Obviously it's only desired if clients cannot use it.  But note that it doesn't disable HDR system wide: direct played or streamed media keeps its HDR.  Tone mapping only happens on transcoded media.

If you need to transcode and do not have an HDR capable device and no tone mapping, the end result looks *very* bad.  But if you DO have tone mapping, it just looks like any other non HDR content (fine, if not ideal).  You've already chosen to accept a decrease in visual fidelity for some reason (probably bandwidth or data caps) so just getting non-HDR isn't going to be a big deal.

Technically you could also be transcoding because the Plex client says it cannot handle whatever format the source media is in. But if it can't handle the source file, HDR is probably the least of the problems. 😅

    Woo! Getting closer!

New Plex version dropped this morning, version 1.28.1.6018 (beta update channel.) With this Plex version + Unraid 6.11.0-rc2, I'm now able to enable both "Use hardware acceleration when available" and "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding" without crashes or any errors in the Unraid or docker logs. CPU usage is minimal if not transcoding audio.

With everything set as above...If I enable HDR tone mapping, the CPU usage is pegged as if it's software transcoding and it can't keep up with transcoding a single 4K HDR10 stream (with 4 E cores only) for more than a few seconds at a time. This combo used to not work at all for me...had to disable HDR tone mapping for playback to even begin.

Are you using binhex-plexpass, or is there some way to switch the official container to beta?

    Reboot

Then try again.   Don't close the popup and then copy and paste the output of it.

(I can't replicate so need to see who's not doing their job: the OS or CA)

I don't get a popup. Are there logs somewhere?

edit: FWIW, I am able to install other apps. Only GPU Statistics goes to 'pending'.

    It’s still running …

    no intel gpu top installed

    no blacklist

    no modprob in syslinux conf

i am transcoding to ram but I think this is not important for gpu crash. Except that I did not do anything special.

@flyize do you have Stil the gcu reset errors in system log like with 6.10 or how is the behaviour?

    So far I've tried:

    • Vanilla RC2
    • GUC
    • Removing intel_gpu_top
    • Removing blacklist

All result in a Plex crash. The best result was Vanilla with the GUC setting. It lasted about 20 minutes transcoding a movie to download.
