  1. Good morning.............................5 hours before completion 😕 You said "Copy" was much faster? I can't imagine if I had selected "Move" Unless I have a problem somewhere???
  2. Hello, 10 years ago, I started looking into a solution for a central storage I did a quick test with FreeNAS and an old desktop, but it was not conclusive Then I found Unraid. After some basic test, I thought it was much better than FreeNAS. I didn't want to waste time with old stuff, so I purchased the cheapest mobo/cpu/memory I could find at this time (Sempron LE-1100) I ran Unraid 4.7 for years with that configuration and it was enough for my needs (vanilla server) But I switched to V5 then V6, and replaced my mobo/cpu very recently with something I had laying around (still old but slightly faster - Athlon X2 250 + 4GB Ram). I'm spending more time now with Plugins, and start to think I may want to "play" with VM (for Windows) So my question is: comparing score on CPU Benchmark, AMD (Ryzen) are cheaper for higher score.......But is it a good strategy anyway? Should I pay slightly more and go for a i5 8400 ($180 and CPU Mark 11,671) or go for a Ryzen 5 1600 ($125 and CPU Mark @ 12,267) or Ryzen 5 2600 ($150 and CPU Mark @ 13,502)? Note: I'm sensitive to power consumption...........does that mean I answered my own question and should pick an Intel ????
  3. Ouch....................it says ~19 hrs Speed is ~20 MB/s ! Is the array available anyway for streaming?
  4. ok, so let's go with a "copy" then.....I'll keep you posted Thanks
  5. OK, so do I just select "from" (D4-2TB and select all the shares) and then select "to" (D5-2TB), then click on Plan? And if there is no issue detected, I can unselect "dry run" and click on "Move"?
  6. OK, I will have to look at how the unBALANCE plugin works exactly.... Thanks for all your support
  7. It's clear, thank you.......I don't think this new arrangement will bother me at all One more question though: how do I copy from 1 disk to another one? Is it done thru the GUI? Do i need a specific plugin?
  8. But i have 3 x 1,5TB and 1 x 2TB data drives.... So if I use the old parity drive (2TB - xfs) as a temporary drive to empty each drive and format them as xfs, don't i need to coy back the content of each drive before doing the same for the next one?
  9. So I should copy the content of drive #1 to the newly formatted XFS drive, check everything is fine, then format drive #1 into XFS, and copy back data onto it And do this for all other drives Is that correct? How do I copy from 1 drive to another one actually? Thanks
  10. Old 2TB parity drive is now cleared and formatted. And I just did a backup of the flash drive. Again, thanks for the tip By the way, the 2TB drive was formatted in xfs, while all my other drives are reiserfs Is this OK?
  11. I'm watching videos from SpaceInvader One..... Can i install plugins (Community Applications) when a drive is being cleared?
  12. thanks for the tip..............I will make a backup once old parity drive is formatted
  13. So you're saying once the clearing of the old parity drive is completed, I should do a flash backup?
  14. I did a backup before installing the new 8TB But I didn't do it again before re-installing the former 2TB parity drive though......!!!
  15. OK, so old parity drive is now clearing.........it says 5 hours ! I really like the hot swap bays, it's so easy to switch/replace/add drives 😎
  16. I will check tonight when I come back home, but I assume the parity sync will be finished by then My next question is about the former 2TB parity drive to be now used as a data drive... Should I just install it, assign it and that's it? Is there any specific thing to do first (pre-clear, formatting, etc?) Thanks
  17. Good morning, 4.52TB (56.5%) after 11h38min......6hr11min to go But like you said, it's faster now (~155/160 MB/sec) when it was around 90 MB/sec at the beginning Once the parity sync/data-rebuild is completed, should I do a parity check, or it's not necessary?
  18. 1h15min......................400GB "hang in there".........................................😂
  19. The data drives (4) are 3 x 1.5TB and 1 x 2TB I will probably use the array tonight to stream a movie, but after that, nothing else until tomorrow night same time
  20. 30 min.............................and 2% It says approximately 22h34min left 😪
  21. I plugged the flash drive into my laptop and edited the go file (with notepad) Then took the current 2TB parity out, and installed the new 8TB And finally put the flash drive back in the server and started it up
  22. ok, I've installed the new 8TB red and parity is being rebuilt............0.4% right now (after 5 min) I've put a "#" in front of the line shutting down the server at 1:30 am in the go file, so it will keep running
  23. What is the best way to preclear in 6.6.5 then?
  24. Hello all, I've read many different things (always with a slight variant actually) on how to replace my current parity drive (2TB) with a larger one, brand new (8TB WD red) Is this the best method (assuming server is turned OFF): 1) Remove current 2TB parity drive and install brand new 8TB drive (I'm using hot swap bay) 2) Turn server ON 3) Stop array (if auto started) 4) Assign new 8TB drive to parity slot 1 5) Start array 6) Parity should automatically start to rebuild without doing anything special, is that correct? *) How long should it take for a 8TB drive? My motherboard is SATA II "only"....I'm asking because my server shuts down automatically every night (12:30am) with a command in the go file. So if the parity rebuilt is going to take quite some time, I want to make sure the server won't shut down before it's completed *) Does the array remains available when the parity is being rebuilt? 7) Once parity is rebuild, should I do a parity check? By the way, I'm using 6.6.5.................and I'm not planning to pre-clear (stress test) the new drive Thanks
