  1. I tested with GPU, without GPU With PCie, without PCIE
  2. Yep, is there a different sub-forum for that?
  3. Thats strange, which drives are you talking about? on black Friday i got 4Tb 850x from amazon Germany, it was super cheap 375EURO If you want to go with sata you can always add sata card, JMP585 chip uses PCIe Gen 3.0 x2 and has 5 sata ports so thats 400Mb/s per port if you use 5 , if you use 4 thats 500MB/s, they faster then Intels, my unraid is on 12700 with z690 and it has 8 sata ports, when i benchmark, JMB585 has tad faster results for SSDs and HDD's BTW, you can buy Enterprise U.2 SSDs on ebay, they cheaper and come 4tb, 8Tb, 16Tb, even 40Tb, but whats important is that their TBW [health] is MUCH MUUUUCH longer than mainstream SSDs that you buy in shop. U.2 SSD, can be pluged into M.2 Slot with M.,2 to U.2 cable [its same speeds, PCIE Gen 3, x4] and U.2 size is about like two SATA SSD glued together [Thick boys] This is what I use, Intel P4510 4Tb models, its from chinese seller so you dont have to pay any import tax [they can write that its 10$ product] https://www.ebay.com/itm/275288613769 Here is same drive just in 8TB https://www.ebay.com/itm/334354990782 These drives are used but have health over 90%, but because they enterprise, they will Outlive any mainstream SSD, even the best one money can buy right now like 980 Pro, WD 850X or whatever else there is, the 8TB model has TB of 13.88PBW, thats 13 PETABYES, Mainstream SSDs usually has 1200Tbw and the best have 3200Tbw, this one has almost 14 Petabytes
  4. Im using these Ethernet cards, one on unRaid and second one on my main PC, they great and work fine. as far as IOMMU, im on z690, i wouldn't buy z790 since its probably not yet fully supported. Right now i cant run VM and getting strange errors, all i did was passing trought NVMe and iGPU and enabling them in VM and then it just doesn't work, i get strange errors. Maybe Z690 and z790 is not supported yet on unRaid I made a post with screenshots of the errors, if you want take a look HELP, cant create an empty VM to passthrough NVMe: VM creation error - Virtualizing Unraid - Unraid
  5. Hello, Im trying to create empty VM that uses passed through NVMe that has windows 11 on it, but i get this error internal error: qemu unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2023-01-03T01:17:01.313315Z qemu-system-x86_64: -device {"driver":"vfio-pci","host":"0000:00:02.0","id":"hostdev0","bus":"pci.0","addr":"0x2"}: Failed to mmap 0000:00:02.0 BAR 2. 6. So parity calculation doesn't need a lot of CPU power? If i run a VM and set all the P cores to Windows VM, leave the E just for unraid will that be OK too? What about RAM? Im thinking if i should use 64GB kit or sell it [I have used 5950x + 64Gb kit and mobo] Right now my unraid has 32gb. I want to use dircache without the option to free the used RAM, and i want to have windows 11 VM [already installed on nvme, so i heard i need to pass the NVMe to empty VM] and i want to eventually create a hackintosh VM [just for lols to see what it is about, to learn, maybe a linux VM also to learn and android VM if possible, ill never run more than one at a time], i installed extra 512GB SATA SSD to use for virtual disks for VM and windows 11 has its own NVMe so in theory should be enough. Also i want to remove the last HDD from my main build, for that i installed two 12Tb Segate NAS pro hard drive on unraid that i had in a bin, i plan to set them as BRTFS raid 0 and use as remote share for old games and emulators, my main PC has just about 20TB of SSD space so i cant afford to waste it on emulators and random crap And everything i want to do i want to somehow make the system power efficient, because im the only one that use it, so when i use ONE function all the rest go to "sleep". I see you know about VMs, i have no idea about that, do i need to lock CPU cores for VM or there is a way to have all cores available for everything, like unraid, dockers, and one VM [ill never use more than one VM at time] Or i have to lock/allocate cores for each separately? Thanks
