  1. Lion and bobkart, thank you. I combined both of your methodologies while using shares and eliminating the "resierfs" part and it worked. I got much better copy speeds than I expected. I used Midnight Commander (type: mc) and it was pretty straightforward. I will modify my response to include the commands I typed for clarity. I am also thinking about seeing if I can(or it makes sense) to combine Synchthing in here and not use Midnight Commander (I don't know that even makes sense). I'm so happy guys!
  2. It's not too later. I personally have a few terrabytes to go yet. Can you provide directions on how to do this? Did you use something like MC (Midnight Commander) to do the copy? Thank You
  3. HAVOC, thanks for responding to me. That didn't work. I think I must be missing something fundamental about Docker and adding plugins. I used the pre-packaged Plex and BTsynch and remain unable to access my unRAID server's media from within those program. I'll go back and re-read the forums and see if I missed any basic guidelines. Thank You. HAVOC... everyone... this was the root of my issues. I didn't understand the best way to use the "Container Volume" and the "Host Path" within a Dockerized app. This link explains it well: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35531.msg330955#msg330955 This link is also helpful: http://seandion.info/unraid/unraid-dockers/ it has a recommendation about the Docker image size which apparently another thing that can cause people issues. Thanks all
  4. Well bummer.... I also made one and should have looked here first. hahah http://seandion.info/unraid/unraid-dockers/ I wrote it a while ago, but should have linked to it. Its not titled as a how too create a docker. I modified my post above, but here it is also. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35531.msg330955#msg330955 Hello, Smdion If you add some clarification and an example of the "Container Volume" and "Host Path" I think your document would perfect. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate that you also provided definitions. Thank You.

I modified my post above, but here it is also. http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=35531.msg330955#msg330955 Dmtalon, this was EXACTLY what I needed! It was that "container volume" and "Host path" business that was causing me issues. I found clarification in another forum here (I'll point there too when I can find it again), but your Document would have ended the pain immediately. You are going to help a lot of people.. especially those of us who are not developer minded. Thanks.
  6. I can't wait for this new guide. I wish I saw this two days ago. Thank you. I am having issues with setting up Plexmediaserver and Btysync. I'll retry creating those containers when my server is free again. Hopefully I just made a minor mistake. I suspect I am putting the wrong thing in the "Container Volume." I tried just putting /config as I'm not sure what else I am supposed to put. Whatever I do, once I get a Dockerized App running and call upon it's webgui I am unable to direct it the shares where my data resides. I have no rights. I'm unRAID 6.12 FYI.

  8. HAVOC, I hate to ask a stupid question but what did you run in Putty? I now how to initiate Putty and log into a server? I was able to install Plexmedia server from the default Docker apps in Unraid 6. Once I had plex up and running I found I could not expand my media folders to point it to. I don't know if this is part of that "newperms" business or I have a lot of issues going. lol. This my first day using Docker.
  9. I don't know if this is out of scope. But maybe there should be an addition on how one might transfer from an unRAID server to another. I'm going from an unadventurous unRAID implementation (Media server/ Data backup) to trying to test EVERYTHING I've been reading in the blog. Pathetically copying from one server to the other without using my Windows 7 as an intermediary has been consuming my time. I am going to try to some directions a fellow unRAID user was kind enough to post...but an addtion to this blog might be quite helpful for us low to mid (barely) level skillsets. Thanks (as always)
  10. I didn't know there was even an attemp to come up with a GUI. I wish I knew how to create one. I get clobbered by all of these commands. Right now I am trying to copy between servers with the command. If there is a place to vote for this I will. I think people (especially new to mid level unRAID folk) would really be glad to have it.
  11. This is a great question. I am frustrated by this even when copying files under 2gbs. Here's a question. Can I copy data from one server to another without using rsync? I plan to copy to a different directory structure. I am also copying from 5x to 6x. Can I essentially use midnight commander to copy from one server to another? Does that even make sense? I imagine doing something involving a Windows workstation as an intermediary would just slow things down. Please realize I know just enough to be dangerous but am not a super Linux literate. Thank You
  12. Good to hear. I ordered one yesterday to replace a drive that Unraid put a red dot on and disabled. I JUST got the drive this Morning! I'll try my first hard drive replacement this evening! A bit nervous...but I guess I'll see this all in action. SH
  13. It is up to 34.99. Must have been one of their rapid one day deals. I'll look for it next time.
  14. Compusa is seling this for $125.00. Your find is quite a savings (with tabs). The only thing I don't see is if it has the connection necessary to tell our RAID server's to shut down gracefully if power is lost. But again... the price looks quite good... even with tax.
  15. Hello, Please understand that I am Linux illiterate. I am figuring it is okay to run this command from the server console? I've never used Telnet with the uNRaid. Also, how do I identify what "sdb" is? It's just a bit greek to me. Thanks.
