  1. Well Joe, reiserfsck just said nothing. Only the blinking cursor came back and this the reason why I attached the new syslog hoping that this might give you an insight of what happened during the reiserfsck run After a reboot the lost+found folder is full of files and one of the movie is back (only the mkv file not the fan art and not the cover). (Before I started the undelete process 2 movies along with their fan art and covers were deleted, only the nfo files were left in the movies folder) So maybe XBMC or TwonkyMedia Server is the delinquent but I don´t feel comfortable if files just disappear. Cheers Btw. the shares are read only; so none of the family was able to delete anything...
  2. Joe, it was going well - however I still don´t know where the files are. Nothing in the lost+found folder.
  3. Thanks Joe, I ran reiserfsck --check /dev/md2 and here is the reply: root@Tower:/# reiserfsck --check /dev/md2 reiserfsck 3.6.19 (2003 www.namesys.com) ************************************************************* ** If you are using the latest reiserfsprogs and it fails ** ** please email bug reports to [email protected], ** ** providing as much information as possible -- your ** ** hardware, kernel, patches, settings, all reiserfsck ** ** messages (including version), the reiserfsck logfile, ** ** check the syslog file for any related information. ** ** If you would like advice on using this program, support ** ** is available for $25 at www.namesys.com/support.html. ** ************************************************************* Will read-only check consistency of the filesystem on /dev/md2 Will put log info to 'stdout' Do you want to run this program?[N/Yes] (note need to type Yes if you do):Yes ########### reiserfsck --check started at Wed Jun 16 18:39:39 2010 ########### Replaying journal.. 4. Sorry Joe, should have known that a syslog is required. Here it is:
  5. I lost some files recently and don´t know why. Perhaps XBMC was cleaning some data I turned off the respective switch in XBMC which enabled the application the erase files and was trying the description above to undelete the lost data. /mnt/disk1 went well, produced a list+found directory. After that I tried disk2 and went to bed. Today I couldn´t mount /mnt/disk2. I don´t know what happened but the disk2 is shown as unformatted. Should I run reiserfsck --rebuild-tree -S /dev/md2 again? Pls. advise. Thank you.
  6. Hi Weebotech, I copied the package into /boot/packages, using installpkg in my go script. Is there anything else needed? I guess that's the case as I'm not seeing the server in my Mac OSX iTunes application.
  7. Hmm, I´m having a good discussion with myself here Alright I had a strange feeling with the Twonkymedia Server and disabled it´s start within the go script. Guess what I have all my shares back in again. Again, I changed some of the entries in the twonkymedia-server.ini file e.g. the default path from: /var/twonkymedia/twonkymedia-server-uploaded-music to /mnt/user/twonkymedia/twonkymedia-server-uploaded-music in order to avoid that the settings are being lost at reboot. I have defined a share /mnt/user/twonkymedia via the web admin tool but not the whole path /mnt/user/twonkymedia/twonkymedia-server-uploaded-music. Do I really need to enter all required directories into the shares section of the web admin? Can someone who is not a Linux noob like I am looking into the log´s and guide me what I did wrong? Thank you very much.
  8. The situation is getting worse. Today I lost all entries under /mnt/user; /mnt/user0 entirely disappeared after I upgraded to unRAID V4.5.4 and added a twonkymedia shares. The files on disk1-3 are still available. I tried all tips here in the forum, deleted all MacOSx hidden files, rebooted unRaid twice and stop/start the array now. However the stopping takes forever and I would appreciate if someone can have a look at the syslog....thank you all help is highly appreciated. Some more information what I did: upgrade from 4.5.3 to 4.5.4 changed Mover Schedule (Share tab) to */30 * * * * changed (Remove DS_Store and ._ file and Remove ._"file" cleanup script from unMenu): */30 * * * * added twonkymedia share manually added some more directories into that new share changed some twonkymedia-server.ini entries so that the files are being wiritten into that share rather than to var/twonkymedia changed the cache entry in twonkymedia-server.ini so that the file are being written into /mnt/cache That´s all changes I can remember. All shares files (..the *.cfg) are still on boot/config/shares How can I get them back.
  9. Joe, thank you very much. I am using the /mnt/user/Music etc. now according to your explanation. Do you have a good idea how to get back the disappeared users to the admin interface ? Maybe only a beauty thing? Thanks a lot. Cheers Oliver
  10. Has no one any idea? Where can I read more regards user vs. user0? In TwonkyMedia server I have to decide which share I enter into the respective field: /mnt/user/Music or /mnt/user0/Music ? Thank you.
  11. aht961, I solved the issue with a slight change of my go script. Here we go: /boot/twonkymedia/twonkymedia -inifile /boot/twonkymedia/twonkymedia-server.ini The beauty of invoking Twonkymedia server with the above parameter is that all future updates of your settings are being directly reflected in the twonkymedia-server.ini file on the USB device, hence not being lost after reboot. Cheers Oliver P.S. I would be interested in having some more information about all available start parameters of TwonkyMedia Server. Any idea where I can find this?
