  1. Okay, I resolved the problem. I didn't include disk2 in the USER SHARES settings page, just the user share itself.
  2. The main page doesn't show this. Only the sizes of the individual discs.
  3. I also tried "disk1,disk2" (with no spaces) -- same problem. I am using 5.0 RC3.
  4. I tried stopping and starting the array and that didn't help. disk1 is 2TB and disk2 is 250GB. The USER share still shows as 2TB. I added disk2 to the included field. The included disks field looks like this: "disk1, disk2"
  5. Thanks for the reply. I have another quick question if you don't mind: Once I get the key and apply it to the flash device, can I then at a later date reformat the flash device, copy over a fresh copy of the unraid server to it, boot it up, and reapply that key?
  6. I just bought the Plus flash registration keys and was kind of expecting the keys to be e-mailed to me. Do I really have to wait for them to be "snail mailed' -- USPS -- to me?
  7. I don't see it and I've googled for it. Also, how do I format a drive from the command line on the unRaid box?
  8. --it seems so tempting to be able to have my NAS box do many other things. For those who have run it here, how do you feel about it? How has it performed for you?
  9. I did a fresh install of 5.0 rc3 -- my first unRaid setup ever -- and just added the brand new WD20EARX to the array and formatted it. It seems to be working fine. It automatically aligned to 4k blocks MBR. Is there anything special I should be doing for this drive before adding it like I did? Like a "preclear" or whatever? Can I add my WD20EARS and HD204UI (firmware updated to latest) the same way I added the WD20EARX or do I need to run any preclear on them as well? They are just sitting here waiting to be put it in. Thanks.
  10. Well I got my Prominent 9 and SS-500 yesterday. I am impressed with the quality of both. I only wish the plastic on the top of the case was a bit thicker or metal instead; if something dropped on it that was heavy I see it cracking. The SS-500 does look really nice in the case, but it was a pain to install it in this case, here's why: You have to bend down 8 little tabs inside the case, that hold up individual drives from the bottom, to be flush with the sides. Then when you slide in the ss-500, it's aluminum sides get all scraped up of course. Then I find the holes don't line up quite perfectly and have to drill out 8 screw holes with a bigger bit, then use washers to screw the cage to the case. I am really glad the left side of my case does not have one of those see through plexiglass windows, because the scrapes on the sides of the cages don't look good at all lol. Also, I had to vacuum out all the metal shavings from the bending, drilling and scraping. But from the outside of this enclosed case, the cage looks absolutely gorgeous in this case.
  11. Okay I figured out something. I disabled SMB on Tower and Enabled AFP. Then I exported disk1 to AFP. Then I was able to do an exremely fast write with Mac OS X to Tower. So it looks like for writes, Snow Leopard (at least) wants AFP and not SMB.
  12. I have three computers here.. one is the Tower and the other two both run Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 --which I'll call SL1 & SL2-- and one of these has a multiboot to Windows 7. Did some more tests: Windows 7 to Tower via SMB: fast reads and writes SL1 to SL2 via AFP : fast writes, fast reads SL1 (or SL2) to Tower via SMB: slow writes, fast reads SL2 to Windows 7 via SMB: slow writes (as well), fast reads. So it looks like something is wrong with SMB on Mac OS X with respect to writing. I get like 3MB per second writes. Doesn't matter if it is connecting to Windows 7 via SMB or Tower via SMB--same behavior. I have no clue what it is, sigh.
  13. I just setup my first unRaid server today--5.0 rc3. Anyways, when I copy a file from Windows 7, via SMB, to the Tower it's very fast; reads are fast as well. An 800MB file copied over to Tower in less than 10 seconds. However when I boot up Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on the same computer and transfer a file via SMB from it to Tower, I get VERY slow writes (about 4MB/s on average). The reads are fast at like 70MB/s. Any ideas? I have AFP turned off on the server. I had it turned on and used it but was getting the same slow writes with it.
  14. So this card actually supports up to 3tb hard drives? Does it only format them to 2.2tb?
  15. Has anyone here used the Prominent 9 with ss-500? How do you like it? I get mine tomorrow and will let ya know.
  16. I went with the prominent 9 because it was available for like $90. I would of liked to have gone with the Centurion 590 but I couldn't find one in stock. I personally prefer the clean, black straight lines.. rectangular.. I like the square corners on the 590 over the rounded ones on the prominent 9. But I think the prominent 9 looks pretty nice still.
  17. This card seems truly awesome. 8 sata ports on a pcie x8 bus. This should be pretty fast no? I can get one for like $35 shipped and the breakout cables for like $13 each. Why go with any other card, e.g. the supermicro... the supermicro is almost $100 and uses a slower bus--pcie x4. I plan on just using 2tb hard drives.. up to 12 of them (using the 4 onboard sata ports as well). Should I just go with this card? Will I notice any performance problems with it? Will i get a full 1gb/s transfer rate on reads, over my 1gb/s network? There must be some drawback to this card cause it's only $35!?
  18. Where did you get that rack? I want to buy one--preferbly a little taller if possible.
  19. Looking for some recommendations for a cache drive, and why you think it's a good drive for this purpose. Should I go for a 10k rpm SATA 6.0 gb/s? How about a 15k rpm if there is such a thing for sata-6?
  20. would it make sense to use a 10k rpm drive as a cache drive? or how about mirorred 10k rpm drives? EDIT: Oh, I see there are even 15k rpm drives available these days.
  21. Is it possible to use a little Raid 5 as the cache drive for unRaid? Say 3 x 500gb drives I have laying around. These would allow for some very fast writes no? And you'd have fault tolerance on that cache drive. I guess the only way this could be done is to use a hardware raid card?
  22. Copy the files over the network to your new array. Then wipe ur drive and add it to the array?
  23. I just bought a Norco SS-500 from Newegg the day before yesterday here in the U.S. I'll be getting it soon.
  24. Hello everyone, I am new here and have been researching NAS solutions for the past few days and found out about unRaid. unRaid seems to offer everything I want -- easy to administer scalable fault tolerant array. I've decided on a Prominent 9 case and a single Norco SS-500 5x3 cage, along with a Sandisk Cruz Fit; I'll be getting these parts in a couple days. I have a motherboard, cpu, ram that I wasn't making use of and will use it for this system. I also have the following hard drives: HD204UI (bought this for $79 from newegg over a year ago) WD20EARS (just bought off ebay used for $90) WD20EARX (recently bought new off Amazon) I have some questions about these drives. They all have their own peculiarities especially the WD20EARS. How would you configure these drives and what version of unRaid would you use? 5.0rc3 or 4.7? I can sell any of these drives if they are going to be problematic. The guy I bought the WD20EARS from on eBay said that this drive was never used in a raid and recommended not putting it in a raid because he said it "kills green drives". I am thinking it will be fine though with unRaid, no? Just tell me what I should I do please.. I can get rid of all these drives and buy better ones if I need to. I don't want to have performance problems or mess up the drives using them in a raid. Btw, before I used the HD204UI that I got about a year ago, I updated the firmware on it because I heard people were having some problems with corruption. Thanks! P.S. I see some Hitachi 5K3000 hard drives on ebay right now, new for $119 shipped. Should I just sell off the three I have now and buy three of these? I read here on the forums that they are highly recommended. However, I notice Newegg ratings only gave the drive 3 of 5 eggs, with lots of people saying they fail too soon. I also notice Newegg isn't selling them anymore. Please advise, thanks!
