Hi Guys Firstly forgive me, my heart is thumping a tad more than normal. I went to New Config, All. I pressed Yes I want to do this, Apply and Done. At least I'm certain I did. This is what I see: Have I done something wrong..?

I think you may be over thinking the cool stuff your plugin does - I don't really care about seeing the docker apps like plex, emby, jellyfin etc. I have 3 GPUs: I have a 750 for a Ubuntu VM which runs HomeSeer. a 1660 which I use for Plex and Kodi through a VM, Finally I have a usb-c to hdmi adaptor which i plan to use, maybe this falls under iGPU - I'm not exactly 100% aware how thats going to work, which is why your plugin is handy. Or i use the iGPU on the motherboard if it doesn't work. But I was hoping to play around with iGPU and GX1660 to see which is better with transcoding (I didn't really appreciate its one or the other with PLEX). I guess it depends if i get that adapter to work - i think there more made for apple and google laptops. I am still waiting for my new motherboard. But I've almost got the system ideal for how i plan to use it in the future. In addition I really like to see the fan, the PCIe details, especially the temperature, and the encoder/decoder states on my dash board so I know how hard its working. Hence would love to see multiple GPUs. But its OK - I appreciate what it does and that its free, and I'm thankful. Its a good plug-in, i really like it!

Hello I'm just looking for advice how to reassign disk numbers (as safe as possible) without moving files? They do have data and shares. Is there an easy way to make: Disk 1 to become Disk 5. Disk 2 to remain as Disk 2. Disk 3 to become Disk 8. Disk 4 to become Disk 13. Disk 5 to become Disk 11.

Hi All The problem was caused through Windows share, with the hack root share. Though I appreciate the words hack, I didn't realise it bypassed most of UNRAIDs permissions. It is actually very useful.. I am migrating a lot of data from a QNAP NAS and Thecaus NAS, my movies folder is 9TB on a RAID5. So the root share and the disks share is really useful as i can specify which folders i want under which drive before copying (6tb drives on my unraid NAS), for example all 1080p on one drive, then childrens & drama & documentary on another drive (its unlikely I'm going to switch between the two when selecting movies) so it prevent unnecessary spin up of the drive. Essentially i'm trying to optimise the efficiency of how I will use plex and kodi. So this is the use case and why its helpful. When migrating lots of data (well for me - its a lot) and were talking about 22TB - it is handy to have this access with different size drives. Similarly i don't want one share for all, as i like to separate tv shows, movies, software, documents etc. Its not intended to be a frequent use thing, as I like to use and manage the shares and permissions. However it sounds like I'm just working outside of the capability of Unraid using the root share and I thought it was OK having seen the video. So I have reverted back to having a lot of different shares in my Windows computer and doing it that way. I am then using a plugin called "Unbalance" to move the folders to where I want them to go which doesn't encounter the issues I had on Krusader or Windows SMB using root share - the root share being the issue. This is because unbalance uses the UNRAID shares directly. I'm happy as it works, all be it - it is a super inefficient way of transferring data and then having to retransfer it between drives e.g. transfer to the share, then move folders from drive 3 to drive 2, then drive 2 to 3. Some of these transfers are taking above seven hours for a couple of TBs then more hours from drive to drive. Maybe in the future it may be considered, I am sure I can't be the only one wanting to do this and optimise how they migrate a lot of data choosing which disks it falls on. I will also delete the 'hack' as I agree - its not any good, and clearly I've found issues with it when using multiple drives. Thank you for getting back to me @jonp @ljm42

Hi So I got the new case today - great! CPU is here too, but no motherboard yet. In my test rig I have noticed it generates a lot of heat (8x 3.5" HDDs), and the HDDs temperatures read between 32 and 36degC. The thing is there must be about 1cm between each drive in my fractal test-rig case with anti-vibration pads. This new case has hot swaps and the drives fit flush, there is 1mm gap, and no vibration pads and I guess I am a little concerned with the SAS backplane as you can see (only on the far left side is a small gap of 2cmx1cm - this may get toasty! Is anyone else running a setup similar and do the HDDs get hotter than what I've suggested above? Is there a way in UNRAID to see which disks are spinning up/spun up? (Is it done by watching the READS/WRITES in the Main tab?) or is there a better way? Is there a way to track the spin up (e.g. just for me to work out if it is acting how I think it is)? Do you have any suggestions for temperature management? Thanks Chris

No its an SMB entry from one of SpaceInvaders very good videos. When I connect to NAS I want to be able to see all my folders as I alternate between them all, with a single mount like my QNAP and my Thecaus. I don't like having to setup multiple shares to each shared folder, but I want the shares individual to control and manage. This is sort of besides the point - i think. Why would it differ and give me space constraints writing within a share, through a mnt/user/ mount instead of a share mount?

