  1. Poor choice of words on my part; a USB controller was added to the vm and then the 2 USB flash drives were attached. have you tried to mount this stick with unassigned devices? when i tested this with USB UPS, UPS daemon was loaded first to stop error messages..
  2. dont know.. if you create with -z option from command-line, then you create physical RDM. if you are not sure, you can always recreate it. EDIT: found it - when you add it to VM, then you can see it Compatibility mode.
  3. google for it a quick find from me, for example here: http://serverfault.com/a/156050 i always use physical, so no experience with virtual ones..
  4. Yes, i have seen this guide before.. i just hope you created a physical RDM.. and if everything is working now, then please post your testing/usage results with unRAID
  5. Unassigned devices plugin? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=38635.0
  6. looks like you have a typo a space in between? vmkfstools -z /vmfs/devices/disks/t10.ATA_____H2FW_RAID1_______________________________C7Z2F7TI816OWYJW62CV /vmfs/volumes/VM_Datastore/RDMs/localrdm1.vmdk
  7. Got it! Thanks. look at specs for board you chose: http://www.supermicro.nl/products/motherboard/Xeon/C600/X10SRA-F.cfm 1x VGA (Aspeed AST 2400 BMC for IPMI)
  8. if your board have IPMI, there is no need for CPU with video..
  9. sorry, i have not used this plugin by myself(still no V6B15), but i'm using ipmi outside unRAID for Zabbix - i got all sensors from Ubuntu VM. So, i think unRAID works in similar manner. are there some configuration of this plugin? you should provide at least IPMI IP Address and user/pasw.
  10. can anyone with unRAID V5 post their nr_request values to compare them with V6?
  11. or use IPMI Plugin? IPMI plugin? see here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=39787.0
  12. see this sticky post: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=31321.0
  13. I have an opposite experience, not with this board but with my test X9SCM-iif - when i say shutdown, it reboots. but it's not happening always, so seems something weird..
  14. pure command-line see here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1017530 and remember to add custom option to VM advanced parameters as i wrote already..
  15. i think it depends on your board and sata port/controller count. if your board have only one sata controller, and you have esxi vmfs drives on it too.. i haven't tested that cos my board have only 6 sata ports on one controller.. if you have one controller, can you use some ports for raid, and some ports for ACHI? i think no, but may be i'm wrong?
  16. My Enermax 3203 have a small mode switch on the back side. you just switch it before power up, and then it will initialize when power up. and there is a Windows tool also for configuration.. i have not tried this utility cos i have no baremetal windows machine for testing.. when this raid drive shows up in esxi, then you make RDM, and add it to unRAID VM.
  17. Just looked at your case - very limited space inside, so there will be no space for such 3.5" combo..
  18. I will suggest another option for you - Steven had great success with dual SATA 2.5 to 3.5 RAID converter. i have another very similar device, tested with some success. see this thread and my comment for my device too: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=42740.msg413714#msg413714 if you wanna go RAID1 route, this will be very well option for you. i tried to setup this device in NOR(no RAID) mode, but then you see one disk only - tried both my Supermicro board, and M1015 too.
  19. Yes, i have two HDDs configured as RAID1 but with separate RAID controller that is NOT passed through to unRAID - but this does not change things at all. you can RDM drive attached to MB ports too - i have such configuration on my test server. on the minus side on RDM: spindown wont work, SMART probably wont work - depends on controller..
  20. i think RDM is your way to go. see here for additional modifications needed: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=26790.0 i use RDM for my RAID0 array for parity and for RAID1 array for cache.
  21. board temps for me are very similar at idle, but it depends strongly from room ambient temp. at summer it was about 50C at idle for me. but i have very poor ventilated small room, and hope to migrate server to new location later this year.
  22. according CPU, that's a Supermicro desired behavior. see here: http://www.supermicro.com/support/faqs/faq.cfm?faq=10319 according to collect monitored values, i have a great success with Zabbix. i'm using it with esxi, and it's working with esxi at API level so no need to install any agents on every VM.
