  1. Hey you need to have High Sierra up and running I took my wife's laptop and wanted to get her stuff backed up and couldn't with catalina. When I did the update to High Sierra and followed the video it works perfectly. Yeah Man no problem. I think you need to have High Sierra for sure. Got it working when I updated my wife from catalina
  2. So my computer is running high sierra and I got it to run and work. My wifes is running catalina and it won't show up at all. Maybe I got lucky I am uploading High Sierra now on hers to see if thats the problem. I will report back. Just an FYI I did have to remove my existing disk for the new one to show up from Unraid

I just did it again and watched it come in as a ZIP and when it finishes it goes into folder status. How do I get you a zip file? I did re enter the file and its now up in the messages and all there from the folder if that helps
  6. I had a couple brand new ironwolf NAS drive show up and wanted to update my disk. I pulled the parity drive and replaced it and all went well. Rebuilt the array. Went back in after it was done stopped array added another one in disk 1 something happened and now its showing device disable contents emulated. I stopped the array did a preclear of the drive and woke up to it being done added it back in started the array and its still showing disabled contents emulated. The array is in a sync/data rebuild and its says its going to take 350 days...... I may have gone wrong in my steps as of right now it looks like i lost all my data some how its not a big deal at this stage in the game as my goal was to learn Unraid and only had on 100 gigs of movies to play with and some backed up files. Any ways whats going on with the disk? I have attached a copy of the smart report. ST8000VN004-2M2101_WKD11RF5-20200411-0556.pdf
  7. I only planning on running 3-6 drives.... So maybe hot swap setup for just run all to the board... No need for 16-24 disk if im running 12-14 Tb drives.... Ah I thought going 3-4 U would make things quieter bigger fans etc. Would doing a 2u be more thermally efficient and quiet? I am looking up your recommendations now! Good catch on the Ryzen. They make one with a GPU attached. I would use that instead. What CPU did you pair with your Gigabyte motherboard?
  8. honestly my concept was price and im not transcoding 4k..... Everything I read on the Plex forums wasn't not to transcode 4k. It takes a ton of processor and video card plus a ton of money here is the link for you to peak at. Plus you should have a really robust infrastructure for your home network... I am hardwired with a unifi setup and running Cat6 but im cheap. https://forums.plex.tv/t/info-plex-4k-transcoding-and-you-aka-the-rules-of-4k/378203
  9. Hey Gang I am going to jump in on the Unraid setup.... I will be using it to do backup of my computers 5-6 computers, family photos etc... NAS, I will also be using it as a Plex server I will not be transcoding 4k all 4k content will keep 4k content on a disk for the 4k blu ray player. I will be storing my movie collection on the Unraid, as well as running a few dockers and running a VM of windows. I won't be doing any gaming on the rig. Form factor will be in a 3-4U case. Give me as much feedback as possible as I have never done this or built a computer let alone a server.... Thanks in advance!
