  1. Thank you. Yes, I have all my BIOS power up options disabled - only the power button will turn it on. Also, I'm aware of the "not really turned off" power down, but in my situation, lights are still on, fans still spinning, water pump still pumping, but no video signal, no network connection - as if it's on its way down and is hanging on something - it's actually ending up in the same state it's in when I log off the GUI console (original problem.) Some additional info re: "not powering down completely" from the GUI console - If I do it from the web interface, it powers down everything as expected - except, of course for the keep-warm circuits. It's only when it's powered down from the GUI console that the machine stays powered up after unRAID closes down. This MB's BIOS is UEFI, and I'm not familiar enough with it to know if I'm fighting against it or not. Settings I'm used to finding are not there or not where I'd expect them to be. The BIOS has worked perfectly, untouched, for the several years I used the machine as a Windows 7, 10 PC. Maybe I'll just make it headless or stop using the GUI console. Or maybe I'll keep trying to figure it out. That sounds like a better path. At least until the trial license expires. Thanks, again.
  2. FYI, on the Community Apps tab, the description for the S3 Sleep app has part of the Active Streams description mixed in.
  3. I've been using unRAID since 3.6 and have built up 4 servers along the way - mostly using my old computers. I built my first 6.6.7 server last month as a replacement for two 5.x servers full of 2TB drives and running on Celerons with 2GB RAM (time to upgrade, huh?) The new 6.6.7 server is mostly 10TB drives running on a motherboard with 4 SATA ports (requiring two SATA HBAs to feed the full array) and not much else, so I'm going to move it to some better (still older) hardware. I'm using a trial license to test the new hardware and preclear a few disks. I do NOT have an array defined - just using the apps and Tools. Here's the problem (well, two, actually): When I log out of the GUI console, unRAID appears to lock up -- the MBs HDMI video signal shuts down (instead of going back to the login-window) and the server disappears from the network (ping fails though the blinking light on the net connector port still shows something is active.) The disk activity light is still lit (likely from the preclear), but resuming preclear after a reboot indicates no further "clearing" activity was accomplished during the "lock up." If I bring up the server with the non-GUI console, logging off does not cause the problem - only when exiting the GUI. Reboot is the only way I've found to restore the connections. Here's the specs on the hardware I'm testing with: unRAID system: unRAID server Trial, version 6.6.7 Model: Custom Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. - Z87-DELUXE Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz HVM: Disabled IOMMU: Disabled Memory: 16 GB (max. installable capacity 32 GB) Network: bond0: fault-tolerance (active-backup), mtu 1500 eth0: 1000Mb/s, full duplex, mtu 1500 eth1: not connected Kernel: Linux 4.18.20-unRAID x86_64 OpenSSL: 1.1.1a P + Q algorithm: 21085 MB/s + 32449 MB/s Another slight problem which may be related: When I Power Down from the GUI console (using the GUI button), the unRAID server shuts down as expected, but the PC does not. In the MB BIOS, there are power settings for what to do when power is "restored", but nothing about powering down. Does the lack of a defined array have anything to do with what I'm seeing? While I'm not new to unRAID, I only ever used it store stuff and stream video, and have only recently begun using 6.6.7, so there may be some settings I'm missing - though, as I mentioned, my working 6.6.7 server doesn't have any of these problems. I'd sure like to track this lock-up-on-logout problem on the newer hardware before I move my array to it. Thanks for any insight (or solutions) you can provide.
