  1. Thanks dgaschk for helping out... I replaced all of the oldest cables and the rebuild is good now with zero errors. Just doing a parity check and then will update to 5.0 stable.. what would be the best way to set up my usb stick to a vanilla unraid of version 5.0 stable? would I copy everything in the config file except the plugin folder?
  2. Here is the smart report. Should I Change out my sata cables? Notice different amount of errors depending on the connections with cables or sata ports. Had the PCIe card disconnected and still got errors. smart.txt
  3. If I understand correct. You should go to your Disk setting on the main page for disk 4. Look For SMB security settings. Make sure under Export is :Yes( Hidden)

All are 26AWG. Everytime I try to rebuild my hard drive depending on how I have my cables connected I am seeing 20 50 or 200 errors in the rebuild. My parity drive is 4Tb and Disk4 is 3TB. syslog.zip
  5. Nice Writeup.. I was looking at ESXi But now you got me looking into Xen. So would Xen be a better solution for my AMD system? I'm Looking to get into virtualization but have a old system and wana take it to its grave. what would be the lowest resource hog for my system (Asus A8N-E Deluxe W/Athalon X2 3800+) ESXi or Xen? All I want is VM for Unraid and a VM for OS W/Plex,subsonic,etc.
  6. Total size: 3 TB Current position: 1.09 TB (36.3 %) Estimated speed: 27.6 MB/sec Estimated finish: 19 hours, 15 minutes My Old Hard drive was a 1TB drive and I am rebuilding on a 3TB. Is the rebuild just adding zeros after the 1 TB of information? Is that why I see some HD's going to sleep later in the Rebuild? Anyone wan't to answer my last 3 posts? Should I create another thread since this has nothing to do with my USB anymore?
  7. Which linux distro? I guess you are installing each apps manually. Is the Media Beast VM Windows or a Linux Distro? Can I get away with having 4 GB of ram for unraid VM and Media VM with plex XBMC and Subsonic ?
  8. I think so, too... now. I've bought the Linksys WRT120N in a hurry, my previous router died, I did not have time to research, so I relied on recommendation of a selling guy at Fry's. AFAIK, his main point was "It's a Cisco, man"! "Cisco cant' be bad", I thought, plus, at that time the WRT120N was nowhere damn near to "cheap". Too soon I had started experiencing dropped connection, checked the reviews at Newegg and Amazon... just to find out that I'm not the only one to suffer. Yes Linksys has gone bad but I blame the firmware. Like many routers these days a simple flash of DDWRT or Tomato will get it working better and have more features then most SOHO routers. I would recommend before purchasing a SOHO router check and see if it supports one of these firmwares. Any router from ASUS right now has really good Hardware and most support Custom Firmware. Budget RT-N16 (300N) Medium RT-N66U (900N) Beast RT-AC66U (1750ac) Altered Beast RT-AC68U (1900ac) Or if you have a old PC build a router with PFSense/Monowall etc.. I was going to buy a new router but decided on PFSense. Couldn't justify the high price tags that all the new routers have. $150.00-$200 for SOHO Routers Now Ill just buy a router for an AP.
  9. The link is VERY wrong => an SFX unit fits FAR better than an ATX PSU in the PC-Q25B Thanks Gary .. Would you say a 80+ gold power supply would be better if this system is on 24/7 or is lower then 20% power consumption on idle?
  10. BobPhoenix is correct, but only if there is nothing in front of the regular PCI slot that would prevent the rest of the PCI-X card from seating properly since it is longer and the rest of the golden fingers will be exposed, such as capacitors or heatsinks for chipsets, etc. I've used a PCI-X card in a regular PCI slot lots of times and it works fine. Yes thanks guys I thought it was PCI not PCI-X. So it will work on regular PCI? Yes I want to save my PCIe lanes for my Hard drives and have this card on my PCI slot. PCI should be fast enough for 2 gigabit ethernet ports right? So is $30.00 a good deal or wait for another deal to come up. He has 2 cards for $30 each.
  11. Found someone selling a dual intel nic for $30.00 CAD. Should I grab it for Unraid/ESXi? Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Port Server Adapter RJ45 PCI-X PWLA8492MT They have 2 available. Wanted to Set up ESXi for Unraid/PFSense/Win7 for plugins/etc..
  12. So After Replacing my power supply to a Corsair HX650 I still have errors on the hard drive during the rebuild . When I added the New Sata card it was connected to the parity drive and rebuilt the parity with no errors. I also verified the parity and found no errors. now when I am rebuilding my disk 4 it keeps giving me errors. Disk 4 is showing and playing the information so I think the hard drive and Pcie to Sata is ok but I could be wrong. I have also tried disconnecting the pcie to sata card and only use the sata ports on the motherboard but that still gave me errors on disk 4. Disk 4 was a 1TB drive being replaced with a 3TB drive. What can you guys recommend next considering that I have had the Pcie to sata card build the parity drive with no problems? Replace sata cables.?Since changing the power supply and switching around the cables, I got the errors down from 300 to 26. If you guys need a smart report on disk 4 let me know but I did a Quick smart report and found no errors. Also why would some rebuilds red ball and some rebuilds orange ball? Thanks I also Noticed during the rebuild of disk 4, 2-3 disks show they are sleeping in the last 5-10 hours. Is that normal or are all disk active during the whole rebuild of a drive? syslog.zip
  13. That link showed that the power supply is not compatible with the case. try adding this PS and see what happens. CORSAIR CX500M 500W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139050. Could be the dimensions of the power supply or needs the ATX bracket that comes with it. Also the corsair power supply is modular which will help with the clutter in such a small case. Lian-Li PC-Q25B Mini ITX Tower Case and Silverstone 450W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified SFX12V Power Supply are not compatible. Lian-Li PC-Q25B Mini ITX Tower Case does not have front panel USB 3.0 ports.(not a big deal..)
  14. I was Looking into setting up ESXI for the same reasons but was wondering if its hard to setup ounce you have your Unraid server Going? what would be the min requirements for ram and cpu to get a ESXI build going on my already setup unraid server? I was going to wait till I upgrade my MB and CPU but this thread sold me on ESXI. Whats the steps to get ESXI on a System that already has Unraid?
  15. The ISP I'm considering to use is offering me a re-branded FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7330SL/7360 (WLAN router with 2x LAN, DECT base station for 6 DECT + 1 fixed line phone, 2x USB) for 49€. Would that be enough? Or do I need the 7390? 7360: http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/FRITZ_Box_7360/index.php 7390: http://www.avm.de/en/Produkte/FRITZBox/FRITZ_Box_Fon_WLAN_7390/index.php what ever ISP you decide to go with just ask them for the modem only and buy the router yourself. 1. The Router is yours to keep and can be used with any ISP DSL/Cable etc.. 2. Gigibit ports. Most ISP give old modem/routers so might not get GB ports or not enough. 3. Future Proofing. Buying a New Router will get you all the new technology wifi N900/ Ac. VPN 4. Real Specs.. Know the CPU of the Router.. http://www.wehavemorefun.de/fritzbox/IKF6850 while both units have good hardware. The CPU will share the work load of the modem and Router because its one unit. 5. Firmware Hacks.. DDWRT or Tomato or OpenWRT.. Lets you make your Purchased Router even better.. So My Recommendation would be Asus RT-AC66U Asus RT-N66U (Best bang for $Buck) http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/wireless-routers/1295800/asus-rt-n66u-dual-band-wireless-n900-gigabit-router Asus RT-N16 All home Routers are good for the average user. 1-5 connections.. No Torrents.. and gaming at the same time.. .. etc etc.. Is there a reason that you have to get a unit that has the router built in?
