  1. Can I check if you have a problem obtaining SMART status from drives connected to this card too?
  2. You may check out my previous thread below for reference. The IDE interface can be useful if it is implemented on a separate bus from the PCI one. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4285.0
  3. Just wondering if there's an update on this? Have the changes in the sastest version made it to 4.5.4? No reply from Limetech to my emails...
  4. The card is recognized by 4.5.3 and the drives do show up in the menu for assignment. However, I am getting a "HDIO_GET_IDENTITY" error in the syslogs and I am unable to run both smartctl and hdparm on the drives connected to the card. Is this also the same behavior for the sastest version?
  5. Hey guys, I just got a LSI 3041X-R. Emailed Limetech for the sastest version but no response for the last 2 weeks. Any kind soul here can upload a copy somewhere for me to download? Thanks in advance!
  6. Tried back both 4.5 and 4.5.1 and works perfectly. Read about the write speed improvements in 4.5.3 and disappointed cannot upgrade...
  7. Just upgraded from 4.5 to 4.5.3. Everything boots fine except that UnRAID can no longer read the GUID of my USB key properly so server boots up as Basic edition and only 3 drives are shown... Read that there were some changes to the way the GUID is read..could this have affected me?
  8. That's what I thought....but just needed to hear someone else say it... Thanks Joe!
  9. I use my unRAID box about 2-3 times a week. In the long run, is it better to sleep/suspend my box or turn it off until I need it. For power savings, turning it off will better of course but will it be better for the harddisks if I sleep/suspend so that they do not have to power cycle so often?
  10. Hi Joe, Just had a chance to try the latest version with a few new hdds. If I do the verification of zeros, post-read speed drops to 28-30 mb/s. If I use the -N option, post-read speed is 60-65 mb/s (same as pre-read). So essentially, it is taking 100% longer for me if I do the verification of zeros. Is there anything wrong that I'm doing?
  11. This is great stuff and I didn't even have to try any linux commands... Unfortunately, my time is tied up with a seminar until tomorrow so can only do some serious testing this weekend...can't wait...
  12. For ease of use and testing, I will consolidate all ISOs in a single folder. Ideally, it should list all the ISOs in the single folder I have fixed/designated. Then allow me to choose one to be mounted. For a start, it will be enough to be able to mount one ISO at a given time. Both the mount-point and shared name can be fixed in this case. Hoping that I can do it eventually using a web interface similar to un-sharing and un-mounting drives using Disk Mgt in unMenu. I'm a sucker for experimentation. Bring it on!
  13. I have quite a few ISO files on my unRAID servers. However, I do have an old media player that can only play VOB files. Is there anyway I can mount the ISO file using unMenu and then share it out? Either through a script or some other means...appreciate the help!
  14. Hi Joe, Just a quick query. If I use the pre-clear script to exercise a few old HDDs, can I still use the disks in a Windows-based system after that? As in, I will be able to just partition as per normal using Windows Disk Management or some other third party tool right?
  15. I am using an old Matrox G450 AGP card and also no video after waking from S3. Not really that bothered since I can still telnet and access the web interface. Only way to get back video is with a reboot of the server...
  16. Looks really great...thanks for the link! Googled halfway across the internet before realising that there's a wiki on using Crashplan with unRaid.. http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/CrashPlan
  17. I see. Guess I will experiment with that once I have gotten my unRAID servers running smoothly first. Thanks!
  18. Yup. Do any of you use a online storage solution like Backblaze to cater for such situations?
  19. Sounds great Joe. Will probably do just that for the time being and get the paid version of unRAID once I need it. Thanks!
  20. === Start long story === I am currently running the free version of unRAID (2 data + 1 parity). I am considering setting up another unRAID server using the free version. Reason being that I don't need that much storage at the moment and I would like to mirror one more copy of my important data on another unRAID server. === End long story === So the question is if I move to the paid version of unRAID subsequently, is there any way to combine the 2 servers? I am wondering if I can remove the data drives from one of the server and put it in the other. How would unRAID deal with a data drive from another server? I know at the minimum I would need to recalculate parity but will unRAID accept the drives in the first place? Or is the option available only to format the newly added drives for use regardless that it is a valid data drive from another unRAID system. The typical scenario is that a drive may be removed permanently, so you click restore and parity is generated based on the new config. Can it also apply to a data drive added from another unRAID system, i.e. click restore and new parity calculated?
  21. Roger that. Probably gonna go with a second unRAID server to mirror my important files. Thanks Joe!
  22. Searched the forums and most people have the TV tuner card on their HTPCs which record to the unRaid server. What I want to do is to install a TV tuner card in the unRaid server and use it to record directly to the disks instead of over the network from another PC. Is there any software or app that can be installed in unRAID for this purpose? Thanks!
  23. I can confirm that with a set of pre-cleared disks with no parity assigned, the "Format"button will still show up. I added one pre-cleared disk first. Formatted it. Filled it up with data. Then added a second one. Formatted it. Filled it up before adding a third parity drive. The "Format" button shows up both times I added a pre-cleared disk.
  24. Parity check completed with zero errors..life is good.. Sidetrack a bit. This experiment also means that I can clone my parity drive for extra protection (manual backup). Of course if it's a 2 data drive failure then I am still screwed. But in a 2 drive (parity & data) failure, I can put in the cloned parity drive and rebuild the failed data drive. My current usage of unRAID is mainly on weekends only. So if I clone my parity drive after each weekend, I should have some extra protection during the week. Not fantastic but requires minimal effort (can be scripted I believe) on my part...until we get RAID6 implemented for unRAID...
