Can someone explain like I'm 5 how the Dynamix folder caching plugin would help my system? I think I'm misunderstanding what it's really for. Is it only for when browsing directories or does it actually make the system much faster? Someone mentioned in another search it causes the cpu to use a lot of power. Is this still the case?

they have the * for the temps does it stop registering that if they're spun down?

I apologize I lied. I can't run diagnostics because I'm not home and it just sits there stalled out. But I did make one other change. I did run powertop and the subsequent commands found on the original thread here trying to lower my power consumption. Could that be doing it?

Now more. I added two drives yesterday which are going through their pre-clear then I did swap USB from the USB key to a USB DOM. I did a backup to the DOM and put that in. Everything booted and was running fine all night without issue. Do you think this could have something to do with the USB? Right now I just need it to make it a couple more hours for the pre-clear to finish then I'll do a reboot.

Looked at my server and suddenly several drives were showing gray. They didn’t say they were being emulated or anything. Then about 10min later they changed up. Anyone had this happen before? When I click on each drive they show everything is ok. bottom image happened first then later the top. I’m on my phone.

As an update I went and ran the nvidia script again and more confusingly it says that it is now at power state p8 and using over 55w 😞 Is this possibly an early adopter tax I'm having to pay right now?

When it try the auto command it gives an issue but now when I reload powertop it shows GOOD for everything. What am I doing wrong? My cpu is 11600k and gpu is rtx 4060. Thank you for any help. Right now the rig is using more power than it did even a week ago and I don't know if it's because of nvidia drivers or what.

Server is an 11600k, 64GB, currently 16 drive, 2 nvme, rtx 4060, with two 12 drive HP disk shelves that I rewired to work with a regular Corsair Platinum PSU. Right now I'm in the process of upgrading my media running Radarr, Sonarr, prowlarr, and Sabnzbd. I have one instance of plex running and it's transcoding 4k hevc->1080p on plex for a friend. I've done the spaceinvaderone userscript for Nvidia for the RTX4060 but when I run the script manually it shows a GPU usage of about 55watts. I'm not using the GPU for anything outside of transcoding. There's nothing connected to it. The RTX 4060 idle power consumption should be 11watts or so bit even when not in use it never seems to go down. Igor's lab found similar results between windows 10 and windows 11. Under windows 10 the gpu would pull 11w but under windows 11 it's 51 idle. I'm transcoding one stream at the moment but that should take the wattage to I think around 16 watts. This is all a first step to try and figure out where all the power is going. My server is the only thing plugged into the backup power supply. I did check the CPU under tips and tweaks and it was in Performance mode. I've changed that to power save but since it's being utilitzed I haven't seen anything happen yet. Are there things I could do withing unraid's settings to lower my overall power usage? I'll be honest and say I have no idea how much power HBA cards use nor the two big fans in the front. diagnostics power.zip

I put a rtx 4060 in my system for transcoding. $300 bucks and is a powerhouse. However even though I'm not using it at all it's still using a lot of power per the user scripts. I followed SpaceInvaders script (it's what I clicked on to see the power usage). Is there something else I can do to lower the wattach? It should be sitting much lower when not in use.

Ok so I managed to get it to pass the PLAN phase without having any errors. I had to go down several directories. /data wouldn't work but /data/media/movies would. My guess is because of how it structures it. It could then take the file sizes of each movie and put it in the appropriate directories (I'm hoping). This seems a bit of an oversight but glad it's at least something that can still work.

There is but what am I supposed to do with it? Isn't the whole point that I select what directories I'd like to move then I have them moved? If I have to go in and manually select groups of files to move one disk at a time then I don't see the point of the plugin. I also have some older 8TB drives that are 4.5yrs old if I go to remove them I'd hope I could do so before they really fail and by an automated process.

I don't see anything about "to-do" but it says in the plan that it will not move /data and when I try to move anything it never does. It seems like it's trying to target only one disk even though I have many selected.

I'm on unraid 6.11.5 and would like to clear one of my 14TB drives to turn it to a second parity drive. It appears unraid is trying to move everything to one particular drive and not spread it through the other drives. I don't believe I'm doing anything wrong.

Is this plugin broken now days? I'm on 6.11.5, have done the docker permissions. I start it and do "Plan" only for it to tell me that it can't move /data because there's not enough room on the disk it's trying to write to. Which is true, I don't have any one disk with enough space but was hoping to spread it among all the other disks.

Ok but I have 50TB free spread out over several disks. It's not like I have a 14TB free. How would I move that data to other disks?

I have 50TB of free space so want to take one of my 14TB drives and move it to parity. Right now I only have one. Unbalance doesn't seem to want to work. Keeps saying the /data file is too big for any one disk even though they're all selected. Is there no simply way to just move the data off a drive to the array and have remove it?

So instead of having everything /mnt/cache is should be /mnt/system_cache because that's what one of the drives is named now?

I'm seeing this thread which sounds like an issue for me. All of my dockers are /mnt/cache/********** which is what I've always done. I removed my 2.5" SSDs and replaced them with two nvme drives each as their own drive. I have a 1tb for the appdata and another drive general use. The 1tb system drive shows 139GB used for the appdata. Is there something I should have done after swapping out the drives where it is perhaps putting everything into RAM instead using the nvme?

As an update. Even when doing a safe shutdown I lose everything. I went and did a full setup of the system and backed up the appadata so a quick restore there is getting things running but it's not a fix. unRAIDServer-6.11.5-x86_64.zipWhenever I restart my server, which right now has been a lot, everything goes blank like it's never been used. This never happened in the past and the only things I've changed was going from SSD to NVME drives. During this process there may have been a setting or something that changed. Luckily have several days of this I spent today putting everything up correctly then made an appdata backup which I'm now loading again. What causes this? It's like my server has short term memory now. I do have my appdata set to use the cache. I have two NVME drive and one called system cache and the other called general cache. A weird thing I've noted is the appdata is Cache ONLY and showing 3.68TB free however I don't know where that figure comes from. The system cache is only 1TB. I get in and have errors that my key isn't activated. I tried going to connect and it simply ends up giving a JSON error at the end. I go look at the my servers and can see my pro key listed there as well as it showing the current server online. What's the deal here? It wants me to buy a second license. I downloaded the pro key then copied it to the directory as it instructed and it's still not working. What other options do I have?

Ok replacing the docker image didn't do anything except erase everything I had and again is making me start from scratch. Maybe I wasn't clear on what's going on here. My server lost power and reboot. All the dockers, like plex, are acting as if they've never been used before and my settings are all gone. Sonarr kept it's settings and database but radarr/plex/overseerr did not. Deleting the docker image definitely was not the solution. I lost my custom network and while my install settings were saved everything is still acting like it's never been using before and requiring new setting up.
