  1. cool, as i thought. as this is my greatest worry. just wanted wanted a second opinion given the emphasis on how important is it to preclear a new disk. thank again jorge
  2. after ive pulled the old disk and replace with a new disk, can i start the array while parity emulating the missing disk and preclear the new disk before i rebuild parity on the new disk. would i just start the array with a rebuild and preclear? would this cause an issue?
  3. just of a bit of clearity, ill just shutdown, pull the disk and replace it with a new disk? rebuild from there? seems simple enough, also i just remembered that i dont have an open slot for another drive either for preclear etc.
  4. i have a cold spare 16tb, i have dual paritied 16tb drives. the drive that failed the extended smart test is 8tb. based on the first part of your answer, i could replace the drive with the 16tb cold spare. i would not need a parity swap as i dont need to update parity to a larger size.
  5. smart test completed and returned a read failure. i believe i did set up notification, sent to an email and filter/labeled. i just never looked at the email account. until i did.
  6. Good evening, A few weeks ago, i came across a Disk Disabled. i didnt noticed any issues until i checked the GUI, after setting and forgetting the server. i was wondering what could of happened? What i can tell there is a i/o error on disk 9. (im learning i swear, haha) i will assume that i will need to replace a disk and rebuild from partiy disk. can i replace this disk with a larger disk than the disable disk that is within the size limits of the array? do i need to replace it with the same size and then replace that disk with the larger one? Attached are the latest diagnostics. thank you nastradamus-diagnostics-20230818-0157.zip
  7. i was able to enable syslog but was not about to gather the logs to post. however i found the issue to be a overloaded power outlet which has seen been fixed. thanks again jorgeb. sorry for late reply
  8. Hello, My server has been restarting randomly and frequently. I am trying to narrow all possible causes before i look more into replacing hardware. i want to know if there are any hints/info as to what is going on via the diagnostics. thank you nastradamus-diagnostics-20230506-0844.zip
  9. Update, I was able to recover most of the files on the disks. Unfortunately, I have large amount of files that were recovered as "file123455". If the file is a video file I am able to load the file in vlc, and the name will come up from the embedded metadata. However, I have been spending the last few week manually try to match/find important files and rename them to previous FIL we some that appear when I load the video file Does anyone know of program that can help automate the renaming these files? 11. good evening, i recently renamed a share to all lowercase. i then had duplicate shares. so i deleted the empty share. i am now unable to connect to the share via windows/smb. it will try to ask me if i want to diagnose the problem. so far i have tried to remove and read the share via windows and tried to restart the server with no success. 12. ok I've walked thru steps 1-7. while doing step 8 to clarify steps 10 and 11 place the new hardrive with recovered data from step 8 and oringal array HD back in the server, power the server on and start the array as normal with the unassinged drive. to transfer the data to the array. as i shouldn't start the array with the drive missing. however i have no drive slot available for an unassigned drive. if i create a new array wouldn't i lose any data that was not deleted? i guess i would have to recover it again? ive seem to have confused myself on recreating the array and moving and removing drives. i have an idea in my head that i need to keep the configuration the same. stopping and starting a drive with a removed hardrive would cause more errors. i need to get an understanding as i can wrap this around my head for some reason. seems i am forgetting stuff i already knew or misremembering how to do things. lol
  13. Hello Fellow Unraiders. Last week, tragedy stuck. an docker app and in all it infinite glory has deleted about 85-90 tb or 90% of my array data. After spending weeks of correctly and painstakingly following tutorials to translate my own setup to its guidelines. i have yet to create a backup solution as the amount of data is large among sorting through other bottle necks. After a week of shutting everything down (the server and my my mental health) to reevaluating what ive lost and life choices. i am again interested in giving a recovery a chance before i move forward. Upon my googling, i've read of different feed back basically saying its not possible to recover via xfs or thiss or that reason. i found this thread. is this something that is recommended? i assume i would need addition drives. my chassis is at max hardrives as well. so i would need to remove 14 the data drives and add new drives to array. im basically building a new server array as i replace serveral drives with empty drives in the current array., how will this effect parity? this task seems overwhelming but at the same time some of my data. i cannot get replace so i must try. which i dont even know if that would be a simple think as i over thinking and confusing one thought with another. i just so much to wrap my head around. any insight will help. thanks for reading my post.
  14. I've done this. The question/problem, after completing the transfer of my registration to the new usb, I overwritten the currently registered drive with an another older backup of the previous flash drive that I moved the registration key from previously. The drive is the same. Not a new drive from registration. The data on the disk was changed/overwritten.
  15. After my last post, I had to head to work. Here where I left it as. I removed the new USB, loaded the previous USB, downloaded the flash backup, used the USB creater via zip to write to the new usb, now both drives "should" be identical. Before I did this I copied the entire contents of the drive at each phase. I booted the server as I basically walked out the door. I've remoted back into my PC to via the broswer and now not sure If put the correct USB in as it says registration key in red, or did just writr over my old one? Did I lose/ delete my key? I assume it would recognize via uid if it was the right USB. I will have to check and make sure when I am home. Drives seemed correct, other then the registration key and being unable to check anything else. However it may be the wrong USB anyways. If it is, I do have config from after I activated the key and before I used the USB creator took for the second time to create the current USB. JorgeB, does this still apply? Just copy the Config folder over expect super.dat.
