  1. You can, but I really don't. I've about exhausted my knowledge. It just so happens I have a Fire TV and use Plex on an Unraid system. If I can answer I will, but I think you may better off asking questions of the Plex board if you want deep details You can ask a Ninja . I would still be on XBMC, ie Kodi if I did not use the remote capability of Plex.
  2. You might want to read up on h.264. and other encoding. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC "As the term is used in the standard, a "level" is a specified set of constraints that indicate a degree of required decoder performance for a profile. For example, a level of support within a profile specifies the maximum picture resolution, frame rate, and bit rate that a decoder may use. A decoder that conforms to a given level must be able to decode all bitstreams encoded for that level and all lower levels." The levels you are referencing have nothing to do with audio. For example, my V1 Fire TV only supports up to level 4.0. You must have a second generation device. A lot of my video is encoded at 4.1 level. As a consequence, plex transcodes it down when I play it. You need to look at your source video to understand how it is encoded. Then play it back on your FireTV and look at the details on the fire TV as to why it is transcoding. What it is going to boil down to is that if you want to use plex, you are going to have to update your server hardware or spend a lot of time ensuring your videos are encoded at native Fire TV rates, audio and containers. Then you could have issues playing to other devices. Plex gets around the compatibility issues by transcoding on the fly based on the client requirements. If you don't want to update the server then you are going to have switch to streamers. To see details in plex, while looking at the video file picture, click the three dots then select info. You can scroll to see additional detail. For example, this is the details for the file I referenced earlier. 3. The form factor for the MB is SSI EEB (12”x13”). It does not fit in a Antec 900 case. You will need another case.
  4. Spaces in the directory structure can cause issues if you have not accounted for them in your code. What is the path structure it want build?
  5. Did you try the setting I posted earlier for your FireTV? What were the results.
  6. I would give Kodi a try if all you are doing is local streaming. It also has an excellent interface.
  7. I had the same CPU when I first built my system. It is not up to the task. I dropped a AMD Athlon II X4 640 in as it was supported by my MB/Firmware as a inexpensive upgrade. It will run plex, but just barely. You need to look into updating your MB/CPU/Memory. If you have a Microcenter nearby, they usually have good deals on CPU/MB combos. If you wanted to go cheap, you could possibly find a used CPU on ebay that would work in you MB, but if it was me, I would just upgrade to a new Intel I5 CPU. Even though the AMDs are cheaper, the Intels have more power and run cooler.
  8. If your server hardware is not up to Plex, you could always sideload Kodi on your box and use that. It is a streamer. You loose some of the features of plex, primarily remote access. http://kodi.wiki/view/Amazon_Fire_TV
  9. These are my FireTV Client settings. Try the same settings and see if that helps. You set them within the FireTV Plex app. As CHBMB said, it could also be your server hardware. These setting should put the least demand on your server.
  10. I agree with the others. The play back quality issues is with the client/server. Those settings need to be adjusted. Also be aware that the transcoding requirements can be highly dependent on the encoding of the source martial. Your at the stage now that any issues are plex related. Just to make sure, your fire tv is hardwired into your network correct? Your not using wireless? All I was pointing out about hard coding the IP and Master Browser was to make sure that the internal network communications was stable. They have absolutely zero impact on your transcoding issues. I did not mean to get you off on another direction. If you want to know more about the Master Browser functionality, there is a lot of information on it on the web. One good overview is here. He also publishes an excellent tool, LANScanner to identify and troubleshoot master browser info. One common error that some people make is to have multiple workgroups in their windows network and then wonder why they can see other computers in the network neighborhood. http://scottiestech.info/2009/02/14/how-to-determine-the-master-browser-in-a-windows-workgroup/
  11. You need to make sure your on the latest version of plex for the Fire TV. On the plex client set it up for direct play for video and audio. You may also have to increase the bit rate for local content. Depending on your source, it may still trans-code the audio As a side issue, if you have not already done it, you may want to set your unraid server up with a fixed IP or reserve one on your router where you always have the same one. Under SMB, I would also set it to be the local Master Browser, assuming it is not set in your router. I am assuming your using SMB shares. This can help make your internal network more stable. EDIT: If you set a fixed IP, make sure it is outside your DHCP lease pool.