  16. I ended up buying two drives to max out my onboard Sata connections (I have the recommended Budget Built). I am just waiting for my Hotswap Bay and I'll be good to go. FYI: If you are going to buy the 2nd recommended HotSwap Bay (the one that fits without any modding) you may want to order it a couple of weeks before you even intending on getting your hard drives. Their basic shipping easily takes two weeks. Thanks for the feedback people. Fingers crossed that I am not one of the people who gets the DOA drives. SH
  17. Hilarious. I love it. The idea of NAS equipment looking like other things appeals to me. I see no requirement for an unRaid server to look like a... well...server.
  18. Raj, I think I am going to use the Warm Spare idea you documented here. I was originally thinking of using one of the two drives coming to me as a Cache drive. But I don't really think I'll need it as such after I move the bulk of my data to the unRaid. I see how this would put less "wear and tear" on the drive than leaving as a Hot Cache drive. Thanks, is it part of the array? is it outside the array waiting to replace a drive? if outside the array, have you precleared the drive? I can answer these since I built guiri's server Guiri is using a 2 TB (WD EARS Green w/ jumper) as a warm spare. It is assigned to the 'cache disk' slot in unRAID, but the cache disk is disabled on every user share and the mover is basically disabled as well (see this thread). I figure I'll have guiri employ your 'feb-31st' trick at some point, but it isn't important at the moment. The drive is precleared, as is every other drive in his server (only 1 pass, though - each pass on the 2 TB EARS takes about 35 hours so I didn't have time to do more than that). I chose to assign this warm spare to the cache disk slot so that it wouldn't show up in the drop down menu when guiri adds new disks to his array. That way he never has to worry about matching up serial numbers or anything like that (as long as he adds just one new drive at a time). If he ever needs to employ the warm spare to replace a failed drive, he just has to unassign it from the cache slot and assign it to the failed drive's slot. The extra step is trivial, but I feel the benefit is worthwhile.
  19. I have been reading some frustrated reviews about this drive on New Egg. Not the overwhelming majority by any means but enough that I would ask if anyone else has had problems with them? I am thinking it might be nice to go up to 5 drives (including the parity drive). I would have 4 WD 2Tb green drives (with the annoying jumper requirement) and one Samsung. HmmmN? Or maybe go to 6 (the maximum supported on my motherboard without a card). Loving the price and no rebate!
  20. I've been credited for my purchases. I'm a happy camper. But I really need to just buy that replacement Hostswap you suggested. I think I am allergic to using a screwdriver to install and remove drives. Thanks.
  21. Great idea, Raj. I'm glad to see this 4th drive issue as I am already looking to upgrade and thus buy an actual licensed version. Saves me some frustration.
  22. Hi Raj, The latest version of Ubuntu does not work as far as accessing the resier partition (maybe it is me). I used Parted Magic http://partedmagic.com/ and can access the Reiser partition. I can't figure out how to make a network mapping. I have to play with a it a lot more. It's the closest to what I am looking for and may be a respectable choice for those of us who want a graphical option. Check it out. It's a quick download. Cheers
  23. Thanks, Joe L. Informative as always and it works as advertised. But I think I wasn't clear that my lazy >bleep< was trying to avoid involving my desktop in the transfer process and I was trying to avoid using Linux console commands. Ideally I want a bootable CD with graphical interface friendly to Windows users. So far the Ultimate Boot CD for windows and SystemRescue CD can't see the Sata Reiser drives. I've checked the Bios to make sure that is not part of the problem. I am going to try a recent Bartpe configuration from a friend. If that does not work I guess I will have to learn some Linux console prompt commands or telenet stuf. Storagehound.
  24. You guys have been great. My system is up and running. From your posts and and searching the forum I have been able to get my TVIX to communicate with the UnRaid server. I've also moved a lot of data over. I didn't see the speeds that I expected but from my searches they are practical speeds on a Gigabit LAN. I've installed UnMenu which has really gotten me rolling. As far as moving my data... I had an idea that I am going to try. I am going to create an Ubuntu bootable CD.... boot with it... and see if it will give me access to the UnRaid Server's drives as well as any USB Hard Drives I attach to it. This may be an excellent way to get around all of those other options to copy data onto the server. I will also get an updated BartPE or UltimateBootCD and do the same. There is a SystemRescueCD that might do the trick. At least one of these CDs should also allow me access to my network storage. I am betting Ubuntu will be the easiest for those of us who are not really looking to learn Unix command line functionality. I will also be rereating the manuals (official/unofficial) as far s Split Levels. I had my video folder set to Higher Water, Level 1 and it has loaded my first data drive to a little over 70%. I had expected it might start putting files on my 2nd drive. But I bet I have the ration wrong. Interestiingly enough, after having done most of my video copying I created a folder called "audio" and "backup." I didn't put any data on them but they were created on the 2nd drive. Learning learning learning. Thanks for all the help guys.
  25. It's funny you wrote this. I added a new drive with the cage that came with the case and I already can tell I will be buying hot swap bays. lol FYI, system is up and running and I am just reviewing some errors....that don't stop me from accessing the Unraid.
