  1. What makes you think it is UR. Have you installed kodi on another machine and duplicated the symptoms?
  2. Followed the instructions above, and everything appeared to go ok. I'll know after the next plex update. As part of the initial install, I set the config including a custom port, hit the apply button and everything started ok. I looked at the cfg file and it was set as USEPORT="no" PORT="31845". I manually edited the Plexmediaserver.cfg after the install to set the USEPORT parameter to yes and saved and verified it was saved with the edit. So it looked like this USEPORT="yes" PORT="31845" and then shut down and restarted the server. After the restart, the custom port check box was not set in the plex settings page. When and looked at the CFG file and it was back to USEPORT="no" PORT="31845". I made this check after the plugins were started. On the setting page I ticked the check box, the port was set correctly and hit the apply button. Plex restarted and used the custom port as specified. Looked at the CFG file and it was at USEPORT="yes" PORT="31845". Shutdown and restarted the server and looked at CFG file and it was set as USEPORT="no" PORT="31845", edited the CFG file to USEPORT="yes" and started plugins. Plex started ok and used the port 3185 and was reachable from external devices. When I go to the setting page, the custom external port is checked and the port is set correctly. To duplicate it, with everything operating normally, I go to the main UR page and take the server offline then power down the server. After I rebooted it and looked at the Plexmediaserver.cfg file, before I started the plugins, the file was reset to USEPORT="no"PORT="31845" It appears that as part of the shutdown, the Plexmediaserver.cfg file at /boot/config/plugins/Plexmediaserver is getting updated or replaced with an older file. I then go to the settings page, check the custom port box and apply. Everything restarts correctly. Look at the cfg file and it is set as USEPORT="yes" and PORT="31845". This indicates the pluggin is updating the file correctly. My config file after the reboot. # Plex Media Server configuration: SERVICE="enable" INSTALLDIR="/usr/local/Plexmediaserver" CONFIGDIR="/mnt/cache/apps/PlexMediaServer" TRANSDIR="/mnt/cache/apps/tmp/plex" MAXPLUGPROCS="6" MAXLOCKMEM="3000" MAXSTACKSIZE="10000" MAXOPENFILES="4096" USEPORT="no" PORT="31845" RUNAS="nobody" BRANCH="plexpass" USERNAME="xxxxxxxxxx" PASSWORD="xxxxxxxxxxx" REPO="https://plex.tv/downloads" PLG_STORAGESIZE="no" PLG_DATACHECK="yes" CHECKONLINE="yes"
  3. When you say "- Delete the install folder (NOT the config/library folder)", are you talking about "/usr/local/Plexmediaserver". If not, what location are you referring to?
  4. @PhAzE, Thanks, I will give that a try and report back. May take a day or so a I am preclearing a 8TB Drive at the moment and will have t wait till it finishes.
  5. Plex just released an updated PlexPass version. While the plugin appears to grab the new version it does not actually install it. I tried deleting the Plexmediaserver-PhAzE-0.9.16.5.1966-81a3bf0-x64.txz and md5 file from the flash drive and it does download it again. just does not actually install it even though it says it does. If I look at the version reported by the server withing plex, it says it is Version 0.9.16.4 . MD5 of downloaded file. 795cefffafcaf6662d48c32f050191e7 Not really sure if it is grabbing the older version and just naming it incorrectly. Any thoughts? Also something else I've noticed since I upgraded to UR 6.1.9 and the latest plugins. The custom port switch does not stick if I stop and start the plex plugin. I have check the box and hit the apply button to have it start with the custom port. I did a fresh install of UR6.1.9 and fresh install of the plugins and rest all the settings as I did not want to bring any bogus setting from my old 5.1.6 install. You can look here, all of your connectors except the 4+4 pin ATX12V / EPS12V are on rail 1. You may have weird issues when you load your system up.
  7. First...what's the difference, between these 2 (83H0 v. 8331/I?) I think those are just the codes the seller is using to identify which CPU goes with which auction. As far as I can see, they are the same and manufactured within 3 weeks of each other. And...any stock to be placed; in the idea, of advertised "refurbished"...vs. just used? Nope, they mean the same thing in this case.
