmenu nor manually. I have a console message saying that the upgradeplg command is not found.

    Do I need to build the system from scratch or I have a chance to fix this issues without rebuilding?

    Yes I am on Unraid RC5

    I just reinstalled transmission. Everything seems to be fine with it.

     

    EDIT: I gave a try to install Couchpotato plugin to test the install ability of my system. The same error message. Probably it is not the plugin but unraid which is messed arround somehow.

    Could you please explain what might be the problem with installing the plugin.

    Transmission Plugin for UnRaid v5b11+

    Dear Benni-chan and all,

    First to thank you for developing Transmission for Unraid.

    Currently I am using Unraid 5.0-rc6-r8168-test and after a reboot the plugin doesn't seems to work. I need to reinstall it from Unmenu again in order to start it again.

    What do I need to do (Probably some command from the "go" file) so that Transmission starts automatically after every restart of the system?

    Sadly I have to report that after filling DISK1 with data and only 750gb free remained (the same free space DISK2 has) unraid continues to write to DISK1 only using User Shares. Again tried to change high-level to 2,3,4.....it is just the same. Restarts performed on every split-level change. Even tried Most-free option.... To me user shares split-levels just don't work. Disk 2 is never used. Do I need to upgrade to RC6 as I am using RC3 recently?

     

    EDIT: Upgraded to 8168-test version. Still no go.

    once disk1 is 50% full it will start to write to disk2.

     

    Yes, theoretically it should be like this. Unfortunately DISK-1 is 55 % full and Unraid continue writing to it...

     

     

    if you want to test the split level's, change allocation method to "most-free".

    Just tested "Most free" method. Split level 3 or 4- it is the same. Only DISK-1 is used by Unraid.

    Thanks for your answer. I have exactly the same folder structure on the second disk. If I write directly on disk2 the movie appears on the user shares. It is obviously writing when I force it but I had the impression that unraid is going to write automatically to the disks based on certain criteria. Probably the problem appears only to rc3?

    Thanks for your answer Tybio,

    If i got it right (according to wiki- Link ) the high water mode means that unraid will start to write on the next drive when the information on the first disk reaches 50% of the volume. So I thought after this 50% Unraid will start writing to the next HDD. Probably I misunderstood the idea.