Hi I used unbalance to move to disk 2; I then erased and formatted disk 3. I shared disk 2 and 3 and now have 1.81TB free on disk 2m and 3.14TB on disk 3. I have continued to move files and encountered the error again for a directory at 400GB. In addition I have not heard back from Unraid support. I am at a loss. My trial ends in 12 days and this is a deal breaker for me, I really need to be able to utilise the space on the drives. Does anyone know what is going wrong? The only change from my share above is that it now includes DISK 2 and DISK 3. *** UPDATE *** when i map the share directly it works, i was using one called rootshare which was made in my SQL. Could this make a difference? I tried it a couple of times and get the same error through that share. I have a solution I guess, but not the understanding? Hello, on drive 3 - I have 2.5TB free on a 6TB xfs hdd. I have a share called "Movies" it only includes disk 3 and as a minimum set at 100MB (changed from 0kB) I am trying to copy files from SMB (513GB and it is not able due to not enough free space). I have rebooted. There is a post which says using Krusader may somehow double account storage. Whilst backing up my QNAP - I decided to use Krusdar with a QNAP smb mount point, into the drive. I am currently unsure if I went direct to disk3 or to the user folder > Movies. What I haven't got from the posts I read, is how to correct and fix the issue without a format. Can any one help out how to fix issue? The frustrating this is Krusader allows me to still copy the 513GB to the hdd through User > Movies from my QNAP SMB share). I really would prefer not having to transfer all data from the QNAP again (it has been fairly slow). Can anyone help? Thanks Chris

Great as the eBay person did seem very knowledgable and really really helpful. But it does say it needs pcie 3.0. But it sounds like you also know your stuff. So do you support the idea of using 3 of these or a sas expander like the HP 468406-B21 or IBM 46M0997 ServeRAID Expansion Adapter 16-Port SAS Expander. The IBM I’ve seen a video which shows how it can be used as a 24port My thinking is the HP will be better as I think the 46M0997 has less bandwidth? really curious to know your thoughts on if it is pcie3.0 or 2.0 (as that has potential to resolve loads of issues). Also if you think 3x HBAs or one HBA with one of the 2 expanders and if so which expander? thanks chris

@JorgeB this post link is really useful. I sort of wish I knew it existed before I bought what I did, and could have asked some pros! Am I correct then in saying that posts doesn’t recommend the M5110 flashed with the p20 IT firmware (which I bought from eBay saying it was good for unraid)? The M5110 is pcie3.0 x8 as a minimal and gives me 2x miniSAS or 8x SATA If I want a full 24; the post recommends a HBA 9305-24i (which is about £500 on eBay). It does a full 24 drives and only needs a single slot? Does the RES2SV240 require a HBA controller to link up? Do you have a recommended one I could use for the 24 HDDs? What is the minimal in pci requirements? Gen and slot size? Sorry the post is good but I feel it’s a bit above my current capability to understand correctly as intended. It’s also looks more expensive than I had considered. What is clear to me is to avoid cheap devices I found on Amazon, no doubt. Thanks for any help. unraid would really benefit for some newb guides on this matter, with some suggestions Ba drive size and speeds.

