  1. I can move the files just fine if i open the folders on another PC and drop and drag. But of course that is time consuming because the files are being moved from the server to the pc i'm using and back to the server. Tonight i will try moving a file using command line after i telnet into it and post my results.
  2. I'm getting this error no matter where i try to move a file. It happens if i try to move from disk1 to disk2, cache to disk1, cache to disk2, etc.
  3. I have recently built my 1st unraid server about 3 weeks ago and have been using MC to move files around. Well it has been totally fine until the past few days. When i try and move a file it gives me and error saying that the file i'm trying to move is the same file. It looks something like this, i'm at work so going off memory. smb/ip_address/mnt/downloads/videos/xyz.avi and smb/ip_address/mnt/disk1/videos/xyz.avi are the same file. it has an option to skip or abort. this doesnt make any sense to me and i'm pretty sure i'm following the same steps i was using in the past when it was working. This happens no matter what file i try to move and does it if i try to move folders as well. I have tried moving files from different folders as well and even tried moving to or from my cache drive and still get the same error. therefore i'm unable to move anything. I'm running the latest build of unraid plus. I should also note that i run MC from terminal using telnet and the pc i'm using is running peppermint os which is basically ubuntu. any ideas? Also is this the only option for a gui file manager?
  4. Not sure, I have an older version of transmission up and running on my production server and I can download and upload and play back content without issue. You might be saturating your network, depending on what settings you have specified. There is no longer a need to do that. The newest package should have that bug fixed. Go to said thread, then use the search box. The search box searches within whatever area you are. thanks pro, hopefully i get to reinstalling transmission before the week is over. If i continue to have the same issue should i run the script from your original post and post the results? also thanks for pointing out how to search w in a thread.
  5. So i finally looked through the entire thread since i was at work. Anyway i went ahead and installed the cache drive and transmission this weekend but missed the option for a cache install. So i'll need to reinstall it. But so far it worked out pretty good, but it totally slows down access to my array tremendously when transmission is running. I noticed this last night when trying to watch a video off it. It took forever to load and then kept buffering after about 2 seconds of play back. But when i stopped transmission it was totally fine, it even slowed it down if nothing was being downloaded or uploaded. What could be causing the slow down? I also noticed a major delay when i telnet into it to do a mc transfer. the slow down made me not even want to attempt the mc transfer until after my current torrents were done downloading. I wasnt trying to transfer active torrents either btw. So when i reinstall transmission on the cache drive, can i still use the steps andyjayh provided on page 21 for the cache drive setup? Thanks PS. does this forum really not have a search with in thread option or am i just dumb and cant find it?
  6. I have recently built me my 1st unraid server and i am wanting to add transmission to it. However i am adding a cache drive to my server tomorrrow because i remember reading or seeing a video where you can use the cache drive to download to and then schedule to copy the completed files off the cache drive to your array. So here are my questions: -Is it true i would be able to have transmission download and store completed files on the cache drive and then schedule to copy them over like once a week? -If so i assume i could manually tell where i want the torrent to store the completed file to certain folders on the cache drive such as "docs", "pics", "etc" and have a schedule to copy over for each. -would i be able to share those folders on my network as well off the cache drive so i can still access before scheduled copy to array? -If the prior questions are possible, what is the proper setup for this as far as file structure and user shares and anything else? I'm sure this has been answered in this thread already but i can not not find the search this thread option. Thanks, Removes
  7. Ok, I'm about to build my 1st media server and i am stuck as to build a UnRaid server or a MythTV backend server. I currently have 2 HTPC's and i want to be able to stream all my media from one location and i also want to be able to watch and record live tv from both HTPC's. i want UnRaid because of the stability. My 1st thought was to make both my HTPC's MythTV Backends and then record to the UnRaid server. However from my research MythTV and UnRaid dont play nicely together because of NFS. So now i don't know what too do. Cause i really want UnRaid and i really want a easy way to record live TV to it and only run Linux on my HTPC's. So is there any other options out there or can people tell me what they do to accomplish this? I think i'm going to end up making both HTPC's MythTV backends and just record to their internal hard drives, but i'll run outta space rather quickly. Also is UnRaid fast enough to stream HD video files to my HTPC over Ethernet and wifi? I assume it would be since my both my HTPC's dont have any problems streaming media to each other. Thanks
  8. Yeah this morning my trigger finger was very itchy, but after thinking it over. I'm going to try and see if i can find a friend or family member with an old Desktop that i can get my hands on cheap 1st. Then decide what to do next. Rajahal, thanks for the tip on the GB/$ ratio. That will help for sure. In the mean time i still decided to see what i could do on newegg if i was to order everything today. this is what i can up with. Western Digital Caviar Green WD15EADS 1.5TB SATA $104 GIGABYTE GA-MA74GM-S2 $50 Crucial Vostro 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 $42 AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz Socket AM3 45W Single-Core $36 LOGISYS Computer Area 51 CS51WBK Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 480W Power Supply $35 It comes out to 273.94 with shipping. I think thats pretty good for starting out. Except, will that processor be powerful enough since its single core and that should be everything i need right? I have some extra 80mm fans lying around that i can throw in there if needed. I'm saving this to my wish list and will give myself a couple of days to see what i can find out 1st before i order anything. Oh yeah, I have a bunch of Micro SDHC's lying around and figured i would just use one of those with a USB adapter to run the Unraid OS off of. That Should work right?
  9. Hey, Ok so i built a HTPC last fall. I have finally got it 98% complete. When your a real geek, you know nothings ever 100% complete. Anyway i was going to cancel my cable this week and start building a 2nd HTPC for my master bedroom. But then i started looking into the Boxee Box and thought "well this is stupid to build a 2nd htpc when i can just wait and get the boxee box for $199 and then stream content from my HTPC". then that got me thinking, i only have a 500gb Hdd in my HTPC and it only has 330gb left and i haven't even started to upload content from some external hdd's i have (have 1 20gb 2.5 ide drive and a 60gb and 2 40gb 2.5 sata drives) and i would love to backup my dvd collection. therefore i came to the conclusion that i need to build a media server. So i started searching around and found an old systm episode where they featured UnRaid and right off the bat i knew thats what i needed to build. This is where i would like some advice if you were me. Should i stop cold turkey with placing anymore content on my HTPC HDD and build a server asap. I was thinking of going as cheap as possible and just starting w 1 1tb and then adding 2 more later. But then i figured i might as well get a 2tb instead. But i'm so low on cash right now. Therefore can i start with a 1tb drive and then add a 2tb later, or will that be a big headache when i add the 2tb since it will need to be the new parity drive? Also since i'm going for a cheap as possible option where's the best place to find out which Mobo's currently being sold will work? I'll see what i can find using the search function of this forum in the mean time. However if i can order some stuff today, that would be cool. I would like to be able to order everything for a 1tb or 2tb server today and only spend around $300 and have the option to add more drives later. Its probably not possible, but i would love to be wrong.