  7. Intel z690/z790 doesn't have extensive CPU bifurication, if you want to use x4 devices in one x16 slot, buy 10700K or 10900K. z690 and z790 can do x8+x8, but it doesn't do x4/x4/x4/x4 Or you can buy AMD they do bifurication and high end boards even include extra M.2 to PCie card, i had x570 MSI creation and it came with a x8 card that had two m.2 slots You should go with 4TB SATA drives, that will get you speed, price and unlimited amount of space BTW if you want to stock up 4TB NVMe, WD 850x 4TB is 370USD on amazon USA right now, SUPER price [its newest model]
  8. Hello, I tried to search but i dont know what to search for Im looking for 2 plugins: 1. That can send urls to unraid to download files [so it must work with some downloader docker] Example of what im using for qBitorent on unraid + Electronet on windows, i see all my torrents in windows like if it was local and can send downloads to unraid. Im looking for something that can do the same with files. [preferably if it can be installed as plugin into web browser to intercept downloads automatically on windows and forward them to unRaid] 2. Something that can backup or sync between Cache and location on array, mainly for backup. There are many situations where you want fast storage, like creating RAID-0 cache from 2 HDDs and use it as remote storage for a gaming PC. But the unraid Cache settings like Prefer and Only do not leave a backup copy on the array [It should be an option, since its useful for many situations] Thank you
  9. Dont buy 64Gigs, never go above 32 Im using samsung Bar Plus 32gb, so far it works, but i rather just install to SSD and not even think about USB crap BTW unRaid says im just 480mb full, so in reality go with 2Gb-4gb USB if you have an old one, the only thing it installs to USB is plugins and i have like 30, all the important ones and the flash is just 480mb, so 32gb and even 16gb is wasteful, honestly i went with 32gb assuming it will be fast and will have longer life due to larger nand allowing more writes, but unRaid doesnt write anything to USB, like very minimal, plugins and settings and thats it https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-BAR-Plus-32GB-Champagne/dp/B07BPHML28
  10. Hello, This is just an idea, i don't know if its possible to make it work. Why its needed: Many UPS devices don't have USB connection or they use proprietary USB connection, I actually own a one of each device an APC UPS that has no USB and 1Kw UPS That only works on windows with their software. What is Virtual UPS? A driver that listens to connected Microphone. When you set up a "virtual UPS", you unplug the power cord from your UPS and let it start beeping, the driver will record a sample sound of the beeps. From that point the virtual UPS driver will be listening on the microphone for such beeps, when it detects them beeping longer than [user option] it will initiate a shutdown. Regards
  11. Hello, Please allow us to enable soft RAID0 for the array. Adding RAID0 + unRaid parity will allow people that want more speed to have their speed and stay on unRaid. People got used to unRaid and dont want to format and move to otehr soft like FreeNas. Having this as option wont have any negative effect on otehr users P.S. If you allow more than one array this will be an insane feature, RAID0 array for networked work & gaming and standard array for backup, all on one machine.
  12. You need to state actual Reasons, why having a new feature is BAD idea, how it will Affect your user experience in a |Negative way. Otherwise you just ranted that because you have a 5$ flash that works, no one should be able to install unraid to NVMe, which is BTW a basic option for every OS. The only reason unRaid goes on flash is due to security, but NVMe also have serial numbers, they can easily lock the program license to NVMe/SATA SSD/HDD serial number. I agree with the OP, using flash drives is outdated, cumbersome and idiotic, i rather install unraid to SSD and have the system folders part of the install like on windows, located in default location on the same drive, this way youll have SSD with unraid and all your docks, plugins and everything else on one drive I see no logical reasons to be against such feature, there is nothing no one can say that will make this into negative experience for otehr people
