Video guide *** How to connect virt-manager to unRAID to help manage your VMs **
Virt-manger should be installed and working with each version of Unraid. It is silly Unraid is touted as having virtualizing when it does not give the customer the proper tools to administer vms. Sorry LimeTech, but you failed on delivering the ability to properly administer vms. installing Fedora on a separate computer or as a vm is only a stopgap solution that LimeTech should be embarrassed to suggest. My confidence in LimTech and Unraid is starting to dwindle recently due to some of the issues I have recently encountered. At one time Packard built cars that rivaled Rolls Royce. During WWII Rolls Royce licensed production of their WWII airplane engines (Rolls Royce Merlin) to Packard. Packard not built the engines but improved upon their design. Sadly in the 1950s Packard's quality declined and so did Packard which was forced to merge with Studebaker. Studebaker went extinct in the mid 1960s. LimeTech should learn from Packard's success and failure.

How to re-install VirtManager
I followed SpaceInvader One's video on install virt-manager on a Fedora PC. He says nerdtools has to be installed and to enable nerdtool's nc-1.10x86. However with the version of nerdtools I installed on my Unraid 6.12.10 server there is no service or tool nc-1,10x86 listed.

How to re-install VirtManager
How do I re-install Virtmanager on my Unraid server? I know SpaceInvader One has a youtube video on installing virt-manager on a Fedora virtual machine. I want to re-install it on Unraid as a docker. It stopped working after I replaced my flash drive which was giving me issues. I did use a backup of the flash drive and the Unraid USB Creator progam. My Vms seem to work fine, but virt-manager would not run. So i thought, no problem, it is a Docker and I will install from the App store. But when I searched for virt-manager on the Apps store, there was NO Virt-Manager. Cheers & many thanks

USB Memory Sticks Are Getting WORSE
My primary Unraid server which is 3 years old is still using the original Scandisk USB2 thumb drive. It is plugged into an USB3 port. The issue seems to be with newer flash drives. Newer flash drives are the ones which have been failing on my secondary Unraid server plugged into a USB2 port and video recording device - USB3 port.

I find comfort in your report and I am being very truthful. Thanks very much for acknowledging and looking into this issue.

Thanks kindy Rysz for your reply. This helps explain the issue.

memtester: no process found
I was able to restore my thumb drive from backup. Not wanting to go through registering another replacement flash drive, I simply formated the failed drive (full format not a quick) on my Windows 11 computer. I thought it would be simpler to take another chance on the failed flash drive then go through Limetech's process of making me feel like I am committing a criminal offense. Unraid booted fine but immediately started a parity check despite being run a day or so ago and reported only ONE error. There was no message about memtester. Overnight the parity check completed and is reporting it took 17 hours, 49 minutes, 22 seconds. Average speed 124.7 MB/s and 710 errors, In the past I believe the most errors I've had on either one of my two Unraid boxes is 4. Is it possible I have data corruption? Also the BTRFS file system got trashed on one of my cache drives which had hardly any data on it. This is the second time I've had the BTRFS trashed on one of my cache drives. The other time it was on my other (primary) Unraid server. I've heard reports that BTRFS is now not recommended on cache drives. Many thanks for listening....