  12. I just ordered 2 @ $70 each plus $11 shipping for a total of $151. Great find.
  13. How about creating a hard link to the file in the owncloud directory. Not sure it will work or not. http://stackoverflow.com/a/29786294 and
  14. I'll do the upgrade this weekend when I have the time. Thaks for the feedback.
  15. This will be a multi-phase upgrade. I want to get the plugins update first. A week or so later I'll go to V6. I am very conservative during upgrades and want to be able to fall back very easily. I was not sure about your plugins and wanted to make sure there would be no issues. 16. On the main page, click the disk ID. It will open the disk properties. You can the export the disk so that you access it like any other share. At least on V5. V6 may be different. Depending on your system, it can be a chore to get all the data off. Good luck.
  17. TeraCopy or use rsync. http://www.codesector.com/teracopy Are you out of SATA ports. If not, use and existing port and keep it in the system even if you have to lay the drive on the table/etc. If you are out of ports, pick up one of these if you have a PCIe port you can plug it into. Connect the drive to it. Be aware the connector is very delicate and breaks easily. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124027
  18. @Phaze, Without reading back through 192 pages I am hoping you can verify these steps to upgrade my plugins. I am currently on unRAID Server Pro version: 5.0.6 with very old plugins, am and the process of starting my migration to unRAID Release 6.1.9. My server is very stable so I did not keep up with the plugins as they evolved. I still plan on using the plugins in V6 for a long time versus . These are the plugins I use. CouchPotato Headphones Plex Media Server SABnzbd Sick Beard As the first step, I need to get to the latest version of the plugin(s). These are my planed steps to get the pluggins current. Am I missing anything or is there a better way? 1. Copy my current flash drive to my backup flash so any fall back only requires swapping flash disks. 2. Boot system with “new” backup flash. Verify everything is still ok and working 3. Copy \\TOWER\flash\config\plugins to \\TOWER\flash\config\Backup_plugins 4. Make a backup of my “apps” folder on my cache driver where all my apps live. 5. Make the following changes to \\TOWER\flash\config\plugins 5.1 For each plugin, delete all of the files in its sub directory, except the.cfg file. I.e in \\TOWER\flash\config\plugins\Couchpotato only the file Couchpotato.cfg file would be left. 5.2 Delete the plugin, ie Couchpotato.plg from the plugins directory. 5.3 Repeat for each of the plugins. 6. Install the latest plugins to my \\TOWER\flash\config\plugins directory. Is there any other files or directories I need to remove to get to the latest 7. Reboot my server and verify everything is ok. To migrate to R6, I plan on basically doing a new config and re configuring everything to get rid of any crud that has built up. After I get the system up to 6 and reconfigured, I was going to add the plugins back to the plugin folder plus each of the plugins subdirectories with its “cfg” file and reboot and let it reinstall the plugins and apps. Is there anything special I need to do to reinstall the plugins when I get to 6. If you have already covered this can you point me to the post?
  19. Its interesting, but I don't think I would use it. I would be more inclined to use BTSync or Syncthing.
  20. Plex is a busy program. It is always hitting the drive. Thats why I have mine installed to a cache only share.
  21. huladaddy, did you read what I posted here for you? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=36201.msg441189#msg441189
  22. @huladaddy, The excel sheet I put together may help you. Basically, it read your drives, builds a grid showing drives where the various directories are located. You can elect to "move" a single directory from say disk2 to disk1 or you can move the directories from say disk2, disk3 and disk7 to disk1. In this case you use the stacked rsync command. Based on the selections you make, it builds a rsync command you copy and paste into a telnet session you you open to your Unraid server. Every time you run the data import scripts, it resets the rsync command to "dryrun". You have to change it in the drop-down. You really want to read through the entire thread, but at least these two links. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33689.msg310759#msg310759 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=33689.msg415201#msg415201 Also, unraid allocations are not involved, you make the decision on the file locations and how to get them there.
  23. You need to add up your power budget to spec your power supply. I am thinking you are way overkill on the power supply.
