  1. No I haven't. But I just installed and will try it out. Thanks!
  2. I have been battling for months with my disks spinning up and I don't know why. Both Parity disks are spinning up and disk 4 is spinning up. Whenever I look at my server those 3 disks are spinning and I cannot figure out why. I am not as smart as you guys when it comes to figuring this stuff out. Can anybody please help me? I completely uninstalled Plex docker and I thought I got rid of all traces of plex on the UnRaid box. I am going to let my desktop be my Plex server and just access the mapped network drives. I have plex on my desktop set to not update the library automatically. Do mapped drives keep smbd open all the time? I assume something is writing but I cant figure it out. I think the drives spin down once in a while but I think its rare. Attached log, and snap shot of open files. Any help is SUPER appreciated. tower-diagnostics-20161025-1926.zip
  3. Ok Well I turned off Plex on the Unraid box (I don't really use that one because it loads my CPU too much) and spun the disks down. They have stayed spun down now for several minutes. I will keep the Plex docker off for several days and see if my problem goes away or is reduced. Plex is the only Docker I have and I don't really use it because it struggles sometimes. I installed Plex server on my desktop and use it as the main Plex server because its 6 core i7 handles the transcoding much much better.
  4. No it says Pre-Fail. Good point I never thought about it running out of sectors to reallocate. Ill scrap the disk. Thanks!
  5. And there it goes again. Just in the time I wrote that last post all but 1 disc spun back up and I have no idea why.
  6. Ok guys I need help. I guess I am just too stupid to figure out how to troubleshoot this issue. Now it seems every time I look at my server since upgrading to 6.3 ALL discs seem to stay spun up. I can look at my "open Files" app, manually spin down all drives, look at "open Files" again and nothing changed. Come back hours later and drives are spun up again yet I did nothing to the array and havent accessed any files. This server is 99% used for movie storage and Plex accesses a share called MoviesMKV. Is there something in the log that I can look for that will actually tell me WHAT commanded the discs to spin up? I just dont understand how to troubleshoot this issue. My PC has "movies" and "moviesMKV" shares mapped as a network drive but I am not opening the folder on my PC. Does plex just running on my PC as a server constantly wake up the drives? (my desktop is WAY more powerful than my Unraid machine so I use my desktop as my Plex server and it accesses MKVs over the network via mapped network drive). I am talking about being gone to work all day long and coming home to find all my drives spun up and nobody has watched anything on Plex.
  7. Would you guys trust this drive? Kept getting reallocated sector counts increasing on a 3TB Segate drive. Pulled it out, put a new drive in place, rebuilt array, etc. Started running preclears and over the course of like 6 cycles the reallocated sector counts kept going up and up and up. Stopped around 1500 reallocated sectors. I've run another 10 or so preclear cycles and it hasn't budged. Power on hours is over 38k hours, reported incorrect is 11. I have dual parity. Would you guys try rerunning this drive or dispose of it? No trees were harmed in the sending of this message, however, a significant number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.
  8. which suggests a couple of things. Firstly, not long after spinning down it's being spun up again. Secondly, the two parity disks (Disk 0 and Disk 29) are following the same pattern, which suggests that the process waking up the drive is a write. I see you have the global default spin down delay set to 30 minutes and your individual disks set to this default. Try changing it to 1 hour or 2 hours to prevent this behaviour - it's generally believed that it's better for disks to spin continuously than to spin up and down repeatedly. Then investigate what it writing to Disk 4 so often. Thanks! I changed the default spin down to 2 hours as suggested thanks. Sorry for the really newb question but how do I figure out what is writing to disk 4 so often?
  9. Hi, I am sorry this is a novice issue but I cant figure it out. I have issues where my Disk 4 stays spun up all the time it seems like as well as both parity disks. I suspect something with either Plex, or something on my network is constantly waking up that disk. Fix common problems doesn't show any issues or warnings. I have Folder Caching installed but its defaulted. I am attaching diagnostics, and system log if anybody could help me figure out how to get my disks to spin down when not in use that would be awesome. Thanks! 10. No I didn't That did the trick. Everything worked exactly as you described. As always thanks for your help. The knowledge you guys on this forum have is amazing to me.
