Unraid is a great product which I've used for around 2 years now, and as I know it's full capabilties, I'd be happy to pay the new pricing, so this is not a complaint by any means, however, I think that I would have just gone with FreeNas or something similar if this was the pricing when I was looking years back.
Potential users are being put of at the new pricing (myself included as I was planning on buying another basic license for a backup unraid with just 4 disks, now my only real option is to pay for the lifetime unraid license as I plan to have it for many years, so the yearly sub is not cost efficient, and can't justify the cost for the lifetime license for the usage, so I will go with a raid5 on another free OS as the cost of the extra disks for the raid5 will cost less over the lifespan).
I also showed a few guys where I work my unraid setup last year who were intreigued and were looking at buying licenes, until they've seen the new pricing and it's now a flat out "not paying that!".
I appreciate the costs involved in this crazy era we're in, but I personally think there should be some more license options, e.g. a 4/6 disk lifetime license for the people who don't need the lifetime, 20 disks etc so the "entry" users aren't priced out and do not want to pay a subscription for an OS.
Again, great product, not a complaint, but before the price change, I was able to recomend Unraid to friends and colleagues who then went and purchased licenses, now I don't bother mentioning it as it's a painful conversation every time with the new pricing.
