  1. Hi All, On my Supermicro MB I have an Nvidia GT1030 setup as a passthrough to support my Ubuntu VM and it works great. What does not work is my UnRaid OS running in GUI mode on the same monitor my Ubuntu VM displays on. Other posts say a second GPU needs to be installed in order to see the UnRaid OS on the same monitor my Ubuntu VM displays on. Is this true? I just purchased an Nvidia GT710 to use as my UnRaid OS default GPU. How do I designate my GT710 card as the default GPU for my UnRaid OS? Additionally, my Supermicro Motherboard has an onboard Aspeed VGA. Is it necessary to disable it? I would appreciate any help. My goal is to use a single monitor for both my Ubuntu VM and my UnRaid OS in GUI mode.
  2. I have an Nvidia GT1030 setup as a passthrough to support my Ubuntu VM and it works great only for my VM but does allow me to see my UnRaid OS on the same monitor I see my VM on. To see my UnRaid GUI requires I powerup my Windows10 PC client an login remotely to my UnRaid server where I see my UnRaid OS on my Windows10 client PC. Will installing a second GPU allow me to see both my Ubuntu VM and my Ubuntu GUI on the same monitor? I just purchased an Nvidia GT710 to use as my UnRaid OS default GPU. How do I designate my GT710 card as the default GPU for my UnRaid OS? Additionally, my Supermicro Motherboard has an onboard Aspeed VGA. Is there any way to disable it? I would appreciate any help.
  3. Itimpi, Thank you for your post. Correct, my Nvidia GT1030 has been passed through using the SpaceInvader One vBIOS dump script. Can you please clarify the following. If the passthrough was done correctly, should my Nvidia GT1030 card be able to support both my Ubuntu VM video output and my UnRaid OS GUI video output on a single HDMI monitor? Or is this thinking just plain wrong? You say I probably isolated it and told unRaid to not use it for its own purposes. Is there anyway I can change this so UnRaid is allowed to use my GPU Passthrough for its own purposes? The anology I have is my Windows 10 Client PC. On my Windows10 PC I can using only a single monitor get access to my motherboard BIOS if I want. If I allow it to boot pass the BIOS it then boots up straight into my Windows10 OS. Once I am inside my Windows 10 OS I can launch a Virtual Machine using VMware. All of this can be done using a single monitor. Am I plainly wrong to think the UnRaid OS should function in the same way using a single monitor? Is there a special hardware configuration I need to use so I can get such funcitioanlity? 4. SimonF, Thank you for your post. To answer your question I have not downloaded the AST (Aspeed Technologies) video driver. I can tell you my Supermicro motherboard has an integrated Aspeed 2400 BMC (Baseboard Management) Controller to provide IPMI 2.O/KVM support on the motherboard. The VGA allows you to see the IPMI and the BIOS when there is a VGA capable monitor connected to the VGA port. Can you share how such an AST driver would get installed? I imagine Supermicro would have to package it together as part of a BIOS update. Do you think installing a separate AST driver will help my UnRaid OS show me the GUI on my VGA Monitor? To answer your second question. YES, if I boot in non GUI mode and wait for all of the code in white text to scroll to the very end it it ends up sitting at a login prompt something like: TOWER> To clarify, if I input the correct account information at this login prompt is the UnRaid OS GUI designed to appear on my VGA monitor? You say I cannot use my Nvidia GT1030 for both my Ubuntu VM output and my VGA output. Is what you say still true if I replace my SuperMicro Motherboards and GT1030 card with different hardware? In other words, do you say I can't see both outputs because that is the way the UnRaid OS is designed or is it because you think I am using the wrong motherboard and GPU? Below is the Block Diagram for my Supermicro motherboard. I hope you can take a look at it so you can tell my why you think I cannot see both video outputs on a single monitor connected to my GT1030 card. Thank you for your time. 5. I think my problem is I am thinking about all of the this in the wrong way. I am expecting my Nvidia GT 1030 card to support both my Ubuntu VM video output and also my UnRaid GUI video output. When I plug my monitor to the VGA port on my SuperMicro Motherboard I see the hundreds of lines of code the Unraid OS shows in the very beginning of the boot process. But then my VGA turns black and does not show my Unraid GUI. So I can't use my UnRaid server as a stand alone PC. I have to get on my Windows 10 client PC and connect to my UnRaid Server using my FireFox browser. If I want to start my Ubuntu VM I can start it from my UnRaid OS GUI inside my FIreFox browser and then eventually I see my Ubuntu VM on my monitor that is connected to my Nvidia GT1030 card. But I see the VM within a noVNC. In short, right now I have two monitors connected to my UnRaid Server. One monitor is connected to my Supermicro VGA port and then I have a second monitor that is connected to the HDMI port on my GT1030 card. My GT1030 monitor only supports my Ubuntu VM launched from my Windows 10 client PC. My VGA monitor does not get me to the UnRaid OS GUI. It turns black after all of the text code comes to a stop. In a perfect world I would like to have a single monitor connected to my GT1030 card that supports both my UnRaid OS in GUI mode and also my Ubuntu VM. Is this thinking right or wrong? And is it necessary for me two have two separate monitors connected to my UnRaid server? I will try disabling my "PCIe ACS override" parameter because right now I have it set to "Multifunction". I hope this will fix my VGA monitor problem going black and showing me my UnRaid OS in GUI mode.
