  1. Thanks itimpi . I guess I missed that step in the upgrade instructions. Everything works fine now. rick
  2. I just upgraded unRAID from 4.7 to 5.0.5 and cannot access any movies in windows. Windows explorer lists all of the movies in my user share videovault/movies but when I select a movie I get the message " Windows cannot access \\videovault\movies\2010 .. you do not have permission" Do I need to change some setting? I did not have any problem with 4.7. windows explorer lists all of the individual disks in my array under 5.0.5 which it did not with 4.7 but I cannot access the movies under the disk or user share.
  3. Any other ideas? how can I force a recovery on the drive I replaced?
  4. Attached is the smart status report. You can't recover your data on those drives using unraid. The best you can do is clear your configuration and rebuild parity from the remaining drives. Since you are in this particular mess, I can't see any reason why you shouldn't upgrade from 4.7 to 5.05 or the latest 6 beta, it will be easier in the long run. Back up your flash drive, delete everything on it, and follow the directions to set up a new unraid install. Copy your license file from your flash backup to the config folder, and boot up with the new unraid. Assign ALL the listed drives to data slots, be sure to keep the parity slot empty. Start the array and browse the disk shares, you should see your current good drives content just fine, you may be able to see the content of the drive listed as currently failed, if so, copy it some place safe. Capture a full syslog, and smart reports on all your drives, and we can advise you on the best course of action from there. Actually, thinking about this a little more, if the current red ball drive isn't really failed, you might still be able to recover. Since you haven't posted smart reports for your current drives, it's a little premature to start any action right now. Attach smart reports for all the drives currently installed. smart_status_report.txt
  5. Unraid can only rebuild 1 bad drive. If you have 2 drives fail at the same time, you will lose the data on both. Hopefully the drives haven't fully crashed. Try putting the drives back the way they were, and see if it will give you only 1 red ball and let you start the array. Posting smart reports on all your drives would be a good first step to get the information needed to help you. Unfortunately the first bad drive I detected was sent back to WD for replacement under warrenty so I can not reinstall it. How can I recover if two drives are bad and need replacement?
  6. I just had a hard drive fail on my unRAID system. I replaced the drive and now the disk status menu says "Too many wrong and/or missing disks!". It lists both the old model and serial number and the new drive model and serial number for the disk device. A second drive also has a red ball and the command area says that it is Stopped: Invalid configuration. I am running unRAID ver 4.7. I am using SUPERMICRO CSE-M35T-1B Hot-swap SATA HDD Trays and SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 PCI-Express x4 Low Profile SAS RAID Controller. I tried unplugging and reconnecting all of the drive cables on the HDD trays and controller cards, reseating the controller cards and even reseating the memory but with no difference. I looked at the log file but I don't understand it so I attached it to this message. I replaced bad drives before but never had this happen. Any ides what is wrong? syslog-2014-07-04.txt
  7. Problem solved. I forgot to set the USB device configuration to Hard Disk. It has been a couple of years since I originally set up my server and I forgot about the setting. I am now running the memory test.
  8. I just upgraded my motherboard to the F1A75v-EVO and I can't boot from the USB stick that I have been using. I did not connect any of the hard drives to the board because I wanted to just check the system memory first and make sure that the device configuration is cleared before I start the system. I am using Cruzer micro with 4.7 installed along with unmenu. The light on the flash device is on but the display is blank and the board won't boot. What went wrong?
  9. I need to read about unRAID 5 support I don't want to buy something now that may not be compatible with unRAIDd 5. I also want a board with 6Gbps SATA since the new WD drives I bought are 6Gbps drives. The Supermicro SAS RAID card I am using is only 3Gbps hopefully something new will come out with 6Gbps capability. Rick
  10. Loe L. It appears that my motherboard has died. I opened the case to check all the connections to the drive I am having the problem with and I also reseated the SAS RAID card. The system will now turn on but there is no video. I swapped the graphics card but still no video and now get continuous long beeps which the manual says is a power error. I changed the power supply but still get the beeps and no video. So I guess it is time to change the motherboard. What motherboards are now being used for unRaid? I am now using a Gigabyte GA-EP450-UD3. Is there something new that will support the Supermicro AOC-SASLO-MV8 card? Rick
  11. That was just the end because the full file was over 200M. I am using Supermicro hard disk trays but I will check the connections. I would have thought that if drive Smart test completed that the drive could be accessed and there would not be a loose connection. Rick
  12. I missed answering why I replaced the original drive; I just wanted more space and my case is full so I upgraded the drive to a larger size. The original was working fine before I upgraded it. I did the Short Smart Test check and it said that there were no errors but that Drive Partitions - Not In Protected Array. What does that mean? Short_Smart_Test_06062012.txt
  13. Joe L. Here is the syslog. What I did was bring the array down, replace the 1TB drive with a 2TB drive clicked on the start button and checked the yes box to rebuild. After several hours the rebuild was finished and it said the parity was OK. Today I selected two movies to move to the array. The first one seemed to be copied - it was listed in Windows Explorer but the second one failed to copy. Windows gave an error message saying there was no room left. I then checked unRaid server and saw that the disk had a red ball. I tried to do a file system check in unmenu and got the message that no file system was detected. syslog.txt
  14. Yesterday I replaced a 1TB drive with a 2TB drive. The rebuild seemed to go OK I got a parity OK message after it was done. Today I tried to copy some movies to the array and received the following message from unmenu: "Sorry, no file system detected on /dev/md5". The message came after the first movie was copied to the array and changing the parity from before I replace the drive. Now I don't know if the new drive was rebuilt with the data from the drive I replaced. What can I do? Do I just replace this drive and rebuild? Will the copy of the first movie today prevent the new drive from being restored to the way the original 1TB drive was before I replaced it? Rick
  15. I am looking for a new case. I now have a Lian Li PC-A17B case that hold 9 5.25"drives. I placed 3 CSE-M35T Supermicro SATA HD trays in these 9 slots. They are 5 to 3 trays. I am looking for a case that holds 12 5.25" drives so can use 4 Supermicro SATA HD trays. The cases that hold 12 drives seem to have three removable cages that hold three drives each and the remaining three seem to be at the top and fixed to the case; I can't tell if I could slide a Supermicro SATA HD tray in to these. Has anyone used these Supermicro SATA HD trays in these 12 drive cases?