USB Memory Sticks Are Getting WORSE
I also use USB flash drives to record tv shows and movies on my tv. The recording device (about the size of two cigarette packs stacked one onto the other) also uses flash drives which I then place into the USB port on my WD TV Live to play back. In the last year I have had two video recording flash drives fail. In the last 10 months I've had 3 Unraid flash drives fail as recent as yesterday. SSDs and mechanical drives are getting more reliable, the same can not be said about these USB TRASH drives. I only use recognizable brand names like Sandisk, Kingston, Crucial, etc. The drives that failed on my video recorder and Unraid were ALL new drives which lost their virginity the first time they were placed into these devices. They were NOT older devices that were laying around and had prior usage. I've had SD, XD and Compact Flash cards fail in my Nikon and Olympus DSLR cameras. # of my 5 Nikons have double SD slots which does a sort of mirroring, saving the same photo to both SDs. My Olympus do the same having a Compact Flash slot and an XD slot. Perhaps it is possible Unraid could have TWO mountable USB Flash drives to circumvent the issue that arises when a flash drive punks out. With one of my Gigabyte motherboards to boot from a USB device it MUST be placed into the USB port on the back of the computer and the one nearest to the PS2 mouse/keyboard port, which is USB2. It will not boot from any other USB2 or USB3 port. I've tried for quite some time and according to the Gigabyte forum, the USB device must be in the port nearest the PS2 port. So when/if this port fails, I will have to purchase a motherboard. If a SATA port fails, I simply move the bootable drive to another SATA port and may have to change some bios boot settings. Many years ago Netware 3.x had to boot from DOS floppies to start the Netware boot process. But with future versions of Netware it allowed to boot from a small DOS hard drive partition. Does TrueNas only boot from a flash drive? I ask as I honestly do not know? Does a virtualized Unraid boot from a flash drive? Again I do not know. I think LimeTech must come of age and stop the silliness of Henry Fords mindset that all Model T cars have to be black. Thanks kindly... PS: I think Unraid is a marvelous piece of software. However I do have a couple of concerns about it. One being flash drives.

USB Memory Sticks Are Getting WORSE
I use registered versions of Windows 10 and 11. Use registered Adobe apps - Lightroom and Photoshop, Corel Painter, Rebelle 5 (painting app), ArtRage (painting app), 3D Coat 2024 (3D sculpting app), Blender (opensource), MOI3D (3D cad), Daz Studio (freeware) and a few other apps which escape this senior citizen's memory. All my apps are registered except for the opensource and freeware. Limetech (sorry for the slipup on Limewire) could they not use the same model as Microsoft or Adobe? I very much dislike flash drives. Had too many over the years just crap out, losing a photo, file, 3d model or document. Those who want to install to a hard drive should be able to and those who wish to go the USB route should also. Limetech needs to treat their loyal customers as valuable and not as potential pirates or criminals. If it works for Adobe, Corel or Microsoft, it should work for Limetech. Cheers

USB Memory Sticks Are Getting WORSE
According to a German report in 2024, USB Flash drives are getting worse and less reliable. So why is Limewire DEMANDING we install Unraid to flash drives and not allowing us to install to SSD, NVMe or mechanical hard drives. The customer should have the option and RIGHT to decide to which media they install their OS to. I have mentioned this a few times here, but I am an avid photographer who sells stock photos and prints on line. Any serious or pro photographer will not keep copies of their precious photos on a flash drives as they are known by photographers and digital artists to be very unreliable and prone to failure. So why is Limewire not putting the customer FIRST and giving us this option. The constant lame excuse because Unraid loads into memory and runs there is not a valid reason. The OS could still load into memory from a SSD or mechanical hard drive and thereby averting the flash drive unreliability. Giving up a SATA port? So what, most customers will realize this and may add additional SATA port cards or HBA or simply make due with what SATA prots are available. Again the decision should be the customers, not Limewires. Cheers

Install to SSD Hard drive
Flash drives are prone to failure. As an avid photographer most serious and pro photographers will mention it is not wise to store precious photos to flash drives, SDs, compact flash or other forms of flash media as they are not reliable. The constant reply that "it runs from RAM" is an insane response. Could not Unraid still run from ram if it was installed a SSD, NVMe or mechanical hard drive. Also the point that you are giving up a SATA port makes no sense, as most people have also installed additional SATA cards or HBAs. Limewire should give their customers the option to install to hard drive. Or are they really that mistrustful of their customers? Flash drives are a pain in the butt.

memtester: no process found
I rebooted my server out of safe mode, but now I am getting an error that my flash drive maybe corrupt. I believe the last time I had a corrupt flash drive was after rebooting out of safe mode. I powered the server down and placed the flash drive into my Windows 11 computer where I ran a scan disk which found errors and "fixed them". However the Unraid files and folders have been replaced with a single folder with an cryptic name of ascii characters. The last time I have this issue, running a san disk on my then Windows 10 computer resolved the issue. I truly wish Unraid would allow us to install Unraid to SSD or regular hard drive. As a very active photographer, even photographers know it is NOT WISE to save your precious photos to jump drives, compact flash, SDs or any other flash media as they are volitile.