  6. BUMP - Help please. Can someone out there at a minimum please confirm to me why the UnRaid OS does not output a HDMI output signal straight into my Nvidia card while it is booting up. I do not see the many lines of bootup text the UnRaid OS generates before it gets to the GUI.
  7. Will my problem get fixed if I buy an VGA Emulator Plug? Like the one shown in the link below: https://www.amazon.com/dummy-Headless-Display-Emulator-Headless-1920x1080/dp/B075ZMVGQS/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=VGA+Emulator+Plug&qid=1617879592&sr=8-4 My thinking is I get signal output from the onboard VGA on my Supermicro motherboard and if I insert this plug it could redirect the signal to my Nvidia HDMI port which is the port I need my monitor connected to. PLEASE can anybody in this community please HELP. Thank you for your time.
  8. Martsmac, Can you please repost your your syslinux config file after the problem got fixed. I am having the same problem and I would like to see how your syslinux config file is configured. Also is your monitor connected to an Nvidia GPU card? Is it a passthrough setup? I am passing through an Nvidia GT1030 and my monitor remains black eventhough I have my UnRaid OS set to GUI boot mode.
  9. Hi All, I have my UnRaid OS congigured to boot straight into GUI mode as shown in screen capture below. The problem is my UnRaid OS GUI is not appearing on my monitor that is directly connected to my Nvidia GT1030 card. Nevertheless, everything remains black on the monitor because of a lack of signal. The only way I can get control of my UnRaid OS is remotely on my Windows10 client's FireFox Browser. In short, my UnRaid OS is behaving as though it were a headless unit eventhough I have it setup to function as a stand alone PC. My Nvidia GT1030 card is passthroughed and the monitor connected to it successfully displays my Ubuntu VM. So if I can see my Ubuntu VM on this monitor shouldn't I then be able to see my UnRaid OS pre-boot process take place on this monitor and then finish with my UnRaid OS GUI on full display? In short, my goal is to use my UnRaid Server as as a standalone PC, but right now it behaves like headless unit eventhough I have it configured to boot straight into the UnRaid GUI. Any help from anybody in the community will be welcome. I need advice on what configuration changes I need to make so I can use my UnRaid Server as a standalone PC. Thank you for your time. 10. Julianbr, One more question. When you bootup your UnRaid Server do you have it setup to go straight into GUI mode? If yes, do you see your UnRaid OS initial code boot process display on your monitor connected to your Quadro P400 card? And then when your UnRaid OS is done with the pre-boot process do you see your UnRaid OS GUI display on the same monitor? In my case things are not working the way I want it to work. I have setup my UnRaid OS to boot straight into GUI mode as shown in screen capture below, and I do not see the UnRaid OS pre-boot code or GUI appear on my monitor connected to my GT1030 card. The only way I can get control of my UnRaid OS is remotely through my Windows10 client PC. In short, my UnRaid OS is behaving as though it were a headless unit eventhough I have it setup to function as a stand alone PC. Do you have any tips on what change I need to make so my UnRaid OS GUI appears straight into the monitor that is connected to the Nvidia GT1030 card because my goal is to use it as a standalone PC and not a headless unit? Any help from you or anybody in the community will be welcome. Thank you for your time.
  11. Nevermind, I fixed the fix to my audio problem in the link below: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/53062-ubuntu-16041-x64-quotdemonicquot-audio/
  12. Julianbr, Thank you for your help! I got my Ubuntu VM to work through my Nvidia GT1030 card. However, I am now having an audio problem. Within my Ubuntu VM I hear a loud noise that sounds like a rapid fire beeping machine gun that does not stop. Did you have this audio problem in your Ubuntu VM? If yes how did you fix it? Thanks for your help.
