  1. My pleasure. Let us know how it works. Plex with database to 100gb data.img is running great and works amazing! Was there a guide posted on how to expand ironics arch.img or has there been another arch.img posted somewhere? Trying to follow all the threads but there are quite a few at the moment Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. That was my first thought but the share doesn't show up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Ironic, how can you permanently mount the share? This gets lost on reboot Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I think running 1 VM with lots of apps would be as bad as the current plugin state. And without the drain on resources that the desktop GUI would use, it would be easier to have several VMs running for different applications. As a non Linux user I struggled with Ubuntu / Ubuntu server, whereas arch I found reasonably easy ( with a lot of googling) Plus these VMs should be setup and left with only updates required from using CLI, and the apps accessed from http Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Fully support what you are doing ironic, and really wish for it to become a reality but i see a conflict of interest from Tom and the beta release of unRAID 6.0 x64 will be deemed the LimeTech solution for all. All I ever needed to know about Flexraid I got from their forum pages. There's no inducement under the sun that would make me go that way. From what I read, his stuff ain't working that great, but it could be that most of his pain is suffered via Windows and the current Vista/7/8/WHS 2011/WHS 2012 fiasco - looks like his moderators do lots of damage control and they purge and archive the forums often - it makes me think that there's more trouble in paradise there that is let on. He does fix issues but seems more interested in forking his own project (now "TRaid" or something like that) and splintering his base from what I've read and while there are a handful of community supporters assisting the newcomers to Flex, it doesn't seem to be as close-knit a community. I get the appeal of running under Windows, but other than that, I get the distinct feeling that unRaid doesn't suffer as much as Flex. Yes, there are defectors, but if they want to run a more "raid-like" system - more power to them - they wouldn't care for unRaid anyway - too tame for them. As for me - I LIKE STABLE. From browsing their forum pages for the last few days i also got that impression. However my post was not a recommendation to use FlexRaid, while i like the ability of FlexRaid i would be apprehensive of moving to it, just a note that other products are progressing and people are attracted to whats being offered. I really doubt you'll ever see a package to install on a distribution. The company is just too small to support a distribution. You'll need to run VM's on unRAID 6. Some days you just don't get what you want. i think is where this road will end.
  6. Unfortunately all of this will remain talk and ideas, as good as it is and as much as I wish it would happen, until tom eventually says yay or nay it is going nowhere Even over at the flex raid forums (ok it's running on windows primarily as well as Linux), there are unRAID users jumping ship and paying $100 because it offers what is being discussed here And the business owner is extremely active on a lot of threads unlike here This thread and unRAID is becoming frustrating as it's a product people want., after you have used unRAID for a while and with the plugin and webgui fiasco, it is required sooner rather than later (granted, for some not all)
  7. SnapRAID is precisely what I have been looking at recently.....but I still have preference for unRAID, and would prefer to stick with it but only if it moves forward at some point. Either way I am glad this topic is still being promoted / discussed here after the other thread was locked
  8. Lets just hope that this gets off the ground at some point. I'm still considering moving away from unRAID, although its a great product, but my requirements have outgrown it. If this doesn't happen in the next few months, I'll bite the bullet and move to a linux raid instead. The only thing making me hold on for unRAID is the pain of moving 16TBs of data.
  9. It is pretty safe to assume that the first 64-bit release is going to be standard unRAID in 64-bit flavor. Unfortunately I know you are correct but I am still hopeful this will happen sooner rather than later, as v5, webgui and plugins plus lack of passthrough on my system (I5 2500k) have made me lose interest in unRAID at the moment
  10. Tom gave this update on the webgui thread: "Right, I really apologize for this guys. Here's what I'm aiming for: 1/ Publish 5.0.5 - this has a couple minor fixes 2a/ Publish 5.1-beta1 - this is 5.0.5 with latest 'webGui' integrated. 2b/ Push this 'webGui' onto github as 'webGui-master'. 3/ Publish 6.1-beta1 - this is 64-bit unRaid with numerous updates including 'webGui-master' and virtualization support. Idea is webGui will run on both platforms." Whether item 3 is a current format 64 bit or more hopefully what we are talking about here is not clear.