  13. Whats your exact problem?? Whats your spec and drive models?
  14. For now i have an unRaid, but every day im thinking if that was mistake and maybe trueNAS is ultimate build, especially when i found out that on idle it can spin down the drives Since i have tons of HDD's, way too many, I kep OG files on their original drives, if i feel to format to TrueNas i can do it, Ill have to re-copy everything again [60Tb total] I have everything setup already so switching to truenas will be time consuming, all left for me to do is run Defrag on all drives until it stop and says nothing to defrag and enable parity This is my build: 12400 CPU [HT disbaled] set to 50W in Bios [Board has 8 Intel SATA that share 2GB/s bandwidth] 32Gb of RAM iGPU 9200 card for 8 drives jmb 585 for 5 drives samsung 850 PRO [MLC] 512Gb "Vault" cache SSD: encrypted x4 Samsung 850 PRO 1TB [MLC] in RAID 0 brtfs as big normal cache drive Intel Enterprise 4TB 4500 U.2 as downloads SSD [I cant use HDD for downloads, too slow] x2 16TB Exos x16 for future Parity [not set yet] Storage array is exos x16 x8 14tb, x1 16tb and one 12Tb NAS wolf pro or something, all set to 4Kn native and some benchmark for 290Mb/s, the slowest does 240Mb/s [advertised speed is 160Mb/s, so im confused here] And i have like 3 or 4 exos x16 16TB kept as replacements, basiclly when 14tb dies it will be swaped for 16tb I have single 18Tb that im thinking to use as parity, instead of 16tb, so it will be one 18 + 16 and in future the 16tb parity can be upgraded to 18 I have 10-15 Shucked WD HDDs sized 12 to 14 and one 16, these are atrocious and i would never use them on unraid [true nas OK thou], unlike Seagete that has their Enterprise HDDs inside external boxes, WD has castrated Enterprise models with firmware that slows down the read/write speed, they spin at 7200 but do read write like 5900rpm So they very HOT, very slow, never hit 200 mb/s, Seagate owns them hands down. But if used for RAID, then its fine since you get speed boost from raid
  15. Oh i have the long key, whatever its called, when Bitlocker detects chnages it asks for it So what will be my steps? how do I do that Thanks
  16. Hello, Is there a way to take existing NVMe that has windows 11 [bitlockered] and Virtualzie it as unassigned device? I found someones comment on another thread when someone asked about hackintosh, that sounds like its possible: Thanks
  17. Hi, is there any guides on how to do that? I have NVMe with my windows 11 that when i need to use i unplug unraid usb and dual boot [its a backup PC so not happens very often] But if i can VM it and run it on unRAID that will be much easier and ill have a second PC running
  18. I run defrag with 6 hours command, but its been 12 and it doesn't stop. I have unraid without parity and 10 drives, i opend 5 Terminal windows and on each i run this command, just changing the HDD id xfs_fsr -t 21600 -v /dev/md5 what am i doing wrong?
  19. Thanks, i don't have parity right now, is there a way [command line?] to defrag all in parallel? Before i enable Parity i want all the drives defraged Thanks EDIT, OP i found a xfs defrag guide and it has a recommended settings, any opinions? /dev/xvda1 / xfs defaults,allocsize=512m 0 0 https://www.rootusers.com/how-to-defragment-an-xfs-file-system/ EDIT 2: script doesn't work on systems without Parity drives.[I have not set any parity HDDs, just set 2 empty slots for future use] This is what i get: /tmp/user.scripts/tmpScripts/Defrag v0.2/script: line 26: mdcmd: command not found Parity has device id Defragmentation has been skipped because of active parity disk
  20. Op, thanks for your work and the script. I have 2 questions. 1. what does defrag_only_sleep=1 mean? 2. When you say it will just defrag 2 hours, does it mean 2 hours each drive or 2 hours all of them in paralleled? And how i can defrag in parallel like in windows? whats the command that defrays all the HDDs at once Thanks
  21. This article mentions 10% boost https://www.bjonnh.net/article/20210721_nvme4k/ BTW, I use a software called Hard Disk sentinel on windows And it shows NVMe device info, and at the bottom of the list there is this: LBA Format List (Disk Performance😞 512 (Good), 4096 (Better) I guess ill have to make Ubuntu USB
