The video out from my new build using a thrice recycled BIOSTAR TA785GE 128M just failed while on the first Preclear of my 4 4TB STCA4000100 DMs. Does IPMI allow access the local terminal (using ALT+F1-F6 to open up to 6 terminals) when needed (i.e. for a preclear), then shut down the Win7 computer hosting the IPMI while the processes finish? 4. Mrow – I am a little leery of that ASRock – only because I do not see many using it on the forums. What about going with one of Tom’s AVS-10/4 spec’d machines? Will this be powerful enough to run parity checks on massive media collections IPMI - I really do not understand this one.

  7. Moved Progression to http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5133.360 reply #368 Sigh... the video out from my 2011 BIOSTAR TA785GE 128M just died while running the first preclear cycle on my 4 new 4TB drives - at least the first round came out looking good on the drives (I believe). Original post on this thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=27380 Given that this board has been rma's 3 times in the past (all for video issues), and that it is now way out of warranty, I really do NOT want another budget board. I am now seeking a low power, reliable, cool running board + CPU + ram. I would rather have a high quality motherboard with a less expensive (dual thread or better) cpu for now as I can upgrade the cpu down the line if needed. Budget can be flexible, though I would LIKE to stay below $400. It should have onboard NIC, a minimum of 5 SATA, and at least 1 pci-e for the SASLP. It should also have an onboard GPU out (HDMI/DVI/VGA in that order preference). As of now, the machine will be left on 24x7 for XBMC (dvd iso, bluray iso, high-bit rate music, pictures, xbmc mysql) use - with up to 3 outgoing Raspbmc outs and 1 Win7 Encoding machine In. I am not concerned about virtualization. Recommendations are quickly sought! The only recycled component is my SASLP - and I would rather use onboard SATA to minimize power consumption and heat. 8. fyi - my recycled motherboards video out died.
  9. Kizer - I am noticing the same issue with the same version - but only on the local console. After the reboot of my windows machine, the local console's GUI is not coming up. myMenu under unMenu still works though.
  10. WeeboTech - that is a very nice unit! Using this I could swap my R4 for a LianLi PC-V354, keep 8 3.5" drive spaces, Add 5 2.5" spaces and knock off a LOT of the vertical space used. Then again... the R4 is a very silent case... Ohhh... or I could add 4 HD (2 3.5 and 2 2.5) to the 8 bays I already have
  11. Thanks Joe. And thanks for all the Quick responses these last couple of days
  12. My new home server will be primarily to host our media 1200+ DVD iso 300+ Blu-ray iso Thousands of songs Home Pictures (all the media is physically owned by me and in storage) The DVD iso's range from 4-8 GB The Bluray iso's can be up to 30 GB Is 2 GB of ram and no Cache drive sufficient to transfer from my encoding machine to the Tower? Thank you
  13. theone has just made 2+ happy forumites thanks!
  14. SATA is set to AHCI. I did not realize part of the AHCI standard includes Hot Swap. Thanks! I LOVE the bay with the Power Button. This is most ideal. Ordered!
  15. Thank you both! I understand that unRaid does not support a hot swap drive for use in an array - if the disk can be recognized for PreClear use only, I am a happy camper. Once the machine is up and running (2 more PreClears to go) I will test it by plugging a disk directly into an internal motherboard header (BIOSTAR TA785GE) and psu sata connector (SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold). If this does not work, I will attempt to connect it to my AOC-SASLP-MV8/firmware .21 If either option works, I will go with the Rosewill HotSwap bay. I do not believe my MOBO (TA785GE 128M) contains an eSata port
  16. Does 5.0 Support HotSwap drives for disks to be PreCleared? I would LOVE to PreClear 4TB (or larger) drives for my Home Machine & Work Machine without the need to powerdown the home server. I would LOVE to wipe old Work drives prior to sending off for recycling (right now we physically destroy the drives first :'( ) If so, is it as simple as plugging a Sata drive directly into the motherboard/sas controller - or - do we need a hotswap bay? If we need a hotswap bay would you recommend something other than Rosewill's RX-C525 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817997016 I would go with an ICY DOCK MB876SK-B single bay, but I do NOT want to listen to a fan http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198036 Note: Right now my Fractal Design Define R4 is SILENT with 2 140mm intake and 1 140mm exhaust (Noctua fans all) fans. The 4TB drives have not gotten warmer than 35* in my closet.