  11. Thanks for the response. I have precleared the 2 drives again and added them to the cahe pool did I need to do anything specific to balance the cache? I followed the steps. I tried step 3 to remove the origional and it is telling me the drive is busy. In part of your write up it says to make sure that everything says Single. Mine says RAID 1. Do I need to change this? btrfs filesystem df /mnt/cache Data, RAID1: total=32.00GiB, used=17.11GiB System, RAID1: total=32.00MiB, used=16.00KiB Metadata, RAID1: total=1.00GiB, used=36.47MiB GlobalReserve, single: total=16.00MiB, used=0.00B
  12. Tried swapping out 2 old cache drives for 2 (less old) 10k 500GB velociraptors. I used the proceedure in this link http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/Un-Official_UnRAID_Manual#Replace_the_cache_disk Seemed as though all went well but noticed my Plex docker would not work. UnRaid kept saying dockers not started and I could not get them to start. Noticed my log had all kinds of errors. Stopped the array, and re-assigned my old cache drives (still in the case). Now everything works again. Any advice? Attaching diagnostic. Thanks guys. tower-diagnostics-20161025-1926.zip
  13. I was able to get it back to working by installing and modifying the preclear script as described in this post http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=13054.1305 Edit: actually I thought it was working. It's still not working for me and I don't know why. Only way I can currently preclear is if I screen in and do it the old way preclear_disk.sh /dev/sdx
  14. Is this the case? I am on 6.2 and the pre-clear hanges on the read process and will not allow me to cancel. Have to reboot the server.
  15. Very sorry I didnt get a notification that you replied to me. The APC UPS daemon just won't communicate with it no matter what I try. After reading your suggestion about USB 3.0 I disconnected it from the 3 port and installed it into the last 2.0 port I have. After messing with NUT some more now it seems to be communicating. If not I will report back. Thanks a bunch! BTW, there are probably more USB2 headers on your MB. All you need is one of those brackets with USB sockets that include the wiring harness to connect to those headers to add a couple of more ports. Yea you're right. Which reminds me I wanted to relocate my flash drive to the inside of the chasis Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk

  17. Hi. I have a 3TB seagate that I replaced with a 4TB. I ran 3 cycles of preclear on the old drive and it sat for a month or so and now I am adding it back to the array. When I assigned it to the array it gave me a file system error and showed as unmountable. I don't know why but since I knew it didn't have data on it and didn't care I clicked format. Then it allowed me to add it to the array and shows like its available as the system is showing the full 20TB server capacity. But it is not writing to this disk, and when I go into a specific share it is not shown as an available disk. Disk 1-5 are shown, but not the new (reused) disk which is now disk 6. I completed a parity check with the new drive in, no errors. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Andrew
  18. I have a Tripplite smart500RT1U rackmount UPS plugged into my UnRAID server via USB and Im getting this message in my log every 5 seconds. Of course this makes my logs unbearably large. Jun 21 22:14:50 Tower upsmon[11569]: Poll UPS [ups@localhost] failed - Driver not connected I have NUT installed and I have it set to Tripplite_usb. Is this not compatible? I got a VERY good deal (free) on 2 of these rackmount UPS's and just had to install batteries. I may just have to go back to the trusty APC box and put it on a shelf. Life was so simple with the APC. It just worked. Any suggestions? Thanks, Andrew
  19. Thanks for responding. Tried those things. Nothing helped. The issue is REALLY bad today that's why I tried to spend some more time. Only using 1 switch now and switched it out with another and it did not help. I did not play with the Cache yet but disabled NIC flow control and NIC offload. I have noted some errors logged in the network window on the dashboard. How do I go about troubleshooting them? My log is FULL of UPS errors I guess I cant figure out how to get my tripplite rackmount UPS to work. Might have to use an APC. Ill attach a diag file I got before rebooting. Edit: I deleted my SMART files to make the zip folder attachment below the 192 KB limit. tower-diagnostics-20160530-1913_2.zip
  20. No I don't. Sorry. I will look it up though and try to get this resolved. I forgot about this issue and it is still keeping discs spun up way more than they should be. Thanks, Andrew
  21. Man I've been away from here a while. I still have the issue and it happens using Plex too. Intel 1000 card did not fix my issue. I believe its V6 that is causing it but I am nowhere near smart enough to figure it out and I don't think I can go back to V5. Not sure what I will do at this point but it sure is frustrating. Really odd that eliminating a switch seemed to help, but not solve the problem. I need to get back into trying to trouble shoot the issue further. I may make myself a 150' cat 5 cable and run it directly to the server and eliminate ALL switches just so I can be sure it's an UnRaid problem and not one of my switches. I would even be willing to try another network media player but the fact that Plex on Xbox One has the same symptoms makes me believe it's not a issue with just the Dune
  22. Here you go. Thanks for the help! Looking forward to fixing this.