  8. If your clearing 12 drives simultaneously, then that does not surprise me that it is slow.
  9. These older CPUs are getting harder to get and more expensive. I looked at the 1055 last week for me, $80 was to much considering you would have to purchase a cooler to go with it. This might be a better deal if you can get it. The MB/1055T/Factory cooler and 4 Gig of ram. It says its DDR3 and your manual shows it uses DDR3. Buy It Now Price $114 shipped. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-AMD1055T-4GB-Combo-Asus-M4A78T-AMD-1055T-6-Core-2-8-GHz-Kingston-1333-4GB-/162034676829?hash=item25ba04f45d:g:8uEAAOSwJblXAZkS As far as your question goes, it is up to you. One thing, these older chips can generate a lot more heat when they load up vs the newer ones. It seems like I find more and more uses for mine, making me want the extra CPU cycles. When I started contributing to this thread, I was undecided whether to go with an upgrade or go with a new CPU/MB/Mem path. I found a Phenom II x6 1090T at a good price so elected to go that route. I am hoping I don't regret it due to potential heat.
  10. Not really, if SAB is moving a file, it can cause stalls in the plex stream(s). Added after the text below. But now that I think about that, it may be the fact that cache disk can't handle the transcode write/reads plus moving the files. I think now that I am on 6, I may put a another disk in that is not part of the array and try using it as a temporary plex scratch disk. Also, when you have a lot of simultaneous things happening, it can cause stalling, ie a preclear, parity check, downloading/unpacking, cache-dirs etc. Admittedly, this was all under 5.1.6. I just upgraded to 6.1.9 a little over two weeks ago. I've had two simultaneous streams running. If nothing else major is going on, then it can do it. That's why I said what I said vs maxing out. Admittedly, I currently buffer 5 minutes on the initial transcode. I need to experiment with lowering it. If it is only the OP running a single stream, and other functions, then the 640 will work and he probably will not even see any issues. At $45 it is a cheap solution, if he wants a little more buffer room, the 955 is a good inexpensive solution. I have been running a 640 for several years now and it has served me well. Last week I purchased a 1090T, passmark 5684, Single Thread Rating: 1223. I wanted to give my self a little more headroom for simultaneous plex transcodes and running a windows VM. I am looking to the future when I will probably visualize my PVR software.
  11. @CDLehner, Are you going to be running other pluggins, ie SAB/SB/CP or only primarily a NAS plus plex server. If only NAS +Plex, and assuming only a single stream at a time, then you can widen your search. The Athlon II-X4 640 will work. It will also support SAB/SB/CP plus the single stream, but at that loading plus normal activities, it is getting maxed out. AMD Quad Core CPU Athlon II-X4 640 3.0GHz http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Quad-Core-CPU-Athlon-II-X4-640-3-0GHz-Socket-AM3/172148117171?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35934%26meid%3D6b835b1387d74194aaf854fc1b37368b%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D272198576776 Phenom II X4 955 http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-II-X4-955-3-2-GHz-HDZ955FBK4DGM-CPU-Processor-4000-MHz-Socket-AM3-6MB-/271941341308?hash=item3f50f7907c:g:tFEAAOSw6EhURcje

These are the items I am not sure your hardware would support. It would also be dependent on how much of the various things are happening simultaneously. 2. Game server host (Ark Survival Evolved) 3. VM host for test VM's and I would also like to do a virtual desktop using a dumb terminal of sorts.(This is one thing I can't do now) This is dependent on how many transcodes/streams you have going and what else is going on in the system 4. Plex EDIT: If you decide on a AMD CPU upgrade, I would probably go with a FX-6300, CPU Mark of 6343 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113286 I would also look at a Intel Core i7-6700K upgrade. With a passmark of 10992/Single Thread Rating: 2326, it is probably a good choice.

