  1. To All, Selecting the "UEFI QEMU DVD-ROM QM00001" parameter correctly invokes the Windows10 OS. Thanks for the help. Can somebody clarify why my Windows10 VM is booting up from a DVD drive? Logically, I think the correct type of device is a SATA drive. However, I couldn't find such a Parameter.
  2. Hoopster, Tjb_altf4 and ManHands thank you for the postings. As a newbie I find it interesting the BIOS I see in my Win10 VM is not a duplicate of my SuperMicro Motherboard BIOS. I entered EXIT after the Shell> prompt and this got me to the BIOS shown in the 3 JPGs below. I hope I can have somebody pinpoint what BIOS Parameter I need to focus on changing. I see two DVD drives in the Boot Manager menu and I do not see any SATA parameter. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  3. Hi All, I am new to UnRaid and never have setup a Windows10 VM but being obligated to do so because my Unassigned Devices app does not support Optical Drives. In short, my UnRaid OS indicates the Win10 VM is started as shown in JPG below. However when I select "VNC Remote" command the result I get does not match what I see in SpaceInvader One video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miYUGWq6l24 In short, I do not see the Windows10 OS Install dialog windows. What I see instead is the UEFI Interactive Shell JPG shown below. Can someone in the community please clarify the following for me: Why is my Windows10 OS failing to appear inside my "No VNC" window after I select "VNC Remote" command? How do I get pass this UEFI Interactive Shell screen? What is the correct text to enter after the "Shell>" prompt so my Windows10 OS boots up correctly? I have hit a break wall and the SpaceInvader One YouTube video is no longer any help since he does not explain how to solve this UEFI window error. Therefore, any help I can get will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  4. My Mini SAS SFF-8643 to 4X SATA cable became defective. I purchased it at the Amazon link below: https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Internal-Mini-SFF-8643-Host/dp/B01GPDBHDY/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=B01GPDBHDY&qid=1614654307&sr=8-1 Can anybody in the community please recommend a high quality Mini SAS SFF-8643 to 4X SATA cable to replace my defective one? Is there a cable manufacturer that sells quality cables? I don't want to buy anymore cheap made in China cables.
  5. Thanks for the post JorgeB. I swapped the problematic SATA connector with a spare SATA connector not being used. I then powered up my UnRaid machine and the error no longer shows up. So it looks like I one of the SATA connectors in my Mini SAS SFF-8643 to 4X SATA cable became defective. Can any body in the community please recommend a quality Mini SAS (SFF-8643 Host) - 4X SATA cable I can buy? The one shown in the Amazon link below is what I am currently using and it looks like I need to replace it due to how one of the SATA connectors has already failed: https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Internal-Mini-SFF-8643-Host/dp/B01GPDBHDY/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=B01GPDBHDY&qid=1614654307&sr=8-1 Thank you for your time.
  6. Thank you for the post JorgeB. Below is a new screen capture of what seems to be the same error. However, this time the count has now changed to "143". The "ZA960NM10001_HKRO2YPZ" shown below is the identification number for my CACHE Disk. And after checking my CACHE Disk I see that it is connected to my SuperMicro onboard SAS port using the Mini SAS (SFF-8643 Host) - 4X SATA cable shown in the Amazon link below: https://www.amazon.com/CableCreation-Internal-Mini-SFF-8643-Host/dp/B01GPDBHDY/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=B01GPDBHDY&qid=1614654307&sr=8-1 Can anybody in the community please recommend a superior quality Mini 4X SATA cable I can buy to replace this one that seems to be giving me problems. I don't know much about these cables when it comes to quality so any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also if I change my Cache Disk connection so it connects to a different port on the motherboard, can such a change mess up my UnRaid OS? My concern is such a change is going to cause me UnRaid OS hard drive configuration problems. Thank you for your time.
  7. Hi All, I recently got the error shown below: Unraid Cache disk SMART health [199]: 28-02-2021 15:49 Warning [BORG] - udma crc error count is 4 ZA960NM10001_HKR02YPZ (sdh) On a scale from 1 to 10 how serious is it? Does this error mean I am losing data? I recently migrated a bunch of data from 4 MyBook external drives over to my Share Drives. Each MyBook is 8TB in size for a total of 32TB. The error mentions "Cache Disk" which I find strange because I have not yet put a single byte of data on my Cache Disk. In short, this error was not appearing before I completed this 32TB data migration task. Does anybody in the community have any advice what I need to do to fix this error? Any tips will be welcome. Thank you for your time.
  8. Hoopster, Thanks for the help. I look forward to finishing this huge data migration task which is going to take a very long time to complete.
  9. Thank you to all for your help. I am new to UnRaid OS, so it looks like I have to do some experimentation relating to setting up srX and sgX numbers for MakeMKV and also figure out what SSH is about because I'm not clear yet how all of this fits within my task to populate my MOVIE share drive with pre-ripped DVDs. In short, I have several hundred movies already burned onto DVD disks that were backed up long ago using an app called AnyDVD. So I don't understand why MakeMKV is necessary since AnyDVD already created unlocked DVD backups. To summarize, the task as I see it is to manually load 4 pre-ripped DVD movie disks to 4 separate optical drive trays installed within my UnRaid PC. Then manually close all four trays followed by copying the data from each DVD disk to my 1TB Cache Disk. Then in the evening when I'm asleep I believe the UnRaid OS can be programmed to automatically move the DVD data from my 1TB Cache Disk over to my MOVIE Share drive although I have not yet figured out how exactly this is done. Lastly, to avoid the need to have my Windows10 client PC powered up needlessly, my thinking is by having my UnRaid PC boot up as a standalone PC with its own monitor, keyboard and mouse I could perform this DVD migration task with only a single PC being powered up. However, what I was asking was how I could change it so the "GUI Mode" becomes the new default so I could skip the BLUE Boot selection window shown below. But as Hoopster helped me see there is an "UnRaid OS GUI Mode" Radio button which I totally did not see. I think this radio button will make my UnRaid PC automatically boot into GUI mode without the need to manually make the "GUI MODE" selection shown in the BLUE screen below. Lastly, if a better way exists to perform this task of populating my MOVIE share drive with pre-ripped DVDS please share. This is my first UnRaid Server I have setup and working on populating my Share Drives. If there is a smarter and easier way to perform this task without spending several months on it please share. Thank you for your time.
  10. Hi All, I'm told the UnRaid OS default boot mode can be changed by going to: Main->Boot Device->Click on Flash->then SYSLINUX Configuration. Shown in the screen capture below is the SYSLINUX Configuration GUI. What specific change to the parameters shown below do I have to make so I can change my UnRaid OS default boot mode to a boot mode that changes it to a standalone PC? I need to have the ability to operate my UnRaid server as a standalone PC with its own keyboard, mouse and monitor display for the following reason. I got a lot of movies ripped to DVD disks and my goal is to migrate each disk to my Cache Disk using the 4 separate optical drives I have installed on my UnRaid PC. This approach will help me finish this task faster compared to using the single optical drive installed on my Window10 client PC and doing it remotely. Any help to the specific changes I need to make to the parameters shown in the screen capture below to change the boot mode will be greatly appreciated.
  11. Hi All, I am new to the UnRaid OS and I learned after a lot of research the app called Unassigned Devices does not support optical drives. That is a shame because it would have made things less complicated for me if this app recognized my two optical drives. Nevertheless, I now have learned the only way I can have my UnRaid OS recognize my optical drives is by installing a Virtual Machine (VM). I plan to install Ubuntu because it requires no product key. In contrast Windows 10 requires a product key. Can someone in the community be so kind to clarify the following. After I install my Ubuntu VM will my two optical drives appear as PC data devices automatically on my Ubuntu VM desktop? Or do I have to install some kind of VM plugin so my Ubuntu VM recognizes my two optical drives? Lastly, I intend to use my two optical drives for the task of migrating a lot of movies I have burned onto DVD disks straight into my UnRaid OS 1tb Cache Disk. And then in the evening when I am asleep I want my UnRaid OS to automatically move all of the movie files straight to my Movies Share Drive. In short, will my Ubuntu VM be able to recognize my 1tb Cache Disk as a share drive? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  12. Hi All, My goal is to use my UnRaid system as a PC with a HDMI LED monitor, keyboard and mouse connected to it. And not use it as a headless unit via my network. The problem is I am using a SuperMicro motherboard and it only has a VGA out connector on it. So I am adding an old Nvidia Galaxy video card to my SuperMicro motherboard so I can make it possible to connect my HDMI monitor to my UnRaid System. It would be great if my HDMI LED monitor supported the VGA format but it does not. Can someone in the community please clarify the following. How do I get my UnRaid OS to work with my Nvidia card being that Nvidia does not make a driver specifically coded for the UnRaid OS? Is there any add on I could install that will enable my UnRaid OS to support the HDMI display monitor standard without the need of installing an Nvidia driver? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
  13. Dlandon, Thank you for your post. Just as a hypothetical idea. What if I buy a portable optical drive that connects via a USB 3.0 male connector to the female USB 3.0 port on my UnRaid NAS, will Unassigned Devices work with such a USB 3.0 connection? My hunch is UD might look at the portable optical drive as if it were an external hard drive or thumb drive connected to the USB 3.0 port. You mention dockers. Could you please name a docker app that supports an Optical Drive ? As for virtual machines, that is my last option because it seems to be the most complicated one.
  14. Hi All, I am new to the UnRaid OS. I installed the Community Addon and this was followed by installing the Unassigned Devices app. I have two Samsung optical drives. Each one is connected directly to the motherboard SATA ports. When I insert a 4.36GB DVD disk into the optical drive tray and close it my Unassigned Devices app does not recognize the data on the 4.36GB DVD disk. It's as though the optical drive is invisible to my Unassigned Devices app. Can someone please confirm to me if the Unassigned Devices app is designed to support Optical Drives? Currently, on my system it seems Unassigned Devices only recognizes a Thumb Drive Stick or a MyBook external hard drive if either one is connected to the USB 3.0 port. I would be very grateful if anybody in the community could give me some advice on how I can get my Unassigned Devices app to recognize my Samsung Optical drive connected to my motherboard SATA port. Thank you for your time.

  16. Squid, Thank you for your post. Below is a rough photo of my UnRaid OS after it has completed the bootup process in what I now know is called default mode. In this mode it asks for a USER and PASSWORD at the very end. I thought from this point it was a matter of typing in a terminal command to convert over to GUI mode. I didn't think the change required I make it within the GUI itself. I learned something new and thanks for the help.
  17. Hi All, I am new to UnRaid OS. I hope someone can clarify the following. How do I run my UnRaid NAS machine as a standalone PC? So far I am only able to operate my UnRaid NAS remotely from my Windows client PC. And if I connect a keyboard, mouse and monitor to my UnRaid NAS and allow it to bootup to the point where it asks for USER and PASSWORD information the UnRaid OS GUI does not appear after I enter this login information. In short, I have a 4TB MyBook hard drive which I want to unload to my UnRaid NAS by using Krusader all within my UnRaid NAS machine and not remotely from a Windows client PC. Any advice welcome.
  18. Hello, I am experiencing a data transfer speed problem I hope somebody in the community can clarify for me. I have my Windows RAID6 PC and my new UnRAID NAS connected peer to peer using two MCX311A-XCAT ConnectX-3 cards. On my UnRAID NAS I set the Mellanox MTU found in Network Settings to a 9000 value. I also set my Windows RAID6 PC Jumbo Packet parameter to 9000. In short, my data transfers start great at around 900 MB/s but after 30 or so seconds it drops down to around 75 MB/s. Why does it drop? Is it because I am not using a Cache Disk? The files are being moved from my RAID6 Array located in my old Windows PC over to my new UnRAID NAS share via a Mellanox peer to peer connection. Is 75 MB/s data transfer speed the best speed I can expect if I am not using a Cache disk? I honestly thought setting up two Mellanox cards would give a much faster speed than the 75 MB/s I am getting. Also, does my UnRAID v6.8.3 OS support SMB3? I tried looking for it in the Windows SMB setting and could not find a SMB3 setting under the Settings Tab in the UnRAID OS. I'm trying to learn how to change my UnRAID OS from SMB to SMB3 so I can get a faster speed. I hope somebody can give me some advice on how to make a change to SMB3. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.
  19. Thank you to everybody in the community for your help. Here is an update. I used the same SpaceInvaderOne IP numbers he uses in his video and I was still getting the same Windows Network Diagnostics report I posted above. The only difference being this new report was showing the new SpaceInvaderOne IP numbers I changed to. That was disappointing because I thought having unique Mellanox IPs for each machine was going to fix the problem, but it did not. Fortunately, I stumbled across a couple Youtube videos that filled the missing information from SpaceInvaderOne's video. They suggested I change the last six digits for both IPs to ".200.1 and .200.2" as opposed to ".11.199 and .11.197". They also suggested I open my Windows10 HOST file and add to this file the Mellanox IP I'm using on my UnRaid PC and the Mellanox IP I'm using on my Windows10 PC. For good measure, I also added the IP number for my UnRaid TOWER inside this HOST file. I figured it will probably help if I take this extra step. One other change I made that was my own idea was to change my share drive from PRIVATE to PUBLIC on my UnRaid NAS. After rebooting both machines I was able to successfully map a network drive on my Windows10 PC pointing to the MOVIES share on my UnRaid NAS. That made me one happy camper because this problem has consumed more hours I care to remember. In closing, I have no idea what change I made actually fixed the problem because I did several things. However, I am curious about one thing. I prefer to keep my share as PRIVATE. If I change my MOVIE share from PUBLIC back to PRIVATE is this going to mess up my Mellanox peer to peer connection? Any opinions welcome. Thank you again. 20. Vr2lo and tjb_altf4, Thank you for your help. I went back and took a closer look at the YouTube video I linked above. At time marker 10:33 minutes he uses a 192.168.11.199 IP for the Unraid PC. And at time marker 16:55 minutes he uses a 192.168.11.197 IP for the Windows PC. But the confusing part is how SpaceInvader says he is using the same IP he used in the UnRaid PC when he is typing in the IP for the Windows PC. In short, thanks for letting me know both IPs need to be different because I was thinking something else. Also, I don't know what an APIPA address is but I plan to use the same IPs SpaceInvader uses shown below: UnRaid PC IP = 192.168.11.199 Windows PC IP = 192.168.11.197 Will such an approach create a potential problem? Again, thanks for your help.
  21. Hi All, I am struggling to get my peer to peer Mellanox MCX311A-XCAT ConnectX-3 connection to work as it is covered in SpaceInvader's YouTube video in the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMMopEiwiEo I have two identical cards. One in setup on my Windows RAID6 PC and the other is on my new UnRAID PC. My goal is to migrate the data from my Windows PC to my UnRAID PC. The Windows PC has the latest MLNX_VPI_WinOF-5_50_53000 driver installed. And I used TCP-IP in my Windows network setup window to configure the card. The IP I am using on both PCs is 169.254.71.166 because Mellanox says it is an autoconfigured IP. And the cable connecting both PCs is made by CISCO. Below is the report I got from my Windows PC after I ran a Troubleshooting wizard. It seems my Windows PC detects the Mellanox card but in cannot communicate. Also below is a screenshot of my UnRaid Network setup for my Mellanox card. Can some kind person in the community please help me configure my UnRAID PC so it works correctly with the Mellanox card? What parameters do I need to change in my UnRAID system so it communicates with my Windows PC? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  22. Hi All, In the process of setting up my Mellanox card on my UnRaid system I ended up breaking my network connection by duplicating the same network setup parameters SpaceInvader shows in his YouTube video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMMopEiwiEo In short, I am no longer able to connect to my UnRaid system using my Windows10 client PC via my FIreFox browser. What UnRaid Terminal command do I use to RESET my network ETH0 network parameters to default values? I have to do it using my UnRaid Terminal because I am unable to do it using the UnRaid GUI being how I am no longer able to connect with my Windows 10 client. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
  23. Ford Prefect, Thank you for such an excellent explanation. I seriously thought it was going to be a "plug and play" endeavour to mate both of my PCs with a CAT6 cable and enable them to interchange data. But thanks to your post I now see there is a lot more to it. Fortunately, I stumbled across the excellent YouTube video in the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMMopEiwiEo According to what is shown in the video what I want to do can be done using two Mellonx cards joined together with a special cable. I plan to follow the video and post the results I get. Again, thanks for your help.
  24. Hi All, My goal is to setup a peer to peer CAT6 cable connection between two PCs using only the LAN ethernet ports already included in each of the motherboards. PC#1 is my UnRaid PC and PC#2 is my Windows RAID5 PC. I need to migrate 20TB of data from the Windows RAID5 PC over to my UnRaid PC. Right now in my Windows RAID5 PC I am unable to find an IP for my UnRAID PC eventhough the two PCs are connected together with a CAT6 cable. In short, if I go to the Windows Network Sharing Center I cannot find any UnRaid PC IP address. My hope is somebody in the community could offer some advice on what is the correct way to link two PCs together. Do I need to use a router between the two PCs? Or is a single CAT6 cable connection between both PCs adequate? Any help will be welcome. Thank you.
  25. Vr2lo, I noticed while my UnRaid OS was working through the bootup process there were several lines that mentioned Mellanox. So at the least I can say my UnRaid OS is recognizing my Mellanox card and went through some kind of internal setup for it. However, the problem is my Windows RAID5 PC which holds the data I want to migrate over to my UnRaid PC. The Mellanox card setup on my Windows PC seems to have a problem. I think for now I'm trying a different approach which is doing a peer to peer CAT6 cable connection between both PCs using only the LAN ethernet port already included in the two separate motherboards. I will make a different post to cover this new approach.