Just booted into safe mode. The message "memtester : no process found" is NOT displaying.

memtester: no process found
Looks like I will not be booting into safe mode until my monthly parity check stops running.

I haven't booted into safe mode. Will do shortly. Thanks...

memtester: no process found
Today when I turned on my second UNRAID server, I notice this message memtester: no process found It was the final line just before Unraid displaying the OS version 6.12.9, ip v4 address of the server. Do I need to be concerned about this? Other than the message, everything else appears to be fine, shares are available, docker is up and plugins have loaded. Thanks kindly....

Energy Effecient Build? - Recommendations
Lenovo ThinkCentre m920q, m920x, m720q have a propietary pcie slot that can accomodate a pcie riser that converts to a standard pcie interface. See attached list from site serverthehome.com - There are most popular for pfsense / opnsense where a dual or quat port Intel nic is used along with the riser card. I seen a few writeups where they have been used for TrueNAS but not YET for Unraid.

Moving from R720 to Lenovo M720q plus NAS/DAS - setup questions
After posting the above and a quick after super nap, Google found this article of a person using a Lenovo m720q and a LSI-9200-8E with TrueNAS. Not sure what his external enclosure is but he mentions it is powered by a 250 watt power supply he had laying around in his garage. In my garage I do not have any computer parts laying about but I do have all kinds of old Chevy and Corvette stuff...LOL.. Maybe this link will inspire some of you. https://github.com/NKkrisz/HomeLab/blob/main/markdown%2FLenovo_M720Q_Setup.md Cheers from Nova Scotia....

Moving from R720 to Lenovo M720q plus NAS/DAS - setup questions
Doesn't the Lenovo M720q, m920q and m920x have a proprietary pciex8 slot to which you can attach a 90 degree riser that has a regular pciex8 slot at the end of the riser? This allows you to attach a second nic for pfsense/opnsense OR a hba adapter that would allow you to connect one or two sas drives or 4 or 8 sata drives. You would need an external hard drive case with a power supply to power the hard drives. I believe you can not have a SSD or the riser card installed at the same time due to the size limitations of the tiny case.

How to add line to docker-compose.yml file
I installed Remmina Remote Desktop Client on my Zorin linux computer and when I access my Win 11 VM I do not have the issues I do with VNC. I will not search further on how to get a USB drive working for WindowsinDocker as the support for this docker is non-existent for Unraid and on the Unraid website. Ken ala Vetteman

Unraid + pfSense + Vlans + manged switch = ignorance
I suspect there are a few users of Unraid who would like to add a firewall solution to their home networks. So very surprised that there has not been a reply.

How to add line to docker-compose.yml file
Never mind. I've given up on enabling my DVD Writer. I will use my Windows 11 vm instead where my DVD Writer works fine. And I will lIve with the issues my VM has and which do not exist in the Docker. Having my DVD Writer available is more important then the other vm issues. I would suggest to LimeTech please do not allow any apps or plugins which do not have a support forum on Unraid's website. The suggestions from the github support appear not to work in the Unraid environment. Cheers from Nova Scotia Ken aka Vetteman

Unraid + pfSense + Vlans + manged switch = ignorance
I often get quite annoyed why some questions are NEVER responded to. This is unlike the many forums I use for computer, photography, photoshop, 3D modeling and classic car support.

How to add line to docker-compose.yml file
I did that initially but that takes me to a support Github for WindowsinDocker where the solution is to edit the docker-compose.yml file with a text editor. Which appears not to be a solution in Unraid as they changed the location of the compose file and users must edit with the Unraid webgui. Again, I could not find any WindowsinDocker on Unraid which should be a prerequisite to any apps or plugins Unraid allows listed in their Webgui.