  17. First – Thank you JoeL for the lovely PreClear Script. Good day Forumites. In setting up my new UnRaid server I am using 4 new 4TB drives. Two nights ago I launched PreClear via the local Console/Terminal – opening up a preclear for each drive using ALT+F1-F4. Now, when I turn on the monitor (an HDTV via HDMI fed from a DVI port) the screen recognizes an input signal, but only a black screen is shown. Touching the keyboard does not cause the screen to display any data. On the night that I launched the 4 preclears, 'waking up' the screen worked a few times. If I turn on my windows 7 machine and open up unMenu and select myMain I am able to see under the Notes section an update on the PreClear Progress for each disk – this contains limited information in a yellow box that updates with any webpage refresh (F5) (ie. Pre-Read x%, Post-Read x%, # of reads, # of writes, Temperature, Read/Write rate, etc) I had planned on reviewing the results AND saving all 12 of them via grep preclear /var/log/syslog | todos >> /boot/prc_sda_r1.txt grep preclear /var/log/syslog | todos >> /boot/prc_sdb_r1.txt … grep preclear /var/log/syslog | todos >> /boot/prc_sdd_r3.txt Given that the preclear still seams to be working, but that the local console screen is no longer‘waking up,’ how can I go about 1 – reviewing the results for each disk prior to launching the 2nd preclear 2 – saving the results for each disk’s preclear As an aside – preclearing 4TB drives takes a LONG LONG time but is worth it for the peace of mind in knowing that the drive will not likely cause issues anytime soon. Thank you all! edit - I am using unRAID Server 5.0-rc12a with the PreClear and unMenu as of 05/31/2013
  18. Good day Crew, I am in the process of setting up a new server using mostly recycled equipment - and 4 TB drives. I have upgraded my spare AOC-SASLP-MV8 to the latest Firmware_3.1.0.21. I do not have Firmware_3.1.0.15n and after spending over 8 hours searching, I have been unable to find "mdu.exe" which is the Marvell Dos Setup Utility from any source. Can anyone provide that as this boot time takes a VERY LONG TIME with 4TB drives attached. I can provide a secure upload link to my work's website if you like. Thank you all in advance! Chris
  19. I certainly will fyi - It will be a week or two
  20. Great Idea Gary. I will do just that. Again, my many thanks.
  21. Thanks Gary, 1 quick question left then - if the BIOSTAR TA785GE does not support 4TB drives, do you know if the AOC-SASLP-MV8 via driver updates is OK now for this use? http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=20228.0 http://www.avsforum.com/t/1324649/3tb-drives-and-supermicro-aoc-saslp-mv8 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=19108.0 If not - do you know of the preferred inexpensive method to get this support (I must really be using poor keywords in google for this search) Thanks again!
  22. Good day formites, The switch from my HTPC to Raspbmc has left me with a pile of hardware. After pulling the old HTPC apart and running across an Amazon sale of 4 4TB drives on Mar 5th - Now I have enough items to build an always on UnRaid machine to replace my power hungry video encoding/storage desktop (I own over 1200 dvds and dozens of TV series on DVD. Currently using the Raspbmc is not wife friendly due to the time consuming nature of booting up the encoding machine. Question 1 – Does anyone forsee issues that I may have using some of the following hardware? Question 2 – Would it be better to use the brand new PSU, or the one from 2009? Question 3 – with 4 onboard SATA ports, should I just skip using the AOC-SASLP-MV8 until I need to add more drives? Question 4 – should I even use the 30 GB SSD for anything? Question 5 - do I need an independent intel NIC or should the onboard NIC suffice? 23. BIOSTAR TA785GE ingston 2 GB (1 stick, 3 slots still available) AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz 45 Watt Good day crew. Our machine recently began to lock up randomly (no video, no telnet). When we go to restart the machine and the video only randomly comes up (we have tried multiple monitors) - no bios, welcome, or boot display of any type. The board has 2 LEDs on it. When these come on (immediately) the machine boots up OK. When they do not, no video is displayed. We ran memtest86+ with no problems. We needed to run '--rebuild-tree' on a disk. After "pass 1 ( will try to insert 328097 leaves:)... looks like a hardware problem (perhaps memory). We ran this a second time and the mark_block_used number was different. Does this sound like a MOBO problem to you? Has anyone else had similar issues? I need advice as this is our production machine! Thank you all! Chris
