  1. I'd run memtest to be sure your RAM is not faulty. Random freezing is usually RAM or PSU issue.
  2. Thanks Spinbot. My main concern was there might be something still going on with the server since it didn't exit properly. I'm trying your Screen suggestion and just started preclearing again. It looks to be working fine.
  3. I Telneted in and started to preclear a new drive. After two hours the system that had the console session open locked up and had to be rebooted. It looks like the preclear on the unraid drive also stopped at that time. I expected it to take over 2 more hours. Did the preclear script exit gracefully when it lost the session connection to the machine that locked up? Can I just start the process over again or will there be "ghosts" from the previous attempt that need to be addressed? Thanks.
  4. Right, it's part of unMenu. Once you install unMenu on your unRaid server you will find the option called ShareISO available in the top menu. Just click the link and navigate your unRaid folders to find the ISO you want to have appear as a share. After the ISO is mounted, open your network shares and it will show the entire contents of the ISO instead of just a single ISO file.
  5. I just did some testing and it appears to work as I described above. After using ShareISO to mount a DVD game ISO that is stored on my unRaid it appeared as a network share. I was able to install the game on a laptop that doesn't have a DVD drive. The downside is the copy protection needs the disk in the drive to play. That's not a big deal for me. This was just to test and I have no intention of playing on my laptop anyway. At any rate this is really useful and I'll be switching over from my Virtual CloneDrive software to ShareISO. There were a couple of issues: Filenames that include ()'s can't be mounted using ShareISO. This is a problem for me as all my movies have the year tacked on to the movie name. i.e. Avatar (2009).iso Without the () it mounts just fine. It only affects the actual filename, the pathname can include ()'s. While regular DVD ISO's could be mounted, Blu-Ray ISO's could not be mounted. The only way I can play my BR's is to mount them in Virtual CloneDrive and play them with PowerDVD. I don't have that many BR's and mounting them all via ShareISO would have been a nice way to avoid a step.
  6. Yep, unRaid will pick the best Movie share on any drive, per your configuration, to place your movie. All associated files in the "Movie Title" folder will stick with it on the chosen drive.
  7. I rip my movies to ISO and store them in a folder on my unRaid server. I then use my media player to play the ISO directly from the Movies share on the server, no need to mount it. So what you are saying is you have a movie ISO already on your server. You then mount it using Share ISO and it appears on the network as the files contained within the ISO so you can rip parts out using Handbrake? Would this act as a replacement for a virtual DVD drive? For instance, I just bought a game DVD and backed it up to an ISO on the server. Is it possible to ShareISO the game and install it on a Windows laptop that doesn't have a DVD drive? I use Virtual CloneDrive to provide that function now. If ShareISO does the same thing from a network share instead of using a virtual drive I'll definitely use it instead.
  8. Can someone explain what the ShareISO option is for? It seems to have a prominent spot in unMenu and I'm wondering if I'm missing out on something useful.
  9. Do you have or can possibly acquire (ebay?) another drive that EXACTLY matches the one you are trying to repair? If so you can try booting the working drive then place the it in standby mode so it spins down. Remove the drive from the attached circuit board, put the non-working drive in it's place. Spin the drive up and see if you can copy the data off. Like any other option it's not 100%, you may be wasting your time. If the drive wasn't dropped, burned, shot, flooded or otherwise abused this method can be successful.

    SSD Question

After installing an SSD there are a few items you should turn off to prevent unnecessary access of the drive by Windows. Read this for a detailed explanation of how to configure a Win7 machine after installing an SSD. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/70822-ssd-tweaks-optimizations-windows-7-a.html
  11. From the Newegg comments: Cons: -could not get to boot from USB flash drive. No option to set it as a bootable device or use it as a one-time boot device. However, it does work with a USB optical drive. -no gigabit ethernet. The on-board video output is not sharp and crisp (kind of blurry)
  12. While AnyDVD isn't free it is worth the price. I use it along with an add-in for Windows Media Center called "AutoRip and Compress". It only works with WMC on Windows 7 though, not Vista. Throw a DVD in the drive and it automatically retrieves the info/art from online. If you're happy with the name it found just press 'Start Rip' and it will do it's thing. You can set profiles for other "helper" software, not just AnyDVD, if you choose to use something else like DVDfab. The output can be ISO, VOB's, or sent automatically to external programs for further processing, such as Handbrake.
  13. Joe, I read that link you posted regarding split level 0 and now I'm a bit more confused. Here's my situation: Disk 1 Movies A Aliens Aliens.iso B Back to the Future VOB files C Cars VOB files . . Z Movies is a user share (disk shares are hidden) and the split level is set at 2. My understanding with that split level is that the Aliens folder will be placed on any available disk (according to allocation) and all it's files/sub-folders will be tied to that disk. When setting up the Movies share unRaid created it on Disk 1 only. When the Disk 1 fills will unRaid automatically create the folder structure on another disk? If not do I need to manually create just the root Movies folder or do I need to manually create the folder structure up to the split level I have set (ie. Movies/A....Z) on each disk I want unRaid to utilize? If I do have to manually create the folder structure on each drive why wouldn't I just use a split level of 0? -Thanks
  14. Yes Brit, I helped Tom with troubleshooting the issue by sending feedback and logs he requested. His main focus seemed to center around udev. It took 4 tries with new versions before the problem was nailed down. He did mention "The code to get the Flash GUID is significantly different now".
  15. Thanks for the replies. I've got some good news that might calm the raw nerves about this issue. I've been consulting with Tom the whole day and I'm happy to report he has fixed this issue. He really put in the extra effort to get this licked in a timely manner, my hat's off to him. Expect an updated version with the fix to be released any time now.
  16. I wanted to order a pro license today but ran up against this issue since unRAID will not report the real ID which is required for purchase. If I ordered the license using the real number (obtained using a different machine) will the license key still work in the new unRAID machine?
  17. FibreChannel, I just put together a new machine today and have exactly the same problem. I've tried two different flash drives with various configurations of BIOS/USB port settings. Both drives do show a GUID on my old machine. My unRAID box just shows the string you mentioned. My MB is the ASUS P7H55-M Pro, which sounds very similar to what you have. Did you ever find a solution to the problem? Thanks, -PCRx