    New Build

If it was me, I would test your current MB/CPU combo if it will do what you want. I would not drop any money to upgrade the CPU. Your CPU has a passmark of 4003/single thread 1119 score I would verify your PS is single rail and what current the 12V rail is rated at. Your current MB supports 6 SATA drives. Then I would go with a pair of new 8TB Seagate drives. 1 - Mount the first in a separate PC and copy all of your data from your WHS drives to the 8TB drive. 2 - Remove all of the drives form you WHS labeling which SATA port they are connected to. 3 - Install the second 8TB drive into your server, along with the unraid software. PreClear the 8TB drive. Me I use 3 passes (1+2). Verify it is good. 4 - Set up your shares and copy the files from the first 8TB drive to the appropriate shares of your unraid server. 5 - Move the first 8Tb drive to your unraid server and run 3 (1+2) preclear cycles. 6 - Add the drive to the system as your parity assuming it passed the preclear. 7 - After the parity is built and you are satisfied, add the balance of your WHS drives to the array. I would use one of the 1TB as the Cache drive. This is the last step as you want to preserve the WHS drives/config to fall back to in case you need the data. This is the way I would go. This is basically how I migrated from my original FreeNAS config. Then you can start trying the current hardware to see if it can do all of the various things you want it to do. If it doesn't perform, then I would probably look at updating the MB/CPU/Memory to one of the newer Intel setups vs trying to upgrade the AMD CPU/Memory. http://www.neweggbusiness.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9B-22-178-748&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleBiz-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleBiz-PC-_-pla-_-Hard+Drives-_-9B-22-178-748&gclid=Cj0KEQjwosK4BRCYhsngx4_SybcBEiQAowaCJVzfvIYJVU0v23WD2cUNnvcSFfl77YFPkcXT0eRIUt0aAlhV8P8HAQ
  14. As stated earlier, there is nothing wrong with upgrading your CPU based on the your current hardware. Just be aware of what your getting into. If you want the ability to transcode with smallest outlay of cash, then the Athlon-II-X4-640 I posted in this link will work. For $47.54 it gets you the CPU and the heat sync. It is not as good as the Phenoms' but it is less outlay of cash. It handles a single plex stream with no issues. I use the same processor. If you don't go overboard, you could even run some plugins. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=47443.msg461943#msg461943 The reason I said you are going to have to upgrade is you were locked into plex as your solution and your current server just does not have the power to transcode and plex is based around transcoding the source to an acceptable format the client can use. EDIT: The downside of the Athlon-II-X4-640 is that it still does not have a lot of power to do some of the neat cool stuff the Unraid is capable of. For example, running 2-3 plex streams, multiple plugins/docker and VMs. I can max out my 4 cores and start to see them impacting the various things I have going on. That's why I am looking to upgrade. If you only want to drop ~50 go with the CPU I linked. If you don't mind spending ~100 or a little more go with the CPU you found. Again nothing wrong with any of the solutions. If i currently had your CPU, I personally would be going for the 1045T Me and Tim Allen agree on one thing, MORE POWER grunt. A comparison of the two processors. Hit the compare button on the right. Edit for correct link. =171&cmp[]=389]http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=171&cmp[]=389
  15. That will work. You really need to think this through before you spend money. You will need a heat sync rated for 95 watts if you don't already have it. Also, make sure your on the F4J bios if your not already before you install the new processor or you will be reinstalling the old one to do the bios update. F4J Beta BIOS Update CPU AGESA code I don't think anyone is trying to make you feel stupid, it just that others are suggesting other ways that may solve your problem and are giving you options as you have locked in on Plex as your solution. Nothing wrong with Plex, I use it. I liked it so much I bought a lifetime plexpass. Earlier you stated you were not opposed to replacing the CPU and adding memory, but wanted to save the MB. What was pointed out was that you can buy a new CPU/MB/Memory that is current generation and easily available and returnable if you have issues vs buying used EOL gear that could have issues in your system. There is nothing wrong with that if you way the pros and cons. I myself am considering upgrading to a 1100t. I am still debating it vs pulling the trigger on a new SM MB/Xeon/Memory upgrade. Each has its pros/cons. Others pointed out Kodi plus pre-transcoding your videos. A lot of people use Kodi, nothing wrong with it. It has its advantages, one as that it doesn't phone home like plex does. Pre-transoding requires you to use to use additional storage space. Each solution has its advantages and disadvantages. On the suggestion to research some of this is as much a learning aid as anything. Its one thing to ask a question if you don't know nor can find an answer. Its another to expect people to spoon feed every bit of information. Manuals and spec sheets are written for a reason. I think most tech people expect the user to at least try and read the documentation.
