Chia farming, plotting; array and unassigned devices
I think they recommend responding within 2 seconds so you definitely don't want drives spinning down. see :- https://github.com/Chia-Network/chia-blockchain/wiki/FAQ#is-it-possible-to-have-a-proof-but-not-get-a-reward

Chia farming, plotting; array and unassigned devices
Seems like small players might be better to wait for pools to be available as it sounds like you will need to use new plots for pools. Currently the network is at 2.5 exabytes and growing by a significant amount daily so small players are going to struggle to get paid at the moment.... If you have 100TB of spare storage and don't mind killing a bunch of SSD's generating the plots I think you can probably turn a profit eventually... assuming the coin price doesn't fall and the network doesn't grow too much. https://chiacalculator.com/

My Servers Early Access Plugin
Hi, I'm not interested in the remote access functionality but the backup and key stuff is useful. What data does this plugin report back to "the mothership". Obviously there is a config backup but what else does the api send? Thanks, Chris

unRAID API
+1, I also do this, REST API for unRAID would be great if it was available.

Rebuild N40L or Start fresh???
Have a look at a new Microserver, they do them with cashback.... Looks like they are £140 with £55 cashback in the UK so $145 for a new board seems very expensive....

BackBlaze Reports
I'm just not so worried about DOA drives, since they go straight back to the store..... a drive that fails after 6 months when it is full of data is more of a pain to me....

BackBlaze Reports
Yeah certainly we don't do any form of burn in at work for new drives.

BackBlaze Reports
I wonder if backblaze just buy the drives and stick them into service, might explain the high failure rates somewhat. Certainly I've had way more disks DOA than I've had fail in use. Excluding mis-use

Great! Look forward to it.

Assume this is abandoned? New release breaks it anyway. After stopping the array an error appears and you can't shutdown.

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
OK the ram I have is registered, explains why it doesn't work. Doubt you have to use kits from that list as long as it compatible.

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
Is anyone running an N36L with 16gb of RAM? Is a BIOS mod required?

Is that X-swing still available anywhere? All the links in the avforums thread seem to be dead or out of stock.

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
My server now seems to be running smoothly with 2gb of RAM rather than 1gb.

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
Finally got around to buying keys and playing with this. So far I'm not having much luck. I'm thinking 1gb isn't enough ram for 3tb disks. Finder, explorer, teracopy and even mc locally all die horribly trying to manipulate files. There are no hints to any issue in the syslog so I'm pretty much guessing until the parity check finishes but the issue seems to be limited to the 3tb drive I have in there. Smart reports are also clean.

MicroServer N36L/N40L/N54L - 6 Drive Edition
Hmm, 2.5" 2tb drives would be nice. Then you could stick 4 in the top slot. Guess we are some way off those yet however. One of mine is humming away preclearing some 3tb drives. Build quality is pretty good as you would expect from HP. Yet to decide what to do with the "spare" one I bought

Graphs are funny. Choice is either good cooling or low noise. Both isn't an option.

Where to shop for what?
Another thing to add to this thread for folks in the UK.... Norco cases are available from X-Case http://www.xcase.co.uk
-
Where to shop for what?
They change their deals everyday the same as Scan, I agree that scan are cheaper at the moment but Aria are often cheaper than scan. A Couple of weeks ago I bought 2x WD20EARS for £105 from Scan, at the time Aria were cheaper for single drives and scan were cheaper for 2. Just depends on what deals are on what site.

Where to shop for what?
Add Aria too. They are more often that not cheaper than Scan. Check the super specials for the best prices, sometimes with free delivery. EDIT : Currently playing with some scripts and made this http://www.smokingcures.com/hdd/ to help me work out the best deal on a few UK suppliers websites..