  12. aht961, the same here; I´m using TwonkyMedia Server 5.1.3-dev Nothing is being saved after reboot (however I like Twonky Server much more than Mediatomb - easier to install and all media information is shown on each client which wasn´t the case with Mediatomb). Two files are important for the setup: twonkymedia-server-default.ini --> this is the default for the first start of the server twonkymedia- server.ini --> this is the file which is being created after the first start of the server If you change the setup according to your requirements the second file is being adjusted - but in the directory /var/twonkymedia (..and this file is of course lost after a reboot...) This is not a surprise at all. So I copied twonkymedia- server.ini back into the /boot/twonkymedia/ directory and was hoping that the server picks up the correct settings from here. This assumption was wrong and I would like to understand what the issue is. I guess that this has more to do with my lack of Linux skills than with TwonkyMedia Server.
  13. I used the ReadPixel Freeware under this link: http://www.readpixel.com/wakeonlan/index.html - which is the same app as the version you linked to.
  14. Spot on Joe! Yes that is what I found in parallel but you were faster than me :-) Thank you very much. It´s working well, the array is starting except AFP. I need to check if this was a one time error. Thanks again. Cheers Oliver [EDIT: It´s working well. Re-checked and AFP is starting too]
  15. Thanks Joe, that did the trick. What it doesn´t is to send the WOL signal. If the array was sent to sleep you can´t reach it via unMENU - correct? So it must something sent from any of the Mac's within the network I guess? I found some Windows programs but not a single one for Mac OS X. Thank you very much.
  16. Hi, that is what I was looking for but I don´t understand the usage of the files. If I´m sending the array to S3 sleep via the unMENU button I can´t access the it through my SSH console. I also can´t access it via the web admin interface. I thought to include something into my user scripts of unMENU to ease the usage: #define USER_SCRIPT_LABEL WOL #define USER_SCRIPT_DESCR Wake up Array after S3 Sleep #define USER_SCRIPT_TEST [ -x /boot/custom/ether-wake e0:cb:4e:42:22:13 ] && echo "WOL" echo "<pre>" /boot/custom/ether-wake e0:cb:4e:42:22:13 But this is bringing an error message - directly on the button of unMENU: sh: line 0: [: /boot/custom/ether-wake: binary operator expected What do I understand wrong? Thank you
  17. Honestly Justin - I don´t know. I still have so many questions regarding the unRAID concept. With SMB I do see e.g. my share MUSIC. According to the manual this share can be widespread across different discs. Until now it´s only on disc2 but as the music collection is growing it will start to be saved on other discs too - and I still see one share which is great because I can ignore the hardware boundaries. That´s how I understand the concept. In AFP I don´t see the share. I see it as folder under disk2 but I can´t include it into the finder bar as I can with SMB.... So for us Mac users it would be great to have AFP as seamlessly integrated as SMB - but maybe I´m just not smart enough to understand how to use. Cheers Oliver
  18. Soul, yes it´s working. I share all the movie, music and photo files via AFP plus Timemachine is working for all the users at home - also via AFP. My remaining issue are the permissions I guess. But this might have to do with something else. I opened a new thread for this: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6326.msg61410#msg61410 Don´t forget to start with defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1 on your Mac console if you want to use Timemachine with unRAID.
  19. After the initial installation of unRAID I had some issues with open files whenever I wanted to shutdown the server and unRAID was always stuck with "UNMOUNT". After a while I switched off the server and this was not a great idea. The unmount issue is fixed but all the users except root have disappeared from the web admin interface. Is there a way to have them back in the web admin? I even can't put them back with the web admin interface - perhaps because they are still existing in the system? At least I'm able to connect under exactly those users names. I don´t know if this information helps - strange enough that there are two directories user and user0 with the same content: root@Tower:~# ps -ef | grep shfs root 2279 1 0 18:48 ? 00:00:04 /usr/local/sbin/shfs /mnt/user -cache 1 -floor 0 -o noatime,big_writes,allow_other,default_permissions root 2291 1 0 18:48 ? 00:00:00 /usr/local/sbin/shfs /mnt/user0 -cache 0 -o noatime,big_writes,allow_other,default_permissions root 3523 3206 0 23:14 pts/3 00:00:00 grep shfs Maybe someone has a good idea? Thank you.