  16. Apparently you are new to this thread. Na, I suggested Kodi a few pages ago. OP wants plex. That's his prerogative, but he needs to aware it comes with cost for his server to handle it.
  17. Have you looked at the specs on your motherboard. Fourth bullet down. These are all on the supported CPU list you posted. You really need to try and do some of this research yourself so you understand what you have.. o Supports new generation of AMD Phenom™ II X6 processors o Ultra Durable 3 Classic Technology with copper cooled quality for lower working temperature o Revolution energy saving design with Easy Energy Saver technology o Supports AMD AM3 Phenom™ II/ Athlon™ II processors You can look up the CPU specs here. http://www.cpubenchmark.net http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3143#ov
  18. If you just want to go as cheap as possible and get a CPU that will work, then this Athlon-II-X4-640 would do the job. It comes with the heat-sync. I would just pay the $48 buy it now price, don't mess around and try and get it cheaper. It has video support so no need to run it headless. Just crank the video memory down to 32M in the bios. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Athlon-II-X4-640-3-0-GHz-Quad-Core-CPU-ADX640WFK42GM-Processor-/272198576776?hash=item3f604caa88:g:Ek4AAOSwiylXAUya
  19. Also, note these Phenoms DO NOT have built in graphics capability. You will have to add a video card or run headless.
  20. Here you go, buy this for $85, you will also need another heat sync. Your current one will not work. This is a 95 125 watt CPU. The Cooler-Master-Hyper-212 is supposed to be a good cooler if you have the room in your case, dimensions (120 x 80 x 159 mm (4.7 x 3.1 x 6.3 in). I would also look around to see if you can pick up another 2 gig of memory if you can find it relative cheap. This would be the cheapest solution For approximately $4-$500, you could get a new CPU/MB/Memory that would work really well. You could also probably go lower specs and for a little over $300 if you have a Microcenter nearby. http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Phenom-II-x6-1055T-2-8GHz-6Core-6MB-Socket-AM3-95W-HDT55TFBK6DGR-/291728608164?hash=item43ec614ba4:g:inoAAOSwiylXAbuR http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i3-4370 3.4GHz LGA 1150 Processor 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i3-4370 3.4GHz LGA 1150 Processor $129.99 381970 Save $20 Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-GAMING 5 LGA 1150 mATX Intel Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z97MX-GAMING 5 LGA 1150 mATX 574582 BUNDLE PRICE $244.98 BUNDLE NOW Save $20 ASRock H97M Pro LGA1150 mATX Intel Motherboard ASRock H97M Pro LGA1150 mATX 646455 BUNDLE PRICE $174.98 BUNDLE NOW Save $20 ASUS Z97-E LGA 1150 ATX Intel Motherboard ASUS Z97-E LGA 1150 ATX 685792 BUNDLE PRICE $224.98 BUNDLE NOW Save $20 Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H LGA 1150 mATX Intel Motherboard Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H LGA 1150 mATX 646810 BUNDLE PRICE $187.98 BUNDLE NOW Save $20 Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H LGA1150 mATX Intel Motherboard Gigabyte GA-H97M-D3H LGA1150 mATX 456954 BUNDLE PRICE $199.98
  21. I bet it also sounds like a jet airplane taking off.
  22. I also noticed you only have 2G of memory, you may have to bump that also to at least 4G. You might be able to get by with two, but it will probably be close.
  23. @jbrodriguez, Ive seen in the past, you can quote the end directory, but when you nest it deeper, it would not create the path. For example /Dir1/Dir2/"Dir 3" would create the entire path, but /Dir1/"Dir2/Dir 3" would not. If /Dir1/Dir2 already existed, it would work. Not sure if it was just the command string I was using or not.
  24. If you want to upgrade your CPU, you could probably get a better one on ebay for $50-75 that would let you transcode a single stream or two on plex but not a lot of other things at the same time.
