  1. I've precleared 5 of these 4TB puppies at once using the same mainboard as you know, with only 2GB of memory. No problem. I would suspect the SATA contoller is just not up to the challenge. I would replace it with a Supermicro SAS2LP or an IBM 1015.
  2. Just an idea... would it be possible to overcome the relatively slow parity disk, by creating a 2nd unraid array consisting of let's say, 10 or 20 SSD's packed together, and use THAT 2nd SSD-array, as the 'parity disk' for 'classic' disk array nr 2? (i'm not talking costs here )
  3. Thats consistent with my experience with this drives as well. I even think the Hitachis report a higher temperature then it actually is, or unraid/smart is mistaken, because if you take the drive out and let it cool down to room temperature, lets say 21C, and put it back in the machine, it immediatly reports a temperature of about 31C... you would say it would take a while to warm up a bit?
  4. If i take a look at the google repository i see a lot more plugins then there are on the start topic page. Is there some description about what each plugin is supposed to do? Do you have some support website other then this topic where more info can be found? I'm curious about what the 'folder caching' plugin does, en why there are 2 extra (?) webservers, one is called PLG, what does that mean? How do we use the Itunes plugins?
  5. I've unassinged the parity disk for now, and copying directly to the disk share in stead of the user share, that way i get speeds up to 70MB/s Once everything is transferred, i'll assign the parity disk again and do a total parity build up. Work in progress, filling the server... still some 6TB left to do.

    Backup Power Supply

You can order it from The APC website directly...
  7. Not in that machine, but i'm used to disks running about 28-30C in my Windows PC.
  8. I'm running with 6 of those at the moment, for about a week now. No problems so far, using unRAID v5.0-rc5 on a Supermicro SAS2LP-MV8. The disks are getting a bit warmer then i was expecting, about 40C, but this offcourse is also depending on the used enclosure etc.
  9. I can't add users using the 'Users' tab. Looks like they're not saved. Pushing add or done doesnt do anything. Also, on the 'Shares' tab, there is no way to setup user permissions for a share, like the unRAID manual shows, or does it show up when there are more users than just 'root'?
  10. Well that is pretty cool Yesterday i was busy filling up my first drive out of 5 with series and movies, and when it got over the 50% mark, it indeed continued the copying of a new movie on disk2. And when i added another season on a series that was allready on disk1, it continued there, but adding a new series was done on disk2. Nice to see it work very powerfull system. Still, calling it 'splitlevel' is confusing IMHO. When you split something, it basically forms multiple 'branches'. But in this case, it's the other way around. If i set a splitlevel of 2, everything after that is not split, it is kept together... the stuff before and including the splitlevelfolder, is split or spanned over multiple disks. I guess it's just how you look at it.
  11. I'm doing this myself at the moment as well, i unassigned the parity disk for the time being. But the speeds arent't that much higher, it won't get over 50MB/s.
  12. No, there are no extras running... the speed seems erratic at times. Sometimes it even goes up as high as 40MB/s, and not for just a second but for like 10 or 20 minutes. If i start a new copy after that, it's at 30-32 again... or even lower. Or higher. Weird.
  13. I dont get it; after a reboot speed is down to 14MB/s... wtf...
  14. Windows 7 64bit Home Premium version.
  15. Reading speeds from the array to a windows pc start at 100MB/s but quickly slow down to about 58MB/s and stay there. I do have jumbo frames (4088 bytes) on the Windows pc, not sure about unRAID.
  16. Writing to a protected unRAID array from a Windows 7 machine over GB network. Will try some read speads later.
  17. All precleared, now experementing with copying, split levels etc. Transfer speed (no cache) fluctuates a bit but at the moment is a constant 36MB/s, which is pretty good if i compare to others
  18. Ok, so in this particular case, since season 2 was allready allocated on disk1, it stays on disk1 (cuz' its kept together forced by splitlevel), even when the high watermark is reached by adding episodes halfway the season, but if i would create a new season 3 folder, and add episodes to it, that would be created on disk2.
  19. There is something i still don't really understand when using this scenario. Lets say we're using 2 disks, and we're collecting E.R. episodes using highwater. Initially you have created a user share, which is on disk1 of a 2 disk system (for sake of the example) and you allready have some seasons/episodes in there, so: disk 1 : has a structure with user share described as above (/tvshows/ER/season1/s01ep01.mkv etc disk 2 : still empty.. Now when you start collecting ER episodes, the system will use the high water allocation method and starts filling up disk1 until it's 50% full if i'm correct. My question is, what happens if the 50% is reached? Is the folder structure from disk1 automatically replicated on disk2? And will the system then transparantly save your ER episodes to the structure on disk2 in a season folder, until that one is filled up 50%? Furthermore, using split level 2, the seasons folder is 'kept together as a whole on one disk'. But what if in this example, i've allready got 10 episodes of season 2 on disk 1, and with the 11th episode, the 50% highwater level is reached? Will unraid MOVE the complete season2 folder to the next disk, since the season folder is split level2 and should be kept together?
  20. Ah ok, this references to the same stuff as the SimpleFeatures' scheduled parity check then? Is that normal procedure, to check this right after you've just had it calculated?
  21. I've just configured my first unRAID server using 6 4TB disks. Now unMenu gives the following message: "STARTED, 6 disks in array. Parity is Valid: Last parity check 15538 days ago with no sync errors" I've created the parity this morning, not 15538 day ago (which is a LONG time btw)... is the counter ok? Can i reset it somehow?
  22. If i add just ONE data disk to my system, so no parity disk etc, the simplefeatures view shows the status "Array of two protected disks". See attached screenshot. Not even is my array not protected, there is only one physical disk.
