  1. I have never had time to figure out Unraid. The fact that i have a working system is due to a friend of mine. However i cannot keep asking him to look at the server every time i have an issue, hes just as busy as i am and he refuses any payment i offer. So does anyone UK or US offer paid help. There are a couple of things i would like setting up and there are a couple of configuration issues i'd like resolved. Issues include docker image size increasing and notifications need setting up. easy if you know how. Thank you
  2. changed to another GPU and its working. Maybe the 960 is dead. working now though. but not with plex as intended
  3. i thought it should default to the gtx too but i have nothing of the screen. Ill try getting into the bios and having a look
  4. Hi, i was using GUI mode for when im in front of the server. ive just installed a GTX960 for Plex transcoding (still not set that up yet) but now i get no output from either the 960 or the in build graphics. Any ideas what ive done wrong?
  5. i couldnt see anything in there regarding that. its a z390 Aorus Pro.
  6. The power is fine, no power cuts or fluctuations. No i dont have a UPS. The server is on its own circuit and we just dont get power cuts around here. i dont know if the BIOS is set to auto start. Should it be? Should i turn auto start off in the BIOS (if its on) and see if it actually turns off? I opened unraid today and it said it only had an up time of 5 hours.
  7. Hi all. Im pretty new to Unraid so any help would be grateful. I have Unraid set up, i have no VM's and at the moment although i have other dockers installed, all that is running is the Plex docker. i have had the sever running for a while but i have only just noticed an issue since using Plex. Plex stops, so i check the server and the server hasn't rebooted but Unraid has restarted. I wait for everything to load and it all starts working again. Im unsure if this has always been happening or whether this is a new fault but any advice would be great. syslog-192.168.1.223.log i followed a guide on how to set up Syslog and I've attached it but i dont know what im looking at if im honest. Thank you
  8. Hi all, I followed spaceinvaderones video on setting up a windows 10 VM to the letter. Shut down the VM to assign it more cores and i couldnt get back into it. i was greeted by the startup.nsh screen. Followed some vague instructions 'type exit' that takes me to the bios, where i cant do anything other than start a system restore by asking it to boot via ipv4. so thats no good. i try selecting reset, and continue and its just in a loop. so edited it back to 1 core and then i get VM creation errors and its just problem after problem. I have no removed the VM and im going to try a fresh install. Is there any reason why this has happened? have i done something wrong in the set up? no gpu, no passthrough, no sound needed, just tried to set up a basic vm before i decide to buy unraid or not and its not working as expected.
  9. i have just changed cache drive. i unassigned one drive and assigned the new drive. unraid said something like 'disk will be formatted when array starts'. so i started the array. next i have an error 'unmountable, unsupported partition layout'. i stopped the array, unassigned the new drive. Format is greyed out, ive tried preclear but i get he error below 'nvme0n1 is part of unRAID array. Aborted' What am i doing wrong and how can i get this to work. im only testing unraid at the moment so if i have to start again i can. 10. ah ok. where is the option in unraid? im sure there is an option in settings i have to enable but i cant find it
  11. Hi, what settings do i need to enable to be able to access the server on the physical server. im sure i saw an option but i cant find it. ive selected gui at the boot menu and i just get a dash on the command line but no gui. i can still access from another computer on the network but i want to work on the server without it on the network.
  12. well youve sort of answered my question. im trying to move a lot of data and its filling the cache so i increased mover frequency. i think my 1tb cache will be fine once i have everything up and runnning.
  13. Hi all. Im concerned that when my 1tb NVME cache is sitting full of data, any failure would mean losing it. I've changed the mover settings to 'Every 2 hours' because that way i would only ever lose 2 hours work. Am i understanding that correctly? Is there any downside to doing this? If i can avoid buying another 1tb NVME as parity then brilliant but if i have to i will. What are your thoughts?
  14. My thoughts are: i dont know how to use unraid. i cant seem to find an advantage to a docker rather than windows in a VM, especially when i will be running a VM 24/7 anyway. im still toying around with it. i want unraid because ive got a lot of drives and a lot of storage. plus i want to edit video and store media over the network. i have asked about the advantage and i was told that errors that occur in a docker stay contained as they are their own environment but im not sure thats a good enough reason because ive had no issues running plex inside windows for years.
  15. thanks for the reply. so advantage is plex docker can only affect plex docker and nothing else. seems like an advantage but ive been running plex for years first on windows server essentials, then WS2012 and now ws2016 and i cant say ive had any real issues with it or its associated programs causing any issues to anything else. Are there any issues with running a VM? any more advantages of running in a docker? what about backing up a vm? what if i want to load a backup from last week for example?
  16. i have a similar situation. im running everything on and old Xeon serve with Windows server 2016. Im trying to move over to unraid on an old gaming rig, 8700k and a 1070 which will handle everything much better. windows server is staying on current server for automated centralised backups and bare metal restore function. what did you decide to do? i could run everything in a VM on unraid because my Blue iris (cctv) setup needs a windows environment anyway. or i could run blue iris on the vm and plex in a docker or option 3 is i run windows to for plex and blue iris and have a separate (3rd) server just for unraid and use that for centralised media storage.
  17. Hi, im new to unraid. i want to use unraid for plex and vlue iris as well as centralised storage. Blue iris has to be run in a VM. So, should i just run plex in the VM too so plex and Blue iris share 1 gpu, or should i run blue iris in a windows 10 VM and plex via docker? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this? The VM will be running 24\7 anyway. I know very little about unraid and think running plex in a VM will be easier for me as i know windows, but ill run it in a docker if there a significant advantages. (may have to purchase a second gpu from what i understand). id also have o figure out how to add radarr, sonarr and sabnzb etc is there a way to back up a VM if i go that way? Thank you in advance for your help.
  18. so you have a backup server? ok, so i might just throw a system together and put all the old 1tb and 2tb drive i have laying about in it and use that for weekly back ups. the 47tb i have isnt full, maybe 30tb full and your right, not all of it is important. i dont need to back up my plex server to anything special and i think the centralised media could be backed up to an external drive. thank you
  19. maybe unraid isnt the way to go for me then. is there a way to back up unraid to windows? or has anyone got another solution? or should i build a second unraid box with bare minimum specs and have that back up the main unraid box? That seems quite expensive because id need another 50tb of drives
  20. Hi all. Im new to Unraid so I'm after some advice. My old set up was Winders Server Essentials 2016, that was used for centralised back ups of machines, plex server, Blue Iris, etc. It also had a storage space set up using lots of old random drives to create a sever back up. With that, I had the original files on the computers, a copy in the client backups and then again in the server back up. Media and CCTV that originated on the server (TV, Films, CCTV footage) was backed up to the server back up. Now i have built a second server as my needs have changed. i still have WHS2016 and it still does centralised backup of clients (12tb) and it still has a storage space set up for a server back up (12tb) the new Unraid server will handle Blue iris via a VM, Plex and all the associated programs and also contain a centralised media share with folders for our Adobe files so we can used any computer to work on projects directly from the server. So there's the back ground, now my question, how can i back up my unraid server? Everything on it will be the only copy. i have a 14tb parity disk so that's some redundancy but id like to be able to back up everything again. Am i being over cautious? Right now i have nearly 50tb of storage and one 14tb parity. Thanks for the help
