  1. I run a monthly check if I haven't done a lot of drive changes (upgrade to larger). Then I will skip that month and continue monthly the next.
  2. In my signature. Unraid-6.6.6 MB: Asrock H77-M, Intel i5 [email protected], Norco SS-500 Hot Swap Rack module x3, HP H220 Controller X2, Kingston 240 DDR3 Sdram 16GB memory, Cooler Master 590 case, 14 data drives, 2 parity drives, 114 TB storage and still growing.
  3. I just went through the replacement process of both parity drives from 8TB to 10TB, one at a time (pic with black lines on bottom). I then used the 2 8TB (old parity Drives) in array, replacing 4TB drives, Replaced both 4TB drives at once (in pic with red line). I then replaced a 8TB drive in array with a 10TB drive (Green line top). Just thought I would give you an idea of times.
  4. Well according to my smart reports which I downloaded from the Diagnostics report and from my dashboard , all looks good. But I think I will take all dockers offline and replace one at a time just to be on the safe side. Thanks for all the info .
  5. I would imagine the extended test would be the go to instead of a short. I do think I have both on most of the drives.
  6. I have attached my log for parity checks. Not that it would make a difference but with over a year of checks with no errors, what percentage would you say are my chances of doing both compared to one at a time? parity-checks.log
  7. I just purchased 2 10TB drives. These 10's would replace the 8TB drives I have now as parity. Can I do both at one time or do I need to replace just one at a time. I figure if anything goes wrong I would have the original to fall back on. Thanks Curt
  8. I like you have/had all HGST drives and started the shucking route with Seagates and WD. I have had one bad drive from WD and 2 from Seagate. For the price I bought the drives and the failure of them, I felt I got a good deal. Most of the 8TB drives were purchased for under 150. I shucked them and formatted to XFS, then ran drive rebuild. Now I have most of the 8TB drives for almost a year without a problem. Server is running cooler, parity check are taking less time. I am happy with the shucked drives. The 8TB seagates run a tad warmer than the WD drives, but all are 5400rpm drives. Just thought I would throw that out there.
  9. Yesterday while watching a movie streaming from my server, it just shut down. Found this in the log: "Tower nginx: 2018/12/23 19:07:37 [error] 5467#5467: nchan: A message from the past has just been published. Unless the system time has been adjusted, this should never happen." I adjusted to use NTP server to no and restarted. So far all good. Just wondering what could have caused this crash. tower-diagnostics-20181224-0919.zip
  10. Updated this morning and all went well. Thank you for all work everyone puts into these releases.
  11. Thank you it looks like it will be handled next release . Might hold off adding new drives until then, just for the sake of not putting any more stress on server until necessary.
  12. Has anyone noticed that schedule for parity checks is being ignored and seems to run on the first of the month regardless of what scheduler is set at? I have had this since 6.6.2 and has happened again on 6.6.3. Not really a problem but with exchanging drives throughout the month and running drive rebuilding twice this month , I really didn't want a parity check until the 1st of the year, which is what the scheduler is set at.
  13. Thank you for the reply. What is your average temp running on the Ironwolf drives?
  14. I have been looking to replace my 8tb parity drives with 10 or 12 TB drives and wondering which drives would be a better option. Looking at the WD Purple. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?reviews=all&Item=9SIABT16656762 or the WD Red https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822231546 . Another question is whether the 5900rpm or the 7200 rpm drives make that big of a difference for parity drives. Trying to stay with a lower rpm to keep temps lower, but can go with a faster drive. If going the 7200rpm route that brings in the Seagate drives. All in all I don't know which would be the better or more reliable drives to get. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks Edit: also see some external 10 TB drives from both WD and Seagate for a lower price, if that could play into an option.
  15. I know that my WD drives run a little warmer maybe 1 or 2 degrees than my Seagates but looking at your picture, I think you need to invest in more fans . You need to keep the temps down to below 40 on the drives or else you are risking eary hard drive failures. Just my opinion but I think others will agree.
  16. Installed 6.6.1 no problems but I have my parity check set for once a year on the 1st. I set this because I had been adding larger drives the last few months and just rebuilding drives. My last drive rebuild was done on Sept. 29th and once Oct. 1st came I noticed I was doing a parity check and yet the schedule still has my check at Jan. 1st. No big deal but don't want to torture my drives any more than necessary. Just thought I would add this to the thread and see if any one else has had this happen.
  17. It's not really necessary but makes a nice polished look IMO. Thanks
  18. Is there a way to remove the overlay and choose a font color?
  19. I just did a 2 drive rebuild and all went good but was crossing my fingers all the way. I don't have a good back up to go to. So I prefer to only do 1 rebuild at a time from this point forward. And 5 -10 hour swap is not that long. My 2 rebuild came in at 18 hours which I am happy about at 118.3 MB/s. Point is swap/rebuild with how many you are comfortable with.
  20. After 18 hours, rebuild complete without errors. I had replaced the miniSAS cable with a new one and rebuilt the 2 disks at once. Thank you again Johnnie.
  21. Rebuilding now and will report back in 17 hours. Thanks johnnie
  22. I started an extended smart report on 13 and 14 a few minutes ago. And yes the rebuilt disk1 has 4000+ errors on it. Can I rebuild 2 disks at the same time, since I have dual parity?
  23. Yesterday I replaced a drive with new one and started with a data rebuild on it. Woke this morning to another drive with a red x and 2 other drives showing errors but not red balled. What would the steps be to fix this mess? Replace the red ball drive and rebuild that drive and leave the other drives alone until after that rebuild? Not sure what route I should go. Another question would be about parity checks. Which is the preferred method, with correction or not? tower-diagnostics-20180921-0856.zip
  24. When I had this happen to me with two red balled drives, I replaced all cables with locking ends and also replace my old power supply with a new one. Since these new parts I have been having no problems. These may or may not help but it did for me.