  13. Julianbr, Thank very much for replying back. I appreciate your help a lot. To answer your question, YES, when I have it set to VNC I am allowed to make a "VNC Remote" menu selection which envokes my Ubuntu VM inside a VNC window on my Windows10 client. However, if I change VNC to Nvidia GT1030 on my Ubuntu template the "VNC Remote" menu selection button disappears and I do not see my Ubuntu VM on either my Windows10 Client monitor or my UnRaid Server Monitor which is connected to my Nvidia GT1030. I noticed my Machine parameter is set to Q35-4.2 (as shown below) and you are set to Q35-5.1. I will make this change tonight to my Ubuntu template so it matches what you have. The troubleshooting I have performed is listed below and it has been crazy: I have tweaked the "PCIEe ACS override" parameter to "Downstream", "MultiFunction", "Both" and "None". This did not help. I tried editing a GT1030 ROM file in a HEX editor and this did not work. I also tried the STUBBING approach where I added the my Nvidia GT1030 IOMMU ID number to the UnRaid OS Flash Drive and this did not fix the problem. I upgraded from 6.8.3 to 6.9.1 without applying UEFI option and this did not fix the problem. I changed my SuperMicro BIOS from UEFI to Legacy boot and this did not work. And currently I am trying to get the SpaceInvader One vBIOS dump script to work but no success so far. In short, this is the most insanely complex UnRaid problem I have so far encountered. The one thing I have not tried yet is making the code change shown below to the vBIOS script: forcereset="no" to yes Tonight when I get home from work I will make this vBIOS script change to see if it fixes my problem. I pray that by making this script change I am finally able to see my Ubuntu VM on my UnRaid Server monitor setup with the GT1030 card. Also some good news is how you only have a single GPU installed because that matches what I got on my SuperMicro MB. I only have a single slot for a GPU and not two. So I am glad I don't have to buy a MB with two GPU PCI slots because a YouTube video mentions you need to install to graphic cards in order for the ROM dump to work successfully. Again thanks for your help. And I will test it out tonight.
  14. BUMP - Can somebody offer any help. I really need to know if my Supermicro MB and Nvide 1030 card are compatible with this SpaceInvader One vBIOS dump script. This problem is seriously kicking my butt. I need help and I hope Limetech or somebody in the community can send some tips my way .
  15. Julianbr, I hope you are open to some follow-up questions. I have a Supermicro X10SRH-CF with a XEON CPU. I am trying to passthrough an Nvidia Geforce 1030 card. And I'm using the Ubuntu template to setup a VM in my UnRaid. My guidebook is the SpaceInvaderOne YouTube in the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWn6OCWl63o The full details to the problems I am having are described in the link below: https://forums.unraid.net/topic/105179-please-help-vbios-dump-script-does-not-work/?_fromLogout=1 How did you dump the vBIOS yourself? I am using the SpaceInvader One vBIOS dump script and it does not work for me. Did you have two GPUs installed on your Supermicro motherboard? My Supermicro MB only has a single PCI slot big enough for a single GPU. Can you explain how you fixed the Ubuntu network problem? Any tips you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  16. Hi All,I have hit a brick wall and I am kindly requesting help from anybody in the community that may know anything about the error I am getting shown below after I run the SpaceInvaderOne vBIOS dump script. Okay dumping vbios file named 1030fanless.rom to the location /mnt/user/isos/vbios/ cat: rom: Input/output error Um.... somethings gone wrong and I couldn't dump the vbios for some reason Sometimes when this happens all we need to do to fix this is 'stub' or 'bind to the vfio' the gpu and reboot the server This can be done in Unraid 6.8.3 with the use of the vfio config plugin or if you are on Unraid 6.9 or above it can be done directly from the gui in Tools/System Devices .....So please do this and run the script again Additionally, I get the same error even after I perform the fix SpaceInvaderOne mentions in the video link below relating to binding to the Nvidia VFIO which the screen capture below shows I followed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWn6OCWl63o I am running 6.9.1. My motherboard is a Supermicro X10SRH-CF. My CPU is XEON and my GPU is an Nvidia GT 1030. The script does not fix my Nvidia passthrough problem and the recommendation to bind to the VFIO and then reboot does not work. Has anybody out there in the community successfully passed through an Nvidia GT 1030 card? I am beginning to think I should return this card to Amazon and buy some other card. However, not sure which one to buy. Any tips welcome. Does anybody out there have any suggestions on what else I can try to get this script to work correctly? Lastly, if anybody in the community can email SpaceInvader One the link to this post it will be much appreciated. I would like to know what additioanal troubleshooting I can perform so I can get this script to work successfully. Thank you.
