  1. Below works with 4.2.3: MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8NGM2-FID&class=mb) Intel EXPI9300PT PCI-Express Gigabit nic (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106005) SYBA SD-SA2PEX-2IR PCI-Express SATA II Controller Card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124027) Also, installed everything above in a new 12-bay case I bought a few days ago (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1561.0) using Kingwin KF-1000-BK 3.5" internal hot swap rack (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817990001). The motherboard above is a temporary spare until I can buy an 8-port SATA board with more PCI-E expansion slots. Everything went together and booted right up without any troubles. I especially liked the Kingwin racks as you can just slide a bare drive in and out without attaching any additional rails. Attached are some pics.
  2. Directron is local to me so I picked up this case on Monday. They've been around for many years. They have a huge warehouse attached to their store front with like 90+ employees. I don't think they're going anywhere. I've never checked their shipping charges but I remember it being very reasonable for this heavy case. Something like $20.
  3. I have the P4C800E. Like you said, it's a bit different from your board. But probably just the onborad nic. Everything else seems identical. Mine works fine with no issues for over a year. Never had a failure.
  4. Great news! Can't wait.
  5. My friend also has an Intel 965 board with ICH8. He could not get unRAID to recognize the onboard SATA either unless he changed them to compatibility mode in the bios. But then it becomes dog slow. He also emailed Tom and got a reply saying ICH8 is not currently supported. Otherwise, everything else works great for him via the Promise card. I also hope this will be supported soon as ICH8 supports up to 6 onboard SATA ports.
  6. Thanks for the info! I have a similar system in my Media PC. It is an MSI K8NGM2-FID which uses socket 939 and DDR but otherwise very similar to your board. I'm looking to upgrade it to a more powerful C2D system later and was planning on using the MSI board to upgrade my unRAID server. Please do post more updates and if possible, run some performance benchmarks. Thanks.
  7. Just wanted to report that this board works without any issues. Intel 875P northbridge Intel ICH5R southbridge Intel Gigabit LAN 4 x SATA 1.5 (2 by Intel and 2 by onboard Promise) P4 2.4 Ghz 1GB DDR (single channel... I know, I don't have another stick) All 4 SATA ports populated and no IDE drives (yet). Not a single hiccup for a few days now.
