  1. Hi everyone, is it possible to mount more then 1 drive? Do i need to create another docker or can i use the same one?
  2. ok anyways i have given up and formatted the drive, because i am mostly experimenting at the moment, it only had 1 vm that will take me about 45 minutes to recreate
  3. ok i moved the drive back and it's still showing unsupported. i see its sdf now, how can i change it back to sda? what i am trying to do....i have a few extra drives, just busy testing if they can be added and needed the extra bays
  4. Hi everyone I am still trying to set up my server. So i had to move one of the drive to an external USB, didn't think it'll be an issue but now i am getting: Unmountable: Unsupported Partition Layout and: btrfs check -s 1 /dev/sda using SB copy 1, bytenr 67108864 Opening filesystem to check... No valid Btrfs found on /dev/sda ERROR: cannot open file system What happened? i can format the drive again but prefer not to....if i mount the drive i can access everything
  5. I am still a little confused on what to do with my SSD. all i want it to run some dockers and vm's, and for that i want the fast speed of ssd. whats the difference between cache and unassign ?
  6. is there an easy backup and restore?
  7. I am also busy googling , but moving vm's and dockers is just a matter of copying the appdata share? Not quite The 'appdata' share is where by default the variable data for dockers is stored so the statement is basically true for dockers. VMs on the other hand do not use that share. By default the vdisks for VMs are stored in under the 'domains' share but again users can over-ride where they are stored.
  8. thanks, gonna make my life slightly complicated, lol but i will manage
  9. Hi, every time i restart the server, i need to run chmod 777 /data for rclone mount to work (plex docker can read the folder) any idea how to automate this?
  10. Hi everyone, i originally bought my license in 2011. Since then i went through a lot of different operating systems, and last week i decided to try the new unRaid. I wasn't 100% sure it's the right OS for me, so i installed it on a spare NUC, installed vm's,dockers, and i am very happy with it. Now i need to migrate everything to my HP server. So i am going to start small, 1 SSD (for vm's,docker), 1HD for everything else. If i understand correctly, i the recommended way is: SSD as a cache drive, with vm's/docker HD for media and whatever as part of the array. I thought the cache drive stores files temporarily and then move to array, i am guessing there is an option to disable that? The actual move, can i just move the flash drive and do a simple copy (of the vm's and containers) from the current ssd to the server's ssd? one last thing and i think thats the trickiest ....my data drive is currently btrsf , synology ,none raid 8TB.if i understand correctly i can mount it as unassigned, BUT can i make it the array without formatting?that can be a big help or i should rather keep it unassigned until i can afford (probably not soon...) a parity. i am also not TOO stressed about the parity. sorry about the long message...lol
  11. Quick update, i shutdown the server, removed the old drive, added the new drive, did a new configuration and everything work! Thanks again for the help and for the concern about my data. Like i said, i am enjoying the JBOD configuration at the moment, and if one drive will fail on me it wont be the end of the world as not the all array will fail...+.i backup my important data.
  12. Thanks everyone for the help. Gonna try it tonight. Helmonder, how is external usb going to work better then a 6TB nas? not sure i understand your question. The original plan was to get a 2TB drive for parity and then the prices went sky high...i was very unlucky. i will get that 2TB one day and will have my array protected, but for now i am running out of space so, just gonna replace a 250GB with 500GB.
  13. when i asked about the existing data, i meant the data on the other drives(2TB,2TB ,1.5GB and 320GB)...i obviously do not want an empty array.
  14. Hi everyone, At the moment my unraid setup does not include a parity drive, so my array is not protected, I would like to replace one of the drives (250GB) with a 500GB, i deleted all the information off the 250GB. Do i need to do a "new configuration"?what does it actually mean? will i loose all my shares?will unraid detect the existing data? thanks, Bar1
  15. Will i get better performance from NFS? or not necessary ? it just make sense (to me anyway) that if the 2 machines are linux...i should use NFS
  16. yes, i guess i could do that...any other solutions? Don't really want to rename all my shares.
  17. Hi everyone, I decided not to use Samba with my new set up. I have an UNRAID box and a raspberry PI running XBMC. I enabled NFS on the shares and now i have 2 problems. 1) XBMC immediately see the NFS , which is great.however, it sees the IP address, i am running DHCP and i need it to detect the hostname 2) I seems to have a problem with share with a space, for example TV shows, is only being seen by XBMC as TV and i am unable to browse the files I checked /etc/exports on unraid and all seems correct. Any advice?
