  1. Thanks Joe L. It was an old drive, I'll just replace it. I know many reccomend using a size matched to parity for cache since you could use it as a quick swap, however if I'm running SB, SAB, and others on my cache wouldn't I lose those settings on all those apps if I ended up doing this? Is it worth buying a 3TB drive for cache to match parity.
  2. That's strange, when I ran smartctl - a - A /dev/sdc I receive a report part of which says something like overall health failed drive likely to fail within 24 hours.
  3. had to format the cache to remount it, finally was able to run a smart report. smart.txt
  4. root@Tower:~# free -l total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 7992596 6491488 1501108 0 143276 6189236 Low: 835768 530560 305208 High: 7156828 5960928 1195900 -/+ buffers/cache: 158976 7833620 Swap: 0 0 0 So I shouldn't worry at all and go back to solving my cache drive/plugin concern?
  5. Using Simplefeatures I've noticed that upon transfering data to my server RAM useage spikes and stays high afterward. Almost like it is using the Ram for a cache drive and never clearing it. I have 8GB and it's useage is over 7 constantly. I've only seen one mention of something similar anywhere and not sure where to start.
  6. I've been out of town and will check this week and report back. Right now I have it disabled and have another concern that I want to work on first.
  7. Yes cache is sdb. I think I'm running it correctly and get the message: Smartctl: Device Read Identity Failed (not an ATA/ATAPI device)
  8. I'm having some trouble here, sorry. Tried to open the .txt and its so large I'm having trouble with it. Only program I have that will open it is Wordpad, and it's making it very unstable. Impossible to copy and paste. I guess I've never worked with a 2GB txt file before. I thought influencers plugins did not have to be stopped prior to stopping the array. I may have made the problem better or worse. The only way I could access is telnet, I found that there was an open python process running like crazy(61mil reads to the cache drive in a short time) so I killed it. Array stopped and was able to access the web GUI again, however now the cache drive shows unformatted.
  9. Zipping my syslog resulted in a file 2.2MB which is still larger than I can attach. What can I do to attach it? When I attempted to run smartctl it worked on my data drives, but not on the cache. The cache is an old 40GB SATA I, it's possible it doesn't have smart features right? As added info RAM cache is high - using about 5-6GB and when attempting to stop the array I get unmounting disks....retry unmounting disks... over and over.
  10. I downloaded the syslog from unmenu and it says its 1.73 GB, is it me or is that insane? Plus much larger than able to attach right? Where do I find smartctl?
  11. 2 days ago I installed sabnzbd and sickbeard on the cache drive, and assume I set it up right for the plugins to just use the cache, and my media share to not. Yesterday I installed simplefeatures. Last night the web interface for the array started becoming unstable and was very difficult to reach. I had to do an unclean powerdown and sit through a parity check. I started poking around this monring and found #1 the media share seems to be using the cache(I don't know why) and a ton of errors in the unmenu system log. Oct 27 08:56:10 Tower kernel: sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] Unhandled error code (Errors) Oct 27 08:56:10 Tower kernel: sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=0x04 driverbyte=0x00 (System) Oct 27 08:56:10 Tower kernel: sd 1:0:0:0: [sdb] CDB: cdb[0]=0x28: 28 00 00 04 01 a0 00 00 08 00 (Drive related) over and over and over again. Can someone help me out?
  12. Array has been completely stable for a few weeks. Installed simplefeatures today and since connection to the array has been spotty, eventually got to the point I could not connect to //tower or //tower:8080. Attempted to power down the array with the power button but would not cleanly shut down. Now I'm going through my second parity check of the day. Is there a good place for me to start trouble shooting (I also installed sickbeard and sabnzbd in the last 48 hours) or should I just get rid of simplefeatures and hope it clears up?
  13. is simplefeatures accessed on //tower and unmenu //tower:8080 ?
  14. While using UnRaid the past few weeks I have used unMenu and installed preclear/email notifications/sickbeard/sabnzbd. I want to check simple features out but can you run both at the same time? Do I have to remove everything else beforehand?
  15. Seeing as its a cache drive, but set up to only store plugins, if I copied the files on it to a location on a seperate system would that be sufficient back up? Would it save my plugin settings? IE set up for sabnzbd and sickbeard? I assume as I add shows I would want to update the back up file?
  16. I can usually keep my fans set pretty low and my temps stay around 30, maybe 34 during parity checks. I installed an old Samsung SATA I 40GB drive as cache(only using for plugins) and I had to turn the fans all the way up just to keep it at 40. In its location it does recieve less air flow over the top, but the same across the bottom. Do older drives tend to run warmer? Is 40 safe? If it turn my fans down it will go to 42-43, would that still be safe? While its obviously a cheap drive I don't want to waste it. Not to mention lose all my plugin data.
  17. Wow totally forgot to come back and update! Let me say that I cannot praise the Define R4 more for this exact set up. For those of us that will have the server in a visible space it is AMAZING. Looks great and is quiet as can be. I ended up with AsRock B75 Pro3-M , Intel G850, 8GB of Ripjaws X(it was on sale for the $35 I was going to spend anyway, may switch it out with the 4 that is in my HTPC, we will see), and the Corsair CX-500. So far I have only installed 2 3TB drives, adding a third and cache drive soon. With fans set to the lowest setting temps during parity check or preclear are around 32-33 C. I don't mind bumping up the fan if I have to, medium it is still not audiable from my seating position, and at the top setting barely audiable if everything else in the room is silent. Unraid install went amazingly smooth, all I have left to do is set up my cache, sickbeard and sabnzbd, and the UPS and we are ready to roll.
  18. Well I have it all figured out to shutdown both, however now my concern in to be able to wake the win 7 machine from s3, I have to assume someone out there has a machine that stays in s3 that they have connected to a ups. Alternatively I could just have the UPS shut down the unraid server, if the htpc is in s3 then it should last days at its level over power draw right?
  19. Anyone on ideas? If Windows 7 machine is in s3 and unraid array is online, how to wake the win 7 machine and trigger shutdown?
  20. So in your set up using an APC UPS, the UPS gives a shutdown command to the Unraid server via USB, and in tern the apcupsd sends a shutdown command to the PC via LAN? Is this based on the PC running Windows 7? Also generally my HTPC is in S3 most of the day, how would that effect it?
  21. What I have come across now seems to say that apcupsd can run on the htpc as a master and a second device as a slave, but #1 does the unraid version have this option and #2 does anyone have this working with a non APC UPS.
  22. From what I have read the plugin for APC works with cyberpower, but obviously I would have to have a function in windows 7 to do the same for the htpc.
  23. So obviously I would want the sever, htpc and router with backup power. Any reason to not have all 3 hooked up to the UPS? They are within 4 ft of each other.
  24. Everything is going great with my new build but I think I would feel a lot better with a UPS. Last night it started storming so I shut down the array and turned it off. Cyberpower looks like an affordable option but I'm not sure how much I need. Am I right in the fact that the only two things that would need backing up are my unraid server and htpc? TV, Router, AVR, Amp, Power Sub all should be fine on just a surge protector?