Hi I just read that using Unraid the disks spin up as needed and down when not needed to help maintain hdd life. It is meant to be ideal as a PLEX server. Is this correct, using PLEX as a docker app? Also would it still be true running PLEX within a VM with a mount to the shares (disks run up/down as required)? I am conscious as I want to run PLEX in a VM (reason being is I plan to run it with Kodi and limited on pcie slots for GPUs and want to use the GPU for hardware transcoding, as well as sending Kodi via HDMI around the house)(the other VM using the other HDMI). I imagine both docker/vm spin up/down as required? Second question, a SATA expansion is used on pcie 2.0 x1 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0828FY1B2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_D4FGSE74EC63GZQFP1BJ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 it says it can achieve communications up 2.5gbs, however I would have thought it would be more like 500mbps. it says it supports 6gb/s devices but they wouldn’t be running at 6gb/s. If the. Mechanical drives really only read/write at say 100mb/s. Why bother having sata interfaces at 6gb/s? Is this purely a concern for sata SSD. (I’m assuming NVME only works in M2 slots). Now in my unraid test rig - I don’t have PCIe 3 which is needed for my M5110 HBA controller (it looks pretty unused next to my server!) the master plan is - that it is going to a SAS backplane for 8 drives. Going back to question 2 why is this using a PCIe 3.0 x8 slot (minimal) for 2xSAS (8 drives)? Is this because of a single cable is being used and I could have 4 SSDs? I’m just confused why I can essentially do the same on this dubious pcie2x1 yet the hba is pcie3x8? Question 4 why would I bother with SAS and HBA when I could use a pcie to 8 sata ports? I choose the HBA because of a Linus video where he connect something ridiculous like 20 something 16TB drives. But he explained about the HBA with octopus’s to sata. But why not use this pcie card to sata! he also mentioned to get one not designed for raid. The server rack I want has either 16 or 24 hotswap drives (4 mini sas or 6 mini sas). I guess I’m struggling to see why a hba would be better in this case, there’s clearly a reason it has a sas backplane?? Apologies for the fundamental learning questions here. I have been toying with an idea of my final rig being a supermicro board with 4x pcie 3.0 LGA1200 for cpu transcoding 10900K and 2VMs (2x HBA, 2x GPU). Though today I also contacted OneStop to ask how much an expansion board and kit would cost (I imagine a lot! Hello I’m planning on having 2 VMs running on UNRAID and a PLEX server. I plan to have 2 GPUs. These are: 750ti and a rtx1660 So the RTX1660 is needed for HVEC265 transcoding for PLEX. The 750ti will be running my Ubuntu HomeSeer (a web-based server) which has a front end called HSTouch. It doesn’t require a lot of GPU processing. But I do need a HDMI output. so that’s PLEX and 1 of my VMs. Ok so the question is - I want a second VM of Ubuntu for Kodi. The kodi will be outputting at UHD 4K 60hz. My question is - do you know if I can use the RTX1660 HDMI out if I’ve set my PLEX docker for Hardware Transcoding. thanks for any advice chris

Hi all I am looking to create a Ubuntu VM for Kodi and HomeSeer (probably 2 separate ones). My question is - I will need access to a USB for a ZWave.Me USB stick. Can VMs access the USB and has anyone had any experience with any of the software mentioned working with a VM on Unraid? Another question, can I output the VM to a HDMI? Is that at all possible? thank you @squid I actually have unraid.net set up although I didn't realise that was what it was called. I also didn't appreciate that the depreciated method meant it had been superseded by the net functionality - I had figured somewhere that the plugin was an older version. Anyway I have both backups .net and unassigned working and tested. Thank you

Thank you for your help. So if my: appdatam domains, isos, system, www folders are on the cache drive like the following image. I will remove them from excluded. Is this meaning that these folders and constantly fast access on the cache drive. And the TVshows/movies remain on the array but cached for quicker read access?

Hello I am wanting to backup key folders to a backup drive from my cache drive and array disk4 - these are appdata, system, www, domains, isos, flash. This is to an unassigned device backup SSD. I have done all of them successfully except flash. Is there any way to mount the flash device as a share within a docker app? I have selected to share my flash drive as a SMB with private and read only access through UNRAID webGUI. Or is there a plugin which can backup the flash drive daily or weekly? Thanks Chris

@John_M - John thankyou! I cant believe it was that easy, feel a proper pleb. I set the cache to yes, then selected backups. I tested it by running a backup. Tomorrow I'll look into how I would schedule iso's and flash. Thank you

Hi Please can I ask for some support for my test rig. I have 2 pools. Pool 2 consists of a "backups" pool with sdc HDD in xfs, inside the disk is 4 directories: backups\backup_appdata backups\backup_flash backups\backup_iso backups\backup_VM Now the backup plugin works a treat as the destination share I can set /mnt/backups/backup_appdata - direct to the disk no messing. The next one I have tried is VM, I use the VM Backup plugin (unlike docker I cannot add a mount). So I thought - I know I will add shares. So I add the following shares: backup_appdata backup_flash backup_iso backup_VM However when I select Included disks - I can only see: disk1, disk3, disk4. Any advice would be very welcome
