  1. I get connection to and data from IPMI but now the "fan control" tab is gone Cant find a setting to bring it back. Isnt the board supported?
  2. Hi everyone an merry christmas I spend the whole day with searching for possibilities to achieve a Backup of my Server Data with this new constellation. I built a small setup out of a raspberry pi, and two spare ext HDDs I had laying around from shucking. I installed OMV and thought I could init a backup schedule there via the rsync service or another handy plugin. I dont know if its better to init the sync from the Unraid server side to have logs in the right place, or better try to use OMVs services for easier scheduling. My main goal is to have it fully outomated so I wont forget to do it. From what I read its not that simple to get Unraid and rsync running with scheduled tasks. I at least wanted to try this approach but dont know if its the right attempt. Also Im not sure if OMV will handle the external drives without problems. E.g. on a restart they wont be mountet automatically if Im right. Can someone give me a hint whats the best approach to backup my data to an external source (same network but different rooms)? Maybe Im also just a bit overwhelmed from the todays research and just need an advide what to focus on
  3. Oh yes, just tried something cheap in the beginning. As I see everywhere, it gets more expensive quickly I looked around a bit and found some posts from you and some reddit infos. I saw you recommended a LSI 9300-8i. Would a LSI 9201-8i do it as well? I found a IT preflashed on ebay for a price I could afford I guess. How bad is my actual situation - should I switch soon or can I spare money for better equipment? Hope I dont overuse your help
  4. Thank you once more glad here are so many experts willing to help new members. Im really careful within this new topic so I really appreciate your support 👍 EDIT: Searched a bit and now guessing it would be a controller error (reffering to this thread )
  5. I now located the corresponding disk and changed cable and sata controller port. Message persists on reboot. I hope now it could be a controller issue. Should I post this in the forum? 😬 Of course that doesnt belong to this topic.
  6. Thanks again, didnt recognized that. SMART values looked good. Yes, I had a second pre-clear running on another disk (same type). It finished just now. I will make a intense system diagnostic now. Thanks for your thoughts 👍 EDIT: A Server-Restart and/or deletion of the pre-clear plugin solved the problem. The disks are formatted as intended. EDIT2: I Still get these ATA6 Errors. Thought it would be a Cable issue. Could it be a controller issue or is the disk faulty? 7. Sure, thanks. I also attached the full disk log as I found two errors regarding UD in lines 164 and 194. I marked them with '-->'. storage-diagnostics-20201204-0823.zip UD_disk_log.txt
  8. Hi, I used UD a while now - everything is working fine I now bought some new disks and precleared them. After preclear I tried to format one to ntfs but after the success message the disk ist still without filesystem nevertheless if I try ntfs or xfs... Does anyone has a cloue? The disk was freshly precleared and zeroed - I just clicked on the red X from preclear-disk plugin... Here is the last log from the formatting
  9. Hi, I bought a pair of new drives for my array and initial started with preclearing them via CA preclear-disks. After it finished I pressed the red X and wanted to format the hdd. I tried to format it as NTFS and also XFS. None of it had an effect. After the success message the drive has only the format button and shows no filesystem. Even after I formatted it to NTFS on my local Windows machine it wont show a filesystem in CA UD. Can someone give me a hint? My plan is either to format is as xfs, copy my files on it and imclude it into the array - or to format it as ntfs to hold my data that is on my future parity drive (the drive I want to use as parity drive holds a bunch of data ATM). Woud first be possible (integrate a xfs with data directly into array without loosing the data)?
  10. Ah, I see. Yes, that makes sense. With "shucked" drives I become plenty results. Wasnt aware of that notion but about the process, thanks So I looked around a bit and the cheapest drive from WD I could find is a 12TB WD My Book for 217€ and a 12TB Seagate Expansion Desktop for 230€. Last one could contain BaraCuda, IronWolf or Exos... I bought my Exos in sale for 270€. Unfortunately not that much difference. I also read some posts here and it seems these drives are somewhat cheaper in the US than here in Germany. I will wait until Black Friday in hope there is a good deal. thanks for all the information
  11. Yes, I have a separate backup for my most important files. Ah, okay - sounds interesting. I was struggling between WD Red and Seagate Exos. In the End I choosed the Exos. What is the meaning of "shuck" (couldnt translate it properly).
  12. Yes, I know- thats what I tried to mention I likewise need parity for my regular stuff like documents, pictures, etc. so I would stay on my parity array. I just cant decide if I should integrate my movies into it for "high costs", or mount it as UD with less safety and less manageable (in future there will be more movie disks which would be all as separate shares what I dont like). I guess its mostly its a queston of investment.
  13. Hi, Im brand new to Unraid, coming from FreeNAS. I tested both and ended up with UR as it supports my purposes regarding storage device flexibility the most. Im still in trial mode and testing the system Therefore I have one problem or decission to take. My Setup over a long time (before FreeNAS) was a Windows Server with simple attached NTFS HDDs where I stored my Movies (without redundancy). I now have bought myself a 12TB HDD and stored most of that content there. Plex on UR works great with the movies shared over UD so far. To store the rest of, and further movies, I would need to add other drives (e.g. first a 8TB drive, later another 12TB) as UD and had the movies spread over different shares what I dont like. On the other hand it would, for now, be cheaper. Alternatively I could integrate the 12TB into my Array. Therefore I must buy another 12TB for parity and a third 12TB drive to extend storage. With that I could have all, and further movies in one "movie" share AND parity-protected. But it would be much more expensive. Also I would get in trouble with buffering the 12TB while I preclear and add the drive to the array (while copying all movies from my old HDD collection I recognized that most of them were worn out 😬) as for now I could only afford one additional 12TB drive... So my options are to spend 300€ for 12TB with the need of another 300€ for a third drive in near future OR to spend 150€ for e.g. 8TB additional storage as UD and be safe (regarding storage space) for the next time. What would you do? Mostly its a question of investment. But as a student I allready put a lot money in my hobby Im sorry for all the words and hope you could understand my question. So or so Im glad to be here and agog to learn and experience new things with Unraid so long Marcel
