  1. I just ran across this on a search: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=21975.msg194785#msg194785
  2. You might look at the SNAP plugin too: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=18046.0 Someone was saying on the last page you have to edit the plg to grab the new version though. Now that I'm thinking about it... my unraid server is in a closet and I'd prefer not to go in there and swap cd's around the whole time. I'll probably see if one of my Raspberry Pi's will be up to the challenge later. Or I could always just use the mac. But what is the fun in that? Maybe I need to build a lego robot.....
  3. Is this just one bluray you want to rip and share over the network? I know Unmenu has a shareiso feature. If you can get the thing down to an iso to begin with you could probably use that to share it over the network.
  4. Not easily I don't think. I mounted a USB DVD drive once so it must be possible. How good are your linux skills? I was thinking about hooking up the external dvd drive again and finding a program that would automatically rip my cd's for me tonight. If I do I'll try to document everything, and if you get something going before I do let me know. Or is this an internal drive you're talking about?
  5. What are you trying to do with your collection? Keep them on one hard drive or split the two folders between 2 drives? I'd start with a search like "high water movies" or something like that. Or maybe rtfm http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/UnRAID_Manual#User_shares_2 You'll probably get more info from starting there.
  6. Thanks RobJ! I will take a look at that. Good idea
  7. I assumed when I installed 4GB of ram PAE would kick in and I would see 4GB but top is showing me "3366428k total". I've never really dealt with PAE so I'm not sure what to do or if that is even my problem. I'm running 5rc11 with andECS - 945GZ/CT-M board and Intel® CoreTM2 Duo CPU E4500 chip.
  8. Plus the usb sticks themselves are worth $75 new. So he's out of pocket about 195 euro. Who knows, maybe not such a bad deal for someone who needs 3 pro keys
  9. if we're talking mac I gotta go with Textmate, plus it's open source now so you can compile it yourself or find someone who has compiled a binary already. Or pay for it and support the developer
  10. I'd like to know what constituted non use. Do I have to log into it every day or is it ok if I have a webserver running on it and that counts as use or what? Who's up for writing a script or package or something that logs into the vps everyday and does something so we never lose the free accounts?
  11. I have zero verified referrals but I saw this: Free Chunk 128 128MB 3GB 35GB your plan now Free Chunk 256 256MB 5GB 75GB + 2 more needed Free Chunk 512 512MB 10GB 150GB + 6 more needed Free Chunk 1024 1024MB 20GB 300GB + 14 more needed Free Chunk 2048 2048MB 30GB 600GB + 30 more needed
  12. I used Talsit's and here is mine. Thanks for the heads up tritron. http://chunkhost.com/r/pinion Edit:
  13. Do you have ssh set up on your server? Should just be, ctrl-alt-t then root@unraid, or whatever your server name is. root@tower maybe? Or the ip address, [email protected] (or whatever it is for you). Perhaps you never had ssh set up at all but instead you were telneting in with putty? Do you have unmenu installed? You can install openssl and openssh from the package manager in that, or at least check to see if they're installed. but I believe telnet is enabled by default.
  14. It took a few days for them to respond to my email. This was maybe 2 weeks/ week and a half ago. They told me they'd added me to the list and it would probably be about mid April when they could fulfill my order. Although I'm debating just getting a 12 bay server since I only have 6 drives anyway....
  15. I just ran across this and thought I'd update in case you're following the topic. wget http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware-13.0/patches/packages/irssi-0.8.15-i486-1_slack13.0.txz Then you can installpkg irssi.... I cp mine to /boot/extra so it now installs when I reboot. I'm not sure if I have something else installed that fulfills a dependency or if it's compiled differently but it works for me. If you try it let me know if it worked or not for you.
  16. I went ahead and stopped it. That drive was definitely making a grinding noise. Powered back up and it started the array and restarted the data rebuild like I was thinking it would. So to answer my own question: stopping the data rebuild in my unique case was ok. I certainly wouldn't risk stopping the parity copy during a swap-disable procedure though.
  17. Holy cow, and I was just playing around with this myMain plugin in unmenu and saw my old parity drive said " load_cycle_count=217357". That seems really really high based on a small amount of googling. Is that because WD is trying to save energy or something? Should I be worried. I certainly probably should have created a new post... EDIT: It's a WDC WD20EARX-00PASB0. I'll search around once I'm done playing with this kid.
  18. I just did swap disabled on a drive and put in a larger 3TB drive in place of a failed one, and the 3TB was bigger than parity so I swapped them. Copying parity worked great (rc-11). Now I'm rebuilding data to the old parity drive (new data drive). The disk that was failing doesn't show up in an fdisk -l anymore and also I can't see my cache drive for some reason. It probably wasn't there when I started the array and I just wasn't paying attention. Well something is making an awful noise in the box and I was wondering if it would be ok for me to stop the rebuild, shut the box down, and remove the bad hdd. Then start it back up and start the data rebuild again. There's nothing on that hard drive I'd be devastated to lose. But if it's going to come back up and not let me start a rebuild again I don't want to do that. But I also don't want a hdd seizing up inside there. What do you all think?
  19. Then what's the point of the dual 12 v channels? Are you saying they share a total of 18A? Edit: Sorry about the shortness of this. It seems kind of rude now that I reread it but I was on the ipad. Which also means I didn't read your post all that well to see the other rail was for the PCIe connector. Ok ok, I see. I had another psu laying around, I should go find it and see if it's any better. I can't even recall where it came from. Should I go ahead and post my smart status or something to see if there's a link between low power and my write errors? I assume I've lost the unraid log from when it red balled.
  20. jonathanm: That's right, Didn't PSU's used to have multiple rails but it was better to have everything on one rail so that you knew the same amount of power was available to everything? I have 5 drives, 3 1.5TB Seagates, a 2TB WD, and a small 2.5" 160GB drive I threw in there to play with cache (which I'm liking the cache drive) The Power Supply is a Cooler Master RP-650-PCAR: http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=45 Looks like the reviews at newegg aren't so hot... It's been working great for me for awhile though.
  21. Next generation of Unraid? I'm on RC-11 or whatever it is. Is that what you mean? Step 1) I can do this even with a dead (disabled) hard drive right? As long as the array is up like what Automatic is talking about? Step 2) ok Step 3) So basically, if you have a system with a ton of drives, you should just be prepared to replace the failed drive or risk data loss... So a warm spare as a cache drive would probably do me good. As opposed to the 160GB cache drive I'm using now I should just use something the same sized as my parity drive. jonathanm: I have these seagate 1.5tb drives that seem to die on me all the time. One just got rma'd and the replacement keeps getting write errors and needs to be replaced. I've swapped the sata cable, used a different rail for power, and plugged it into a pci sata card instead of the mobo but it still get's right errors after a week or so and get's disabled. How often should I do these parity checks to check for errors? Monthly? Weekly?
  22. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/FAQ#How_do_I_remove_a_hard_disk_that_I_do_not_plan_on_replacing.3F I guess the real question is if a drive fails can I just get rid of it and have the data rebuilt onto existing drives (if there's enough space)?
  23. Thanks guys! Even at $300 what a sweet freakin deal. I went ahead and emailed them last week and got an email tonight from the guy that forwarded it to another guy asking him to respond to me in the morning. I'll go ahead and get my name on the list and pray the wife doesn't kill me when I pull the trigger. I have a spot in the basement that would work out great for this.