  4. This is an old topic, but in case someone is searching for a problem with Windows suddenly demanding a password to access a network drive or networked computer... Note: I'm running two unRAID NAS towers and I'm using public access for all my shares on both unRAID towers and everything is behind a good firewall. Today I updated both of my unRAID servers from 4.7 to 5.0. Very smooth update, BTW, except that one of my PCs could no longer access the shares on the first tower. Windows demanded a username and password every time I tried to access but nothing seemed to make it work. My other PCs could access this tower and I could access the second tower from all my PCs including my "bad" PC. Also, the web tool for both the towers worked just fine from my "bad" PC. I googled for a solution but nothing seemed to fit this situation and none of the suggestions worked. Finally I found a hint and went to Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Manage Your Credentials and under the Windows Credentials was an entry for the first tower. Not sure how it got there, but I removed it and unfettered access to my first tower was restored. Robert
  5. Thornwood, you never had jumper problem with that particular drive. You "fixed" a problem you didn't have. Most EARS drives work perfectly well after adding that jumper. Aparently, your drive was one of those. Some EARS drives had buggy firmware and have problems if you install the jumper after the drive has been used. That wasn't your case. Joe L.'s preclear script does exactly the same thing as that so called "low-level format" -- writes zeros to every sector of the drive. Perhaps he really didn't have a problem, but I have 3 out of 5 WD20EARS drives that work without the jumper, but show I/O errors with the jumper in place. UnRaid hangs on boot, eventually coming up. Preclear_disk.sh just flashes I/O Error and refuses to try to clear the disk and Windows XP wouldn't even recognize the drive to partition it. My fault, I guess, for testing my incoming new drives by first using Windows quickly put a partition on them. According to another post in this thread, the drives will not work with a jumper after Windows has a go at the unjumpered drive. This appears to be true in my case - how else to explain 3 out of 5 drives DOA (with the jumper). I'd already RMA'd one drive for this problem and it's replacement was doing the same thing. Yet I already have two AF drives in my array working just fine. Maybe I didn't bring them up on Windows first - can't remember. Rather than RMA three more drives, I used the low-level format tool Thormwood used and ran it against one of the bad disks with the jumper in place. I skipped all the rest of his process -- creating a Windows partition and formatting -- just popped it back into my NAS, and it's working great! Preclear_disk.sh is running on it now - to exercise it and get it ready for the array. It took around 6 hours to do the low-level format (or whatever it's doing - perhaps just writing zeros to the entire drive), but it saved me yet another RMA for an AFD drive and I'm a happy camper for that. Perhaps all I had to do was use WD Diagnostics tool to write zeros to the first and last parts of the drive - I'll try that first on the next "bad" drive in my inventory, but it's nice to know that I can "fix" my non-problem and save myself some considerable time, postage and ill feelings from Amazon and NewEgg. Thanks, Thormwood! Robert
  6. I took advantage of the offer and am very pleased. New WD20EADS for $139, shipped free and quickly. I also bought a Masscool eSATA dock for $25 (free shipping) that works great even with drives in excess of 1 TB. Robert
  7. Just bought it. $169, changed to $149 when I joined the club and added it to my cart. Changed again to $139 when I applied the SUBSCRIBER coupon during checkout. Thanks for the heads-up, ohlwiler ! Robert
  8. I got my key (primary and backup) very quickly. I never received any reply at all to my original questions about purchasing one of the server configurations advertised on his web site. So I built my own. I've finally maxed out at 26 terabytes, easier to do now that 2 TB drives can be found for $139. 15 drives - 13 data, 1 parity, 1 cache -- all the drives my case can hold. Robert
  9. Thanks for the info. I never heard back from my various attempts to contact Tom and LimeTech about buying a server from him. So my money went to New Egg this morning for all the individual pieces of his MD-1510/LC server. - I actually saved a few hundred over the cost of a completed system -- some components are on sale and most have free shipping - at least they did this morning. I'll very likely buy an unRaid Pro key once I get the hardware all set up and working with the free version. I'm hoping the key sales are automated, so I don't have the same problem I had buying a key that I had trying to buy a server. I have to admit I've been a bit disappointed with my experience so far, but I have a lot of good will for the UnRaid Server OS project, and the obviously helpful folks on this forum. I see all the effort that went into making this whole thing work and keep it working and I'm very encouraged. I'm looking forward to a short, successful build and a long, successful up-time. Also hope to be able to contribute here. When I'm not watching movies or listening to music on my new unRaid server. Robert
  10. Thank you. I will try his direct email. Sorry to take up forum space for a personal matter. I hope to be able to make a more useful contribution in the near future. Robert
  11. [i'm new here (just look at my icon) and I assume from reading the forum that "Tom" is the owner of Lime Technology. Let me know if I've assumed wrong.] I'm considering buying a server from Lime Tech to replace an old one I put together a year or so ago and I used the Lime Tech Company/Contact web page to send a question about shipping vs. pickup. I haven't heard back in several days. Is Tom on vacation? Is Lime Tech closed? Is the web page mailer broken? (there's no indication that anything is actually sent.) Am I too impatient? Thanks for listening. Robert