  17. Hi All, I am moving forward with applying the Nvidia vBIOS Dump Script he shares in the YouTube video link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWn6OCWl63o But before I apply the script I have the two questions below: My UnRaid server is built on a X10SRH-CF SuperMicro MB setup with a XEON CPU. My primary GPU is an Nvidia Geforce 1030 which is plugged into SLOT6 PCI-E 3.0 X8 (IN X16). Is this vBIOS dump script compatible with this configuration? SpaceInvaderOne does not mention what IOMMU state your UnRaid system needs to be in before applying the vBIOS Dump script. In its origianal state my Nvidia IOMMU VGA and Audio are grouped together under Group 41 when I have my "PCIEe ACS override" set to "NONE" as shown in screen capture below: However, if I have my "PCIEe ACS override" set to "Multifunctional" my Nvidia IOMMU VGA and Audio get split to Group 41 and Group 42 as shown in screen capture below: My question is simple. Which of the two Nvidia IOMMU configurations shown above is the preferred one to use so that SpaceInvaderOne's vBIOS Dump Script has the best chance of working successfully without any error? Thank you for your time.
  18. Thanks for that info Jonathanm. It looks like I have to rewatch SpaceInvader One's YouTube video on UnRaid Shares because I couldn't remember this detail relating to the CACHE disk.
  19. Thank you for your post Jonathanm. The reason has to do with my movie collection migration task. I have a lot of DVDs to copy over to my MOVIES share. My thinking is the migration task will go faster if I copy them over directly to my 2TB SSD CACHE disk. And then in the evening when I am asleep UnRaid automatically moves all of the files located in the 2TB SSD CACHE disk over to my UnRaid Array MOVIES share. In short, the purpose is to take advantage of the speed my 2TB SSD CACHE disk offers. I have four optical drives setup in my Linux Mint VM and I would like to have all four of these optical drives copying over directly to my 2TB SSD CACHE disk to take advantage of the speed the SSD drive offers. When I finish this movie migration task I plan to remove 3 of the optical drives and just leave a single one for occasional movie rips. Nevertheless, thanks for your tip on how I can create a new share and designate it as a cache share. I will go back and revisit my MAIN tab because I did not find such a parameter when I was looking at the Cache disk shown circled below in RED. I think once I configure it as a share it should theortically appear in my Linux Mint VM Network Tree. After I have my CACHE disk appearing within my Linux Mint VM the next step is going to be to find a software app that will automatically move the DVD disk data to the CACHE disk once it detects the drive tray has been closed. Not sure if such a software app like this exists for Linux Mint but I'm going to start looking for one. Again thanks for the help.
  20. Hi All, How do I convert my 2TB SSD CACHE disk to a SHARE? I am running UnRaid 6.9.1 and have a Linux Mint VM installed. I was able to get access to my "MOVIE" share within the NETWORK tree of my Linux Mint VM. However, in the same NETWORK tree my 2TB SSD CACHE disk does not appear. So what type of configuration setting do I need to apply to my 2TB SSD CACHE disk so that it appears within the NETWORK tree within my Linux Mint VM? Does this require a passthrough be setup for my 2TB SSD CACHE disk? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  21. Yes I have and I have several questions regarding his videos. I will be creating a new post to address is NVIDIA passthrough YouTube videos.
  22. Thanks for the help Jonathanm. Yahoo!! I used my ARTIST account login information and it successfully gave me access to my MOVIES share. For some reason the ROOT login account information didn't work which threw me off. Nevertheless, fixing this MOVIES share access problem and my VM optical drive problem means I can finally start on the task of migrating a huge collection of movies to my UnRaid array. All I have left to fix is my Nvidia GT 1030 passthrough problem which is kicking my butt because it insanely complex. If anybody in the community knows of a great STEP by STEP UnRaid Forum post on how to passthrough an Nvidia GT1030 card so a Linux Mint VM recoginizes it please post a link to it. Thank you for your time.
  23. Jonathanm, thanks for the help. I am using a USERNAME and PASSWORD I created while installing my Linux Mint VM so I can login into the Linux Mint VM. So to answer your question it is a different PASSWORD and USERNAME than the one I use to login into my UnRaid Array which is either the "root" or "artist" accounts shown screen capture below. So if I understand you correctly your advise is I create a new UnRaid USER account and use the same USERNAME and PASSWORD I setup for my Linux Mint login setup. Am I understanding you correctly?
  24. Hi All, I am running a Linux Mint VM and having a problem with accessing my "MOVIES" share shown in the screen capture below. I select "Registered User" and enter the same password I use to sign into my Linux Mint VM and I am denied access to my "MOVIES" share. How do I access shares within my Linux Mint VM? What is the correct way because what I am doing below is not working? Additionally, do I need to setup the shares in the area shown below circled in YELLOW? I tried it out and it did not help me get access to my MOVIES share within my Linux Mint share. Any help to help me resolve this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