  11. The system log on startup will tell you there is a Slackware package conflict and my money is on sab and CP being the problem
  12. There's quite a problem with the plugins and GUI at the moment which needs resolving/updating. There is a thread about creating a 64bit version of unRAID on a Linux distro such as centOS which means you can install either VM with an OS and just install the software natively or natively to the unRAID OS, should remove all these conflicts and means you won't have to rely on the plugin authors (although their work is very much appreciated by the community) I gave up with getting owncloud working via the plugins
  13. Have you seen this thread? Seems like a better solution http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=30777.new;topicseen#new
  14. There will be a conflict with one of the non-SF plugins. Easiest way to find out is remove the 4 x plugins from the boot/config/plugins folder, can move them to another folder temporarily, keep the data dirs on the cache drive and reboot Get the webserver running and then installplg one package at a time to see which one it is. Too many conflicts with the Slackware packages now
  15. What plugins have you got installed? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  16. I think the point has already been made that if someone wants to rip off unRAID, with or without tom and profit from it then it isn't a difficult process for some talented people on here, but that isn't what is being discussed. If people are willing to donate long hours to assisting what is a stand alone business or helping a community then there can't be an issue with that I have read this thread from the first post and the thread that led to it. Developing the system to 64 bit and a distro delivery doesn't have to mean the end of the way unRAID is now, and while the existing users have to be considered, so do the users that want more out of the product. UnRAID was a fantastic product when I discovered it two years ago but I have realised I can make far more use of it with the equipment I have and I would like that process simplified as is being discussed. If half the topics being discussed here come to reality then unRAID will be a phenomenal piece of software. If not and it continues the way it is, then it will get left behind.
  17. Just to throw in the view of an average user (me) I have been using unRAID for 2 years, but over the last 6 months i have realised its not running at its full potential and with the issues over plugins conflicts and the state of the GUI, having to run a VM on top of unRAID for various other bits of software. I am not competent or knowledgeable with Linux, hence why I haven't cast a vote in the poll. So long as there is a manual and a user friendly interface, then I am good with whatever is chosen. There are far more technical people than me that will consider the pros and cons and direct this project. So I would not take the 30+ people that have voted as the target audience, there will be a lot of people watching this thread with interest. I won't pretend to understand all that is being discussed here, but I do understand the benefits of this idea to a user like me. Keeping the system up to date, more flexibility on additional software, not having to change plg codes to correct the many different versions of slackware or risk breaking the other plgs, and greater speed are a few. Even if it comes as another unRAID licence tier, i would be happy to get a more flexible system that can be used in anyway i want to and more efficiently.
  18. If it wasn't my only unRAID device and my wife and daughter relied on it then I would happily tinker with Linux, maybe with the lights on and hiding behind the sofa. I am watching the 64 bit unRAID distro thread as an alternative I am using 6x MB Sata ports and 2x PCIe cards so would prefer not to have to buy anymore cards and keep the drives on the MB.
  19. Seconded for the roku as an easy, capable and cheap device. Assuming your upload speed where your PMS is located is sufficient and the same for your download speed at the offsite location then you will be good to go
  20. Thanks for the links and information. I would prefer to have the ability to spin down the drives and get the temps but I am more comfortable with windows and virtual box. I will do a bit more research first, still concerned about losing data from the drives but am sure it will go OK Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
  21. BobPheonix Have you previously moved an existing unRAID installation to a VM? Will the data on the drives persist? I am more comfortable with windows and oracle VM. When you say about passthrough of the PCIe cards does that mean those drives attached would not show up on unRAID under a VM on windows? If you have time at some point could you list some steps?
  22. From what I've read so far it's easier to have the drives on controllers rather than on the MB so you can passthrough the controller But I haven't got to that stage yet
  23. I am looking to convert my existing unraid setup from a standalone machine to a W7 VM. I understand that raw access can be done to give each physical disk a presence in the VM. Has anyone moved an existing installation to a VM, got any tips or pitfalls to be wary of?
  24. Thank you so much. Problem resolved! Ive tried and tried, and still get the error while loading the shared libraries libssl.so anything else could it be, it is still the current file listed on slackware and checksum is correct. you could try manually downloading libmcrypt-2.5.8-i486-1.txz and placing it into /boot/packages on your flash drive, the plg should then recognise that it is there and move to the next package. http://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slackware/slackware-14.0/slackware/l/libmcrypt-2.5.8-i486-1.txz copy and paste that link (shown in your txt log file) and save to packages on your flash drive, then installplg again and see if it moves past.
  25. I purchased 4x of these drives some time ago and all failed using unraid (different batches), I believe the newer 3TB are more reliable. I would skip the greens and go straight for the reds
