  1. I recently switched by QNAP NAS to run unraid. Everything is so much faster and better, except UPS behavior. CURRENT BEHAVIOR for very short outage - power outage starts - unraid detects this - power comes back - unraid detects this - no problem CURRENT BEHAVIOR for intermediate or prolonged outage - power outage starts - unraid detects - under configurable conditions, unraid shuts down - power comes back, but… - … unraid on QNAP remains powered off and inaccessible from remote location REQUESTED BEHAVIOR for prolonged outage - power outage starts - unraid detects this - power outage continues beyond configurable conditions (e.g. time criteria or battery level) - unraid stops array, unmounts all unassigned devices and remains idle, but powered on - outage continues, battery runs out - QNAP experiences loss of power - … time passes - main power returns, battery starts charging - QNAP powers up because BIOS power is set to "last state" - unraid boots up but does not start array until battery reaches a certain charge state, e.g. 50% - once battery sufficiently charged, assume power is stable, so start array and other services REQUESTED BEHAVIOR for intermediate outage - power outage starts - unraid detects this - power outage continues beyond configurable conditions (e.g. time criteria or battery level) - unraid stops array, unmounts all unassigned devices and remains idle, but powered on - power returns - unraid waits for battery to reach a certain state, e.g. 50% - once battery sufficiently charged, assume power is stable, re-start array and other services The QNAP OS does have the option to choose a powered-on idle state rather than a complete shutdown, when on batter power. The slight difference is that once power is restored, it clean reboots rather than just restarting all services from its idle state. In any case, once power is restored, it is once again reliably accessible from a remote location without needing on-site intervention. It would be so good to have this behavior in unraid. Thanks to all the developers of unraid and the UPS plugins.