  20. Timemachine backup for 3 Mac`s was one of the objectives of my unRaid server installation. This is why I highly appreciate dlmh`s description. However some questions remain. After the installation I had some issues with open files and unRaid was stuck with "UNMOUNT". I switched off the server and experienced always a Parity Check each time on reboot. This is fixed now but all the users except root have disappeared from web admin. Is there a way to have them back in the web admin? I even can't put them back - perhaps because they are still existing in the system? At least I'm able to connect under exactly those users names. My second question is the following. I edited the following files according to dlmh`s guide. 1: /etc/passwd 2: /etc/shadow 3: /etc/netatalk/afpd.conf 4: /etc/netatalk/netatalk.conf 5: /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default 6: /etc/avahi/services/samba.service 7: /etc/avahi/services/afpd.service Everything's on the flash drive and it's correctly copied to the config files on boot. passwd file: user1:x:1007:100::/bin/bash user2:x:1007:100::/bin/bash user3:x:1007:100::/bin/bash shadow file: user1:{some.random.string}:14542:0:99999:::: user2:{some.random.string}:14542:0:99999:::: user3:{some.random.string}:14542:0:99999:::: Lastly I changed permissions: chown -R user1:users /mnt/disk1 chmod -R 2775 /mnt/disk1 chmod -R 2770 /mnt/disk1 It seems that I always have to enter these permissions to get access via AFP. I just tried with disk1 and now I only have access to disk1 (..I can't even see disk2) Is there any option available? Executing these commands at every reboot isn't feasible - takes forever... Or maybe I'm wrong using the following entries in AppleVolumes.default? /mnt/disk1 "disk1" allow:user1,user2,user3 cnidscheme:cdb options:upriv, usedots perm:2770 /mnt/disk2 "disk2" allow:user1,user2,user3 cnidscheme:cdb options:upriv, usedots perm:2770 /mnt/disk1/_TimeMachine "TimeMachine" allow:user1 cnidscheme:cdb options:upriv, usedots,tm perm:2770 /mnt/disk1/_TimeMachine "TimeMachine" allow:user2 cnidscheme:cdb options:upriv, usedots,tm perm:2770 /mnt/disk1/_TimeMachine "TimeMachine" allow:user3 cnidscheme:cdb options:upriv, usedots,tm perm:2770 And honestly I don't know what the best entries are in the web admin under Shares respectively User Shares. Sorry for having so many questions.....
  21. Joe, thank you very much. Actually I used WeeboTech's "powerdown" add-on in my go script and everything went fine. But it switched off my server 11pm and that wasn´t always a good choice. So I removed it from the go script and since that time I had the issues.... Btw. some music files were opened and here is the log: root@Tower:~# /sbin/powerdown Capturing information to syslog. 22. Hi, the same here - it's always the same drive that is stuck with "UNMOUNT". I'm running 4.5.3 and what what do I need to do if I discover (using lsof) that there is a file open? It's always the same story (most probably since I have activated the Cache drive), I'm trying to stop & shutdown via web interface and have to hard reset the server after the above message is showing up. If I switch off the server it will drive a Parity Check each time on reboot. Last time my users were not existing any more so that I wasn't able to get into the system via AFP....with that my Timemachine isn't working.... Where should I start first it's kind of frustrating.
  23. Alright - got it - nearly - still waiting for the hardware - so wasn´t able to setup users, set permissions of shares to the right owner and group. I see tower.afp and tower.smb in my Finder - great. I was setting up the folders: /boot/config/afp/avahi /boot/config/afp/etc /boot/config/afp/netatalk /boot/configfiles (here is the samba.service....from the samba over avahi guide) I do understand that these files need to be copied (via GO file) after each start: 1: /etc/passwd (copied from /boot/config/afp/etc) 2: /etc/shadow (copied from /boot/config/afp/etc) 3: /etc/netatalk/afpd.conf (copied from /boot/config/afp/netatalk) 4: /etc/netatalk/netatalk.conf (copied from /boot/config/afp/netatalk) 5: /etc/netatalk/AppleVolumes.default (copied from /boot/config/afp/netatalk) 6: /etc/avahi/services/samba.service (copied from /boot/configfiles) 7: /etc/avahi/services/afpd.service (copied from /boot/config/afp/avahi) ...and here is the GO file: Is that all correct - so far? Best regards Oliver
  24. dlmh, your How-To´s are simply stunning! I´m a unRAID newbie. So in the meantime while I´m waiting for the delivery of my hardware components I alienate my netbook to prepare some addons like Mediatomb, unMenu and Avahi. However for the Time Machine backup I also need AFP. So I looked into you AFP How-To and tried to implement as much as I can. So allow me a couple of questions: 1.) Am I right, that we don´t need xz-4.999.8beta-i486-1.tgz & pkgtools-13.0-noarch-2.tgz anymore because we have a Netatalk 2.05 package for slackware? 2.) I don´t have the /boot/config/afp/ directory. That´s why I´m getting error messages. Any ideas? 3.) Can you confirm that these are the only only changes regards your description if my intention is to use Netatalk 2.05: Thank you very much.
  25. @starcat: is that the way you would restore a Time Machine backup: http://www.dbattery.com/2008/07/18/timemachine-restore-from-nas/ @unbeatable: isn´t your description for Leopard? I recently installed a NAS in a Snow Leopard environment following this way (the main difference is that Leopard needs the EthernetID and Snow Leopard deal with the hardware UUID:
